Poor Jenny...here car broke down and I had to come pick her up. Her car is in the shop and she'll have to miss work tomorrow. At least she's home safe and sound.

Good thing you did making sure she was safe and sound. I know she appreciates it. Well done Dan. thumbs up

Wow, that is a most impressive looking high school, Lee! Was this a Jr-Sr high school or just high school...grades nine through twelve? I have nothing but wonderful memories of my high school experience, as well. I attended the same high school both my parents graduated from. The Jr-Sr high school became a jointure in 1956 and has been going strong since that year. Wyalusing Area Jr-Sr High School is comprised of four outlying area elementary schools....Wyalusing, Camptown (Yep, the song, Camptown Races is about this small town), New Albany and Laceyville. Most graduating classes are between 100-120 and my alma mater has also been a powerhouse in sports, for being such a small school. I played softball and lettered ninth through twelfth grades. In 1998/1999 our high school wrestling team was ranked, nationally and I think it always surprises people not familiar with our area, that such strong academic and sports teams can actually come from such a very small/rural area.

What I loved about my graduating class was, we didn't have any of these cliques that you so often see, these days. Academically strong students were friends with the less academically inclined and the jocks didn't have any problem hanging around with fellow students that may not have been sports nuts. Every year, the senior class goes on the 'Senior Trip' and that's mainly funded by magazine sales, dinners, etc that the senior class works at to raise the money. My senior year, we went to Williamsburg/Virginia Beach Virginia and I have such wonderful memories of that trip. In spite of many of my fellow classmates being cousins, I also had many friendships that remain strong, to this day. My parents weren't kidding when they told me, once you graduate, the years fly by!

We're getting hammered here in PA, too. They had originally estimated 10-16 inches of snow and then they said we could get as much as 16-22 inches. Last time I measured, we had over 7 inches and it's snowing very hard and has been for about an hour, so we could have more, now.

My Aunt lives in Michigan, not too far from Detroit and she said they were expecting about 4-6 inches, but I haven't received an E-mail from her, today, to see if they received more.

Glad to hear Jenny is safe and sound, hope everyone can stay off the roads. They let school out early, yesterday and cancelled school, today. They have said we could have winds in excess of 40 MPH and near-blizzard-like conditions, so could get interesting a little later.

...now I tend to huddle up inside and do various things to keep from going bored.

Let me see if I can guess some of the things you do inside the house on a "snow" day off from school:

1. feed your crayfish
2. play video games
3. help your mom out around the house with chores
4. play with your dog a bit
5. clean your room

I am right or wrong? ... tongue-1

For the most part, I've got to clean out my crayfish today, it's such a hassle now that's he's in the larger tank.

My dog's been inside for awhile, he sleeps outside in our heated garage so he's living in luxury.

Indeed. Does he have a special "bed" to sleep on, Corey, or does he just sleep on the floor? eyebrow

It was designated a "high school", for grades nine through twelve.

My only regret was that I was too busy to cultivate any real friendships among my classmates. Sports I participated in: track, which I was average at, and tennis, which I was very good at(I made the state playoffs two years in a row). Other HS activities: I was "Club" section editor of the Yearbook staff(my junior/senior year), I was an active member of the Latin Club, the Beta Club(students with a GPA of 3.4 or higher), the Science Club, and I was also very active in the Army ROTC detachment: my sophomore year I was a cadet corporal, my junior year a cadet staff sergeant and my senior year I was Battalion Executive Officer(XO), a cadet Major, and in charge of the ROTC records/personnel office, which underwent it's own grueling inspection annually.

We put the old carpets of he house for him to walk around on and he's got a big puffy dog bed, but he insists on eating the carpet and sleeping on the ground.

That's just my dog for you, I'll try to get pictures of him soon.

You'd be surprised the things he's eaten in the past Lee, jumper cables, boat tarpes, a hole in the wall after my dad finished plastering (I'm not sure if that's the word I'm looking for...) and not many things get him sick. He did however, once get his paws into the woods and was able to eat a poisonous mushroom which got him sick, but a week at the vet and he was all better.

He's gotten better recently and the last thing he ate was my bike's petal which was a long time ago.

Indeed he does Lee, he'll eat just about anything, but he's a LOT better now, he likes to stay inside our house and he hasn't gone after anything he wasn't supposed to eat in awhile.

Despite his size, he's incredibly gentle. (Aside from him stepping on your foot, and of course, he doesn't notice that he's standing on it) but he doesn't mind our other pets besides our one cat who's mean to him to the point of him being afraid of her.

I know some humans who are afraid of cats. I think it's because of their shy and mysterious nature. It's hard to get a grasp on a cat's behavior unless you actually own one or around them.

Anyway, we're gonna get another inch of snow today! I'm frankly sick of winter. Luckily the temperature will be rising to the upper 30's later this week. When that does happen it'll be like a heat wave.

I know some humans who are afraid of cats.
And while I'm not I can understand why some people might be. About two months ago, while on a property planting trees and shrubs, I was approached by a neighbor's cat, a long-haired, gray-colored cat that looked and acted normal. I knelt down to pet it and it hissed and began acting as if it were going to charge me. freak out I was startled as I have never encountered a house cat that has acted like this. I was relieved when the animal finally moved away, not so much out of fear from being harmed by it, but because I did not want to injure it in the course of defending myself in the event it had made a run at me. shifty eyes

I suppose with my school being so small and being related to or having gone to school with most of my classmates from Kindergarten on up, friendships were already established by the time we did get into high school. I can honestly say, I had a great time all through seventh through twelfth grade. There were definitely some rough times, my parents divorced when I was in seventh grade and Mom remariied later that year and at the time, her husband was a seriously active alcoholic. He tended to be abusive and I lived with my great-Aunt/great-Uncle and cousin from 15-21....my great-Aunt/great-Uncle were in their late 50s/early 60s at the time and my cousin was in my grade and she and I got along, great. My Aunt/Uncle had raised their kids in the 50s and 60s, so it was kind of like living in the Donna Reed Show. Always a home-cooked meal when we got home from school and since my cousin was trhe baby, she was very spoiled, so not a lot of chores to do, whcih was very different than how I had been raised to that point.

I spent a lot of time with friends on the weekends and attneded a ton of school activites.....sporting events, school plays and dances. As mentioned, I letted all four years I played softball and that was my only sport to play. I think I concentrated on that, as it was something I was very good at....not to brag, but just because I think it came naturally to me. I played little league baseball from age 9 or 10, at a time when girls weren't really playing baseball. I graduated to teener softball at age 13 and played that through 15 and played high school from 15 through graduation. I was a big supporter of the high school football team and wrestling team and while I never particiapted in the high school plays, I did enjoy going to watch them.

I have to say, I made so many great friends in high school, but I feel just as close to the people I worked with, when I was still able to work. We'd spend 11+ hours a day together and at least 6 days a week, usually 7, so I spent more time with my co-workers than family and I;d say, my department at work, which was very small, became like my family, too.

Now that I;m no longer able to work, I really miss seeing my friends at work. Life has continued to move along for them, while my life seems to have almost stopped, 9 years ago. Depression is something I battle every day and while there are some people that say to me, 'Boy, you're so lucky to not have to work every day!', they really don't understand that dealing with my health and pain and feeling quite isolated isn't all it's cracked up to be! faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

When Mom was pregnant for me, near the end of her pregnancy, she was put on complete bed-rest. Because Dad worked during the day, he got her a kitten, to keep her company. 'Simba' was babied and spoiled rotten in those months leading up to my birth and after I was born and brought home, the cat decided he didn't like having to share attnetion, so Mom and Dad were a little fearful he might attack me. They approached my Dad's Mom about taking the cat, to which Grandma readily agreed. Granddad was kept out of the decision, as he didn't like cats. Dad said the day they brought Simba to the house, Granddad was sitting in the dent watching TV, less than pleased about the cat being there, when Simba, suddenly darted up the back of Grandda's chair and began ripping on Grandda's hair! freak out Granddad just sat there, staring straight ahead and hating the world. :<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> I guess Granddad finally accepted Simba and Simba fit in, but he ruled the house and made Grandma and Granddad's dog, Tavvy's life, hell, from tiem to time.

Heiney Butt seems to fall somewhere in the middle. He's a grumpy old man, when most people come to visit, but is a big baby, when he's here with just me. He loves to be held on his back, as you would a baby and he loves to have me pick him up and he looks over my shoulder as I wander around the apartment, so he can view his domain.

My youngest brother and his wife have a cat that hisses at everyone! Skeet has been known to send the cat flying, when he suddenly comes out of hiding and is about to attack! Now, that kind of cat scares the hell out of me! freak out

I wouldn't judge these people too harshly, Kimi: I think if they did understand your pain and feeling of isolation that comes from not being to work they would not say things like that to you. The problematic part about it, obviously, is getting people to understand these things and situations, which obviously is easier said than done. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

As I have said many times, Planet X has been one of the few places where I could talk freely with others, without being ridiculed, disrespected or trifled with, by others with nothing better to do than what I just mentioned. And like I posted at PX in my final post, I will not allow kaiju fandom to be monopolized by sites where this behavior I hate so much runs rampant, and it absolutely runs rampant. Believe it. I hope those at Planet X will also consider this site for communicating, much as has been done at PX. I'd like to think my standards of conduct here are the same as they were there. Take care Dan. :)

No, I don't judge them, to many of them, I'm sure, life can't be bad if you're not able to work and get paid for it. Truth be told, at one time, I might have thought that was a neat set-up, but I think the novelty wears off, once you live it. I know they don't mean any harm by what they say, i think part of me feels very guilty, because I can't work, any more. <_<

Thanks, Lee, my family and friends remind me that this wasn't a choice and that helps, but I think I often struggle with guilt for things I really don't have a whole lot of control over. Not sure why, but I catch myself at times and then question myself!
