What in the world would make a cat's temperament and general disposition change like that?

I'm not sure, he sure is a fisty thing! freak out I'm actually frightened of him, now. The good thing is, he's never attacked the new baby. I don't think his life would be worth living, if he made a mistake like that! freak out

Friday night/Saturday morning around 12:20AM, the phone rang in the bedroom and it was my youngest brother, Skeet calling. Asking if I could possibly come up to his place and take him to the ER, as he wasn't able to catch his breath. He didn't want his wife and baby to take him, as it was so late and cold and he wasn't able to reach my Dad, so I was his next choice. Now, Carol uses my Tracker to get back and forth to work and she had to be to work Saturday morning at 4:45AM. I knew there wasn't a chance I'd be home in time to let her go to work, so I called my Grandmother, who lives down the street, to see if Carol dropped me off, if I could use her car. Of course, Grandma said I could and so by the time Carol and I got dressed, got to GB's to get her car and I took off, I was almost 1:50AM before I arrived at Skeet's. He does live almost an hour away, too.

By the time I got him to the ER, which is only about a 5-minute drive from his place, he was really gasping for air. We got into the ER and we were the only ones in the place. They whisked him through the paperwork and we went back to go over the paperwork with a nurse. After a few minutes with the nurse, he asked Skeet if he thought he could walk to the exam room and Skeet assured him he could. He stood up, walked about 5 feet and was doubled over, coughing and nearly passing out. freak out He popped him into a wheelchair and we proceeded onto the exam room. Once in there, they did an EKG, blood gas check, popped in an IV and did more bloodwork. His EKG was good, his blood gasses were OK and his lungs sounded OK, but they did give him a breathing treatment and added some meds to his IV to help him breathe easier and relax, before taking him for chest X-rays. It was amazing how the breathing treatment and IV meds relaxed him and he began breathing a little better. In the end, he was diagnosed with bronchitis and given a strong antibiotic and put on steroids for a week.

We got back to his house just after 4:30AM and we were both whipped. As mentioned in an earlier post, Skeet snores louder than anyone I know and he wanted me to sleep for a bit, before heading back home with GB's car. I think I slept for 15 minutes, before his snoring woke me! :D I know part of the reason his snoring was so loud was because his breathing was 100%, but thankfully, he's doing a little better and resting at home. They did say, because he wasn't able to breathe evry well, he'd actually started to hyperventilate, too. freak out

I'm glad your brother is okay. thumbs up

Some questions, based on your retelling of your brother's harrowing experience: is this the first time he has had an episode like this, i.e. difficulty breathing? Also, is he a smoker? If he is, would this have anything to do with it? I don't know too much about bronchitis, obviously. confused

Thanks, Lee. :)

Skeet has never smoked a day in his life, but he was born with asthma and we nearly lossed him on several occasions, when he was a baby and toddler, becuase of that problem. By the time he was 12 or so, he simply seemed to outgrow asthma and never suffered any attacks after that age. eh? Mom, said, she, herself, suffered asthma and outgrew it, until Skeet was born and it triggered her into suffering several attacks for years. Mom said Skeet must have inherited her weak lungs. I suffered with bronchitis and pneumonia a lot, but thankfully, never suffered the horrors of asthma.....that's some scary stuff! freak out

More spam from the mind of Packmule:

-drivers here in Atlanta are unpredictable, which is never good. I rode around to a few sites today with my boss to review the work to be done while he's away this Thursday and Friday. On the way back to our shop my boss ended up hollering angrily at another driver who failed to use his turn signal and nearly caused us to wreck in the boss's pickup truck. freak out

-I just mailed off my federal tax return. My refund: $334. I have no dependents. My best friend, who now lives in Dover, Delaware, just mailed off his return. His refund: $1068. He has one dependent, an 8 year old daughter(he's a single dad). shocked smiley

-I have been hearing strange noises overhead in my basement apartment, like the pitter patter of small feet, e.g. a small animal. The handyman came to visit my landlord's house yesterday, to probe around all the recesses in this house(including the attic). His opinion: there is a raccoon loose in the house. His solution: poison, which he placed in the attic where he believes this critter accesses the house. eh?

-a friend of mine who is close friends with a former Home Depot executive has enhanced my online resume and sent it, through his friend, to the store managers of the two Home Depot stores I am interested in working at. Stay tuned. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

I talked with my close friend in Delaware the other night, a single dad with an 8 year old daughter. She is a pretty girl who will, no doubt, be quite lovely as she enters her teen years, drawing the attention of plenty of young lads. Her father, my good friend, is already dreading how he will handle his daughter as she becomes a teenager.

Skeet went to a follow up visit with his own Dr, yesterday and he wants him to remain out of work until a week from this coming Monday. Skeet and my Dad attend the high school wrestling state finals ever year, they have done this yearly, since Skeet wrestled in high school and my Dad has been doing it since I was just a child. Anyway, they take off next Wednesday for Hershey and the Dr told Skeet, he can return to work the following Monday, so that's how serious he feels the situation is.

I can nag, just as well as my Mom and her Mom, so Skeet doesn't stand a chance. ;) Mr Green

Ramblings from KF which have no real importance or probably interest, but I love to ramble, so here it is.....

-I receive my monthly Social Security check on Friday, this month and in addition to the normal, dreaded bills that must be paid, the Tracker needs a new alternator, which is going to cost about $160. thumbs down Thankfully, a friend of Carol's will put it in for us and the cost.....a case of beer.

-They're calling for another winter storm for Thursday afternoon/evening, which sounds to be mainly an ice and then rain event. While snow isn't a thrill to drive in, driving on ice is damn near impossible and a real nightmare. thumbs down

-When this new computer was purchased, Windows Vista is the operating system. The all-in-one printer/scanner/copier needs to have a new driver downlaoded from the Lexmark site. I've attempted this three times, now and without any luck, so the printer/scanner is useless. thumbs down

-I'm surrouned by hundreds of DVDs and can I find just one I feel like settling in and watching, today....nope! eh?

Good luck with the resume, Lee, hope you hear something positive, soon. Mr Green

It's funny, there are often two sets of rules, when it comes to a daughter and when it comes to a son. Now, my parents are actually pretty cool people, they had rules and didn't like them to be broken, but they did give us plenty of rope, in which to hang ourselves, should we so desire. I see poor little Olivia having very little slack, in her rope, as she grows. tongue-1

Suggestion on the case of beer: if your mechanic's taste in beer is generalized, like mine, you can usually get a case of Busch for a good price at a package store. Busch=in Packmule's opinion the best tasting "discount" beer on the market. If this mechanic's taste in beer is limited, go with Michelob-it'll cost more but it is a popular beer among all but the pickiest of beer drinkers. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

I'm assuming you have the CD software for this all-in-one printer/scanner/copier downloaded in your computer...? Have you contacted the manufacturer of this printer/scanner/copier? If not you might try contacting them. They may be able to help. Also, do a "Google" search for the kind of driver update you're trying to install. Look at the results and see if anyone else had this problem.

Thanks Kimi. So do I.

I had a hard day today, that left me tired and a little depressed. I always fall back on certain music to lift my spirits. Currently listening to Al Jarreau and Jeffrey Osborne. Listening to these two great vocalists always cheers me up. What do you listen to Kimi to feel a little happier? eyebrow

And while I can sympathize with this young lady I will absolutely never find fault with any father who goes out of his way to look out for his daughter...and her virginity. Now I hope this guy is not restrictive with her too extreme, because you know that social interaction among young people is important in their maturing into adults. Hopefully he'll find a balance on how he handles his daughter's potential male friends...and suitors.

I kind of wonder if this won't be something Skeet needs to kind of keep an eye on. Meaning, if he suddenly feels like he's coming down with a chest cold or something like that, he should get himself to his Dr, ASAP, to avoid another hammering like this.

You know, I want to say that's Billy's choice......Busch! He's done work for us in the past and he's a very nice guy. What impresses me is how very neat and clean his garage is. This is a home garage, nothing professional, as he does this on the side....neatness and non-cluttered areas always impress me. :)

Yes, I have the installation CD and that went through without a hitch. When it didn't seem to make all aspects a go, I went to the Lexmark website and it stated that the driver wasn't compatable with Windows Vista, but sometime in February, an updated driver would be available for download at the Lexmark website. I attempted the download again, yesterday and after almost 90 minutes, it once again was unsuccessful, so I decided to simply install the Canon printer that was included with this computer. That's working fine, but it leaves me without a scanner for the time being. thumbs down

Sorry to hear, yesterday was a rough one, hope today improves for you. I love my Beatles 'Blue' and 'Red' CDs so much, that I will often pop them in, if I'm having a bad day. I also like to listen to many of the tunes of, Enya, I think the woman has an amazing voice. Sometimes, if I'm feeling angry and really depressed, I'll pop in something like Rob Zombie and crank up the volume and pop my headphones on for a bit.....I've actually fallen asleep with loud tunes thumping in my brain! shock

The best thing your brother can do, Kimi, besides following his doctor's instructions to the letter, is ask questions, like what I speculated about. He needs to be, obviously, as informed about this problem as possible. A chest cld can, as far as I know, affect your lungs-it sure feels that way whenever I have one, so your brother may want to ask the doctor about this.

"Lay Down Stay Down"-Deep Purple
"Black Dog"-Led Zeppelin
"Frankenstein"-Edgar Winter
"Twilight Zone-Golden Earring
"Dr. Feelgood"-Motley Crue

That actually might be a good idea. You might consider calling him on the night of this event, or even being over at his residence, as you and your brother's wife could provide some womanly influence in this situation, and perhaps assuage some of his fears about his daughter as she goes out on her first date. thumbs up

I think this last illness did freak him out just enough that he is askign questions of his Dr and is taking this a bit more serious than he has his illnesses in the past. Must be he was too young to recall all the serious asthma attacks he had as a baby and young child, but I think this may have scared him into being a bit more cautious about trying to simply doctor himself. freak out

Skeet's not the easiest person to calm down, once he's all worked up, but I almost wonder, if he won't make sure the young man knows how he should behave and after Olivia and the date leave, if Skeet won't be reduced to tears? I swear, if you could have seen him the day Olivia was born, I was choked up just watching him. Suggestion: listen to music by British keyboardist(mostly synths and other sounds) Paul Hardcastle. His music is often knocked because it mostly programmed, but I like it. You might also like the easy sounds of Hiroshima, a group of Japanese-Americans-their sound is a blend of traditional Japanese percussion/strings and modern pop. I like it. They have been releasing albums since about 1983. "Hiroshima" CDs I have: Another Place(1985), Go(1987), East(1989), and Providence(1992).

Who knows? It's certainly possible. Us rough and tough guys are capable of tears, and not just when standing over onions on the kitchen counter top. tongue-1

I admit I have seldom cried in my lifetime: I cried at my mother's funeral, in 1983, and wept a little at my father's funeral, in 1999, and at my paternal aunt's funeral in 1988. I have been told by my counselor that men generally hold their sad emotions in-I would agree with that, generally speaking. Why? I don't know. My parents', in particular, my father, never told me that crying was unmanly, or the like. I don't believe it is, and never have. I have felt obligated, during many times when I felt sadness, to maintain my composure. Not sure exactly why here either, though I think my counselor may be right when he says men generally like to feel that they have control of themselves and their surrounding environments, and that crying, for any reason, however justified, is a loss of that control. I believe that explanation could apply to me.

I also admit I got a little choked up as I watched the ending of the film Saving Private Ryan-I think mostly because I am a veteran, and I respect what the men and women of our armed forces, and all other countries as well, sacrificed, during WWII.

I believe your brother will be alright, Kimi. That said I believe he will always need your input and influence, along with his wife's, regarding his daughter, and just about everything else. We men need this from the women in our lives, wives, girlfriends, or relatives, whether we want to admit it or not. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

No doubt, Skeet come by this, naturally. My Dad is not the kind of person to head to the Dr or take OTC meds at all. Now, Mom has had some serious health issues over the past several years and so I think she's a little more afraid, as she was never one to complain about aches/pains or illness, but I swear, if she gets a hangnail, now, she's on the phone with her Dr. I'm afraid Mom's minor heart attack about 5 years ago, has scarred her for life. freak out Not that I blame her a bit, but I worry she has cut back on doing many exciting things because of her health. Granted, I haven't....thank goodness, had a heart attack or stroke, but my health issues are considered life-threatening at times and I HATE going to the Dr and rarely go, myself. Only when absolutely necessary. crazy
