Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

In my english class for our final we have to do a group project on any subject we want so my group chose 3D media. My question is to you what are your thoughts on it? Do you see it as just a fad or is 3D finally going to be something that sticks around?

More movies are coming out in 3D every month it seems. Plus TV makers are starting to make 3D ready TV using the type of glasses that you'd get from going to see a RealD 3D film. There's also a good portion of 3D PC monitors now, in fact Nvidia the top GPU maker is pushing 3D with there 3D vision add on. They even offer 3D discover which basically converts things into the classic style 3D (the red and blue lenses) entitled 3D Discover.

My thoughts on it I've only seen one movie in 3D (Avatar) and it was pretty decent but nothing to write home about. I've attempted to get Nvidia's 3D Discover to work on a few PC games but so far the only thing that it worked on is just the test pattern they have. Also in the video game arena both MS and Sony are scheduled to add 3D support to their systems (MS rumored to next week), the cool thing about Sony is when they do add it all existing PS3 titles will support it.

I won't lie I am intrigued by it and am highly considering getting a 3D PC monitor next year and also thinking about getting a 3D TV for when I need a new TV.

So what are your thoughts on it?

I cast my vote for the the third option in the poll. I absolutely do NOT believe 3-D is a gimmick but I'm also not completely sold on it being worth additional $ investment either. winky

Well things didn't go according to plan so right now we're going to wait to start a business up.

So I need to think of something to do to make extra money until I do get my business off the ground. I'm hoping at my current job I get moved up front because then that'll mean I'll be bring home like $400 paychecks yeah it's not a lot but right now I'm only getting $100 ($50 weekly since I get paid bi-weekly) so yeah that 400% increase would be very beneficial to me.

Well, I just finished a 67 hour work week about an hour ago:

58 hours at my day job(Mon-Sat)
7 hours on a side job(yard cleanup and 15 3 gal azaleas installed in the front of a house
2 hours mowing turf, pruning and blowing off my landlord's property

Probably going to be a 60 hour work week this week. loco2

One of the reasons why I don't believe the 3-D LCD TVs may sell well at first is the cost. I understand they're even more expensive than standard LCD flat panel TVs.

Packmule, I seem to recall you once saying you were capable at tracking people down via the web, or something to that effect. To that end, I have something of a challenge for you: what's my real name? And for pity's sake, don't post it if you find out! Just PMing me will do fine.

Another post to help keep it alive.

Nah not really they're about on par with other LCD LED TVs their size. Plus most stores throw in a starter kit too or do a bundle where you get the 3D, the 3D Ready BD Player and a couple pairs of 3D glasses for around $2500 or so. I expect prices to drop drasticlly by the end of the year because like all new tech it still gets pretty expensive when it's first out and steadly drops. This time next year you should be able to pick up a package for about $1500 or so.

I also cast my vote for the third choice. I think that 3D is pretty cool, but it isn't something that needs to become standard. 2D needs to stay the standard.

I think it's kinda cool, but I'm not going to shell out big bucks for it. I'm content with waiting around a year or two until things get more reasonable. I've been doing a good job lately of avoiding being an early adopter on anything, primarily because I just don't have the extra cash to throw around.
