Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Totally random searches? Or do you have "tendencies" like I do(i.e. people and films) eyebrow

Which internet browser do you use? Discuss your answer. Consider this the official "internet browser" thread for this site. Post any other comments, questions, complaints about web browsers right here. Thread starter-I use both IE6 and Mozilla Firefox. I like the page scrolling effect of IE6 better, but I like the speed of the page loads I get with Firefox better(they're faster). All replies welcome. :)

I used Yahoo as my browser for ages and then they seemed to have a ton of issues and many pages I'd bookmarked weren't working, so I switched to Google about a month ago.....I very much like some aspects of their browser, but not all. I may check out, Mozilla, because I like change and if I can save all my bookmarks and have easy access to them, I'm always willing to try a new browser.

FYI. Mozilla Firefox :)

Note: if you download and install Mozilla as your web browser, you may want to consider Mozilla Thunderbird to handle your incoming e-mails and such. It is Mozilla's version of "Outlook Express"-since I have never used "Outlook Express" I simply downloaded the Firefox browser and not the "Thunderbird" mail handler add-on. Again, FYI.

Thats my two cents...

The template for the entire browser just bothers me, and when picture are loading theres that weird symbol thing that is in its place berfore it loads.

I know it may seem weird but that bothers me, so I just stick with IE, I already have a spy sweeper and pop up blocker, so its not like i would ever need those features on Firefox even though they support them.

I had to go to the oral surgeon almost two weeks ago and my mouth is still very painful. dead I'm supposed to go back to my dentist for some follow up work, but she told me to give it a week or so until my mouth heals. I can't believe how sore I still am, but perhaps being daibetic is to blame for my slow healing process. On the upside, my youngest brother and his wife are expecting and they may induce labor late next week or the following week....this is their first baby, but it will be my seventh niece or nephew. I had to have a couple of extractions done. I've always had 'soft' teeth, but since being diagnosed with Lupus, diabetes and other health issues, my teeth have really gotten soft. I actually broke one of my teeth off biting into a slice of bread!

I am sorry that you have to endure such things. I have some health issues I have to deal with on occasion: mild acid reflux, gout(due to chronically high uric-acid levels in my blood-despite dietary changes and 20 lb weight loss(to date) I still get painful attacks in my feet or toes, and I have to take OTC stuff like ibuprofren and naproxen. I guess the only thing we can do is soldier on... :)

Thanks, I hate that my health problems have made it impossible for me to work, any more and that some days the health problems make living life to the best, almost impossible, but as you said, about all we can do is make the best of a bad situation and refuse to give up!

My sympathy to you, as well.....pain in the feet and toes is not pleasant and while I don't suffer from acid reflux, I know plenty of folks that do and that's not pleasant at all!

I notice on my IE6 browser that some images and emoticons of websites do not display correctly, yet I never have this problem with Firefox. What does this mean Ghost?

In my case, emoticons and images(like sigs or imageshack-hosted pics) sometimes do not appear at all while using my IE6 browser(at all the sites I visit). I have absolutely no problem with emoticons/images displaying correctly at any site using Mozilla Firefox. question

Phobias, we all have them to some degree. Talk about yours. Elaborate on them as much as you like. Thread starter-mine: I have a general fear of heights. On top of someone's roof cleaning gutters I can probably manage, although I still get somewhat nervous. Any higher and that's it-time for me to get my feet back on the ground. Things I cannot do because of this fear: scale a tall extension ladder, ride tall(or really for that matter) any amusement park rides, peer over a rail and look up/down from a tall height(e.g. inside a tall office building). Even standing on a steep hill that is 25' or taller makes me nervous. freak out

Im not really scared of anything, I know I am, but nothing that is a phobia for me.

Weird thing is, I don't mind heights at all.

If I do think of something i have a phobia of, 'll update this post...it is only 6:42 a.m. right now...brain isn't working to its fullest...

One of my biggest phobias is of spiders. freak out I have been terrified of those since I was a wee lass. My older cousin used to have a very large plastic tarantula and she'd chase me all over with it. My only satisfaction is somehow, she managed in her older years to become as terrified. I become physically ill and I swear, I can walk into a large room and spot a spider no larger than a small button, clear across the room. I can't step on them or swat them with anything, for fear they'll run up a leg or an arm. I use Raid or some other bug killing spray and as my Dad laughs, I don't simply spray them.....I drown them in the stuff. It's horrible to be this frightened of anything. Last year, my Dad, youngest brother and his wife and my roommate and I went to Canada for a week of fishing. My youngest brother and his wife were in one boat and my roomie and I in another. I was using the motor to get us close to the dock when my roomie told me very calmly not to panic. I immediately knew it was something I would panic about and I slowly turned to see a very large water spider right beside my knee. I completely and totally freaked out. Now, I have arthritis in my hips and knees and that makes for some difficulty in getting in/out of the boat, but let's just say, I was hopping, skipping running and screaming on that small boat like I was a circus act! My poor roomie was yelling at me to sit down and I was nose to nose with her screaming at her to shut up! I damn near tipped the boat over a couple of times and was actually on her lap at one point....until she managed to get me seated on the gas tank and she used an oar to destroy the beastie! dead

I'm not overly fond of anything that creeps and crawls in the bug kingdom, so Summer is not a particular favorite time for me! Bats also creep me out a bit as do heights to a degree and tight places.

Gee, after reading this, I'm somewhat of a mess!

Anyway I remembered a phobia of mine, im scared to talk in front of a group of people.
Its not as bad as it used to be, I really do like to say a speech or perform a play in front of people, its just I can't help but feel nervous.

Not a problem, considering mine rarely does either...regardless of the time tongue-1

Other(smaller) phobias: 1. snakes. Just like "Indiana Jones". I hate snakes. It's funny because the idea of holding a snake makes my skin crawl, however I have held tarantulas(the American kind, 4-6" wide-not the South American or African giant tarantulas, which are all very aggressive) in my hand, as well as other less-than-pretty critters, like a giant hissing cockroach and a "walking stick"(a type of insect).
2. saws-any kind. Chainsaws, jigsaws, bandsaws, for that matter any kind of mechanized cutting instrument with a serrated blade=Packmule has nothing to do with. crazy

It's funny, I was never really frightened of bats until a VERY large bat got into my apartment several years back. I was dozing on the sofa and it suddenly was dive bombing me......I freaked! freak out

OMG! I can't even imagine holding a spider in my hands. They'd probably be planting me six feet under the next day. dead

I don't mind talking in front of a group of people, as long as I know what I'm talking about. When I was still able to work, I was a safety captain for the last several months I worked and was forced to give safety talks and was pleasantly surprisde to see it didn't really bother me. I've had to get up in front of groups and talk about various things in the past and I wasn't too freaked out, which is shocking, since I do tend to be on the shy side.

I don't mind snakes at all, really....we have rattle snakes and copperheads up this way along with the noremal garden variety of non-poisonous snakes...black snakes, garter snakes, etc. Now, if I know it's a rattle snake or a copperhead, I am quite nervous, but I've never come across a rattlesnake on my own and just a couple of copperheads.

It certainly helps. During my senior year in college, and as part of a(required) course I was required to take, Hitler And National Socialism, I was asked by the course professor to lead a discussion based on an extensive research paper I did as part of my final exam. The subject: The Holocaust. There were over 300 people in attendance at the forum-cadets(I went to a military college), day and evening students, members of the college's faculty, and about a dozen surviving members of that awful chapter in our history. I have never had a fear of speaking in front of large groups, but I did that day, my fear being that I would somehow, despite my best preparations, screw up the forum and disrespect those surviving "Holocaust" members in attendance. Fortunately, I did not. The forum was a success, I got an A for the final course grade, and I also got to meet a few of the individual survivors, remarkably well-adjusted and affable folks, considering the horrendous things they had to endure.

Another fear I usually carry around for all to see: fear of failure.

I'd have enjoyed attneding that lecture/speech! Sounds like you put a lot of research and effort in the project and it definitely showed with your final grade. :)

I'm not sure if this is a phobia for me or simply a bad habit....I also hate to fail or let anyone down and as a result, I often question my choices and decisions almost to death. I fret and I worry and probably drive many people crazy, but I simply hate to fail or let others down. :(

Though acquiring an "A" in the course was great, in retrospect, I believe meeting the three survivors(two men and one woman) of the Nazi concentration camps was more benefit to me. The two men were both Polish Jews, relegated to a camp early in WWII. The woman was a Russian Jew who was incarcerated at a camp after the the first few months of the German invasion of Russia. All three survivors still bore the tatooed number on the inside of their forearms. They were all currently SC residents, very friendly, polite, down-to-earth people who, fortunately, went on to have families of their own, succeed in the business world, and were willing to share their stories to related forums at other colleges in the state of South Carolina like USC, Clemson, and Furman(I graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC).

On the subject of not wanting to let other people down, I can only say this: the vast majority of people I have known like this are all genuinely nice and sincere folks, but it seems to wear on them a bit, almost like the way guilt can wear on a person. confused
