Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Apathy works out, I don't. So I'll go for the latter, but thanks for the suggestion!

Of all these pieces of broken dreams
There's one that scares and confuses me
If all these things that you say are true,
You should be someone I always knew!

I have adopted the theory that there are plenty of directors and writers out their with imagination and originality, but the problem is that Hollywood is too afraid of losing money to use them and risk bombing.

Hence all of the really neat ideas end up getting shoved into low-budget indie films and the majority of the population never sees it.

What about Inception? That was pretty unique.

Chris Nolan was the director. I really doubt that any studio would hesitate to grant him whatever project he wants, especially with his enormous success on the Bat films.

Well yeah, this is how the entertainment industry as a whole works - not just the film industry. Remember, at the end of the day it's about creating, packaging and marketing a product and therefore making sales with said project. The art of creating something unique is dying, although still relatively present - the reality is something simple and entertaining will sell better than something that goes on a limb and tries something innovative and mold-breaking, so it's not worth taking the risk when there's less of an opportunity for financial success.

It sucks, but that's how the entertainment/art business works nonetheless. There are of course exceptions, but they're few and far between.

I don't think it matters much, though - it's still quite possible to make a good quality film independently or with a smaller company. The issue is more so getting it out to the people who will appreciate it, which means we - as the people who will appreciate it - simply need to make more of an effort looking for said films, because they are out there.

Face it, people who want unique and ground-breaking are the minority. Movies are nothing more but an entertaining way to kill time to most people, so more often than not simplicity pays.

That's my two cents on it, anyway.

What about novels? The only medium where the writer has unlimited freedom to make their vision come to fruition?

Interesting point, though novels aren't as dominated by sales and majority rules as other art forms. Arguably, neither is art itself - it really just seems to extend out towards movies and music more than anything.

So I guess I broadened things far more than they really are in my description, since it doesn't apply to every or even most art-forms - but some of the most widespread ones for sure.

I think you'll find Pinkie Pie is quite an experienced and diverse musician, capable of playing most - if not all - instruments! coolbeans

Picture related. Unfortunately, they are not pink though sadlyicon
