Anyone is welcome to join our community! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

It's funny, both of my younger brothers are the type that aren't ashamed to cry. I've seen them cry at funerals, weddings, births and other upsetting/joyus times. They don't shed tears very often, but when they do, I am reduced to tears right along side of them! I've never seen my Dad cry, but then Dad is the oldest of his siblings and he seems to take on that role as being the strong one, the one everyone else can come to and the like. My brothers and I are very demonstrative of our feelings, with each other and others and it doesn't embarrass us to say we love each other and hug/kiss. I enjoy being hugged or kissed and hearing someone say they love me or saying something positive to me, I'm a big mush, at times! :<!--emo&lol:--> |

Yes, thank goodness. I think it's a good idea for you to continue going to the doctor with someone. I'm curious Kimi: with your health issues are there things you can still do, per your doctor, to help yourself regarding your overall health? |

thumbs up My taste in music runs the gamut. I listen to music mostly based on my mood. I like 60's psychedelic rock, 70's rock, some 70's disco(mostly Donna Summer), 80's pop, 80's metal, and just about all 60's/70's "Motown"-The Jackson Five, Gladys Knight And The Supremes, etc. -I also like to listen to country also. Favorite country artists: Confederate Railroad, George Strait, and Juice Newton. I also like Martina McBride and Jo Dee Messina. As for vocalists go, some favorites: Male: Jon Secada, Jeffrey Osborne, Al Jarreau, George Benson, John Legend, Michael McDonald Female: Donna Summer(one of my all-time favorites), Whitney Houston, Lisa Fischer, Chaka Kahn, Mariah Carey Image: Packmule's all-time favorite female vocalist, Donna Summer, who still looks great after all these years!

While I am not totally averse to public displays of affection I have always tried to refrain from "PDAs" with a female companion in public, as I consider this a matter of privacy, between me and that person. Believe me, Kimi, in private, with Gloria, my current girlfriend, I can be affectionate to the point of being an animal . My take on PDA's has never been shared by any woman I have ever dated, and I'm sure it has soured women on me many times. Gloria has asked me to compromise a little, which I have done: I now hold hands with her in public, and occasionally a "smooch". I believe she is satisfied with this. I hope so, because, save for a quick hug here and there, it's all she'll ever get from me in a public setting, where affection is concerned. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

Yes, there are things....with my diabetes, naturally, eating well, keeping an eye on my sugar levels, maintaining a healthy weight and keeping regular check-ups is a good idea. For my Lupus, it's a little more scattered as to what I can do. I should avoid being in the sun for extended periods of time, letting myself nap, when I feel the need to, taking anti-inflammatory meds...which we haven't found one that I haven't had a slight case of a reaction to. Restrictive Lung Disease--Avoiding dust, extremes in cold or heat etc and keeping an eye on any kind of cold or lung infection, just so it doesn't get out of hand. Rheumatoid Arthritis--As mentioned above, we haven't discovered any meds that relieve my pain or that I don't have a slight reaction to. My kidneys and eyes are beginning to show signs of trouble and that scares the hell right out of me. The daily pain is a real nuisance as are the headaches which have been a daily and all-day occurence since '99. Some aspects, I simply have to deal with and live with, but other aspects, which I can have control of, I need to really do what I can. As my Dr said several years ago, any of these illnesses could be dealt with and you could live a normal life with, but put them all together and it's a slightly different story. |

I think it's great when anyone has a wide variety of tastes in music, books, films or TV...makes life more interesting! :) Mom and Dad had some great albums, when I was a kid, Beatles, Sonny and Cher, 50s compilations, 60s complilation, etc. I think that helped with my taste in music. Mom was raised with lots of country music as well as polkas and she still loves stuff like that. Dad also liked classical music, so there was a lot of that in the house, too. Some of my personal non-metal favorite vocalists might be: Male: Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Elton John.....while I may not be a huge fan of all their stuff, I do think they have great voices. Female: Rosemary Clooney, Allsion Krauss, Natalie Cole....same as with the male singers, may not love all their efforts, but great voices. Groups: ABBA, The Lettermen, Oasis, The Beatles, Bond, Glenn Miller Orchestra, ELO, The Beach Boys, etc....if I'm not listening to something screaming and loud, I will listen to these folks. I think your willingness to compromise must be appreciated, some folks can't compromise at all. Now, I think some PDA are taken a bit too far by some people and I often look at them as trying to 'shock' people, no real sense of love or affection is shown, in my eyes. I always want to scream, 'Hey, you think you invented that?!, People were doing that long before you were even born and I might add, doing a better job of it, too!'.

Wondering how everyone is feeling about the time change coming three weeks early, this year and turning them back being pushed back by one week? I'm not a fan of turning the clocks ahead to begin with, but pushing that up by three weeks. I believe now we'll be turning the clocks back a week later and I don't like that, as one neat thing is, it's always dark early for Halloween and now it won't be. thumbs down I suppose I understand the reasons for doing it, but it may wreak havoc on our electronics, especially for the systems that set automatically, we'll have to do it ourselves, then change it, when they do it automatically, so four time changes isn't going to be fun. |

Well, all I can say after reading your last reply is that, God willing, and with you helping yourself as much as you can, you'll be able to live as close to a normal life as possible. If I were in your position I would fight it all the way, which I know is what you're doing. It's a fight well worth the time and effort, because, obviously, it's your life that's the subject of your efforts. :) Kimi, I looked over this FAQ about lupus. I'd like you to look at it. Does it describe accurately what you are going through? I also read in this article that 80-90% of people with lupus can, with medicine, live somewhat normal lives, and that the disease itself is not usually fatal, except in extreme cases. I'm very glad that we'll be given more days of light. I hate how it gets so dark early in the Fall/Winter. When I get off of work it's dark and I don't want to do anything but go home and sleep. Lately, it's been getting lighter and lighter later and later and I'm loving it. |

My response to couples who aggressively "make out" in public: "Get a motel room". It's good advice, Kimi. I know, because I've taken my own advice here a few times...with Gloria.

Of the list of symptoms listed, here, the only symptoms I don't have are; persistent fever, anemia, blood clotting problems or siezures. I'm grateful that I don't currently have these symptoms and hope I can keep them at bay. When I had my last series of blood work done, my Lupus numbers were very high and so far, I've never gone into what they consider remission with the disease. I think what makes my case slightly different is I have it in combination with diabetes and it seems most drugs that could be prescribed to help for both illnesses, do very little for me. Dad said he's very resistent to medications and it would seem I have the same issue. Great site, Lee, I've bookmarked it, as I haven't seen this one, before and I can send this along to family and friends that often have more questions than I can answer. Oh, I am in no hurry to give in to this illness or my other health issues. To be perfectly blunt, the thought of death terrifies me and I still feel there is far too much in life that I want to do and see. I know my family worries, as I seem to have fewer good days than bad days, anymore, but when my day is really bad, I know I just need to get as much rest as possible and the next day can only get a wee bit better. :) |

March 10/11, Lee.
I think the majority of people feel the exact way you do, Ro-Dan. :) I think I should have been born a slug or something.....I like the dark. Mr Green Actually, I don't mind Spring, it's the heat and humidity of Summer that bothers me and with Spring just around the corner, Summer isn't far off and there have been years where it's almost seemed as if we've jumped directly from Winter into Summer and I hate that. :( |

I've been doing a lot of laying about, lately and napping, too. I just need to give in, sometimes and I won't. I can't believe this, Mom went to see her heart specialist, yesterday and on Tuesday, she has to have another hearth cath! I think this must be at least 4 or 5 since her original heart attack! :( They checked both carotid arteries, yesterday, too and they have remain unchanged in a year...no further blocking, so that's good news, but this heart cath has Mom worried and me, too. |
