See I wouldn't mind commiting to Wal-mart if it where actually full time but it's only part time. I'm going to have a talk with the store manager about this latest incident sometime this week and if they aren't willing to work with me for future availability ie my schooling if it gets to hectic I'm going to cut my hours or I have a trip planned in May to go to Florida with my family I'll be gone for about a week or week and a half then I'm going to tell them they might as well just terminate me. I'm not going to deal with their BS, I have a degree so it shouldn't be that hard for me to find a job that'll put it to good use. |

In a normal economy I agree with you. The thing is, we have a lingering recession and high unemployment and a moron in the Oval office whose actions have only made things worse. I understand and sympathize with your situation. if you can work PT right now that's fine as well. |

True but I'm also not going to be treated like that by any company I live in an area that's pretty damn close to the world's largest chemical company so I should be able to get some sort of business job there. If not then I plan on relocating eventually so maybe this would be good motivation to do so. |

Ive been baffled by the rate of pay you have been describing concerning Wal-Mart, Tom. I know that 7.25 is the federal minimum wage, but even a single person trying to live off a salary like that is ridiculous, and worsened by the fact they won't committ to giving you full time. I've heard that one of the underhanded tactics wal-mart uses is to only give their "full" time employees 37 or 38 hours a week, to avoid a full 40 which means they would have to offer a benefit plan. By employing an FTE less than 40 hours, I have heard wal-mart dodges that obligation and essentially leaves Medicare to deal with the employees, since many of them are living below the poverty line at minimum wage. Any truth to this, Tom? If so, I find it quite detestable. |

That "underhanded" tactic you refer to, Josh is employed by a lot of large companies. I have personally spoken with two(2) PT employees for Lowes who have told me that Lowes tends to hire a lot of part time workers and far less full time workers. Why is that? Take a guess. They don't have to offer as many benefits. ![]() I used to know a Home Depot part time employee(in the late '90s) who told me the same thing about Home Depot. Companies like Home Depot, Lowes as well as other large companies, especially banks, will rationalize their reduced work forces(courtesy of layoffs) by citing the recession and general lousy economy right now. At the same time these companies justify their payroll purges through employee lay offs they pay out larger bonuses and salaries to upper management and corporate execs, citing the need to retain "top level talent". Finally, more hours are saddled on salaried mid and lower level managers to get their hourly workers, now fewer in number, to be more productive. Several landscape companies I have worked for(including Trugreen from 1999-2001) have done things like this. There was a local story on the news here in Atlanta, GA just last week, one of those "undercover" investigation type stories where the reporter obtained Home Depot documents that show this company hired several thousand customer service call center employees...in INDIA. Those jobs, according to these documents, replace the same ones that have been gradually eliminated out of Home Depot's corporate office(here in Atlanta) and at one other location in the southeast. There's a name for this: "outsourcing". In this story the reporter also obtained a video in which a female Home Depot exec admits that HD prefers to use foreign workers for these call center jobs because they work cheaper. I saw the video footage: this female exec came off as being very snooty and arrogant. There's also mention that this exec is paid over $200,000/year in salary not including bonuses. The handwriting is on and has been on the proverbial wall for a long time in the good old U.S.A.: fewer and fewer companies, especially the large "chain" companies and retailers, give a damn about their employees and a lot more about money...and ONLY money. Some leading economists are calling the higher unemployment rate in this country, as well as the higher number number of people underemployed through part time work the "new norm". I see nothing and no one that will change this anytime soon. This is one reason why the divide between the wealthy and the middle(and lower) income class of people in the U.S. is getting wider. |

I don't know about full time workers only getting 37-38 hours I do know that my store has a strict policy of no overtime so if you're getting close to OT then they either send you home early or you have to take a longer lunch. If you work a 6 hour shift you have to take a 1/2 hour lunch 7-8 is usually an hour lunch. I know for the rest of this week I have 9 hour shifts but I have to take an hour lunch so I get paid for 8 hour lunches. As for the whole Wal-mart job ever since I let it be known that I needed a new position because of my bad back I've felt like they're trying to get me to quit, I should not have applied there I knew the negatives getting into the place and chose to ignore them. |

Well I was able to talk to my friend tonight and apprently he's not getting court marshelled they just don't know what's going on because someone messed up paper work at the base he did boot camp at and the base he was supposed to go to when he finished boot camp. They're trying to get things straighted out by the 15th of next month so he can be done for good. |

Typical US military stuff. They raise a big stink over something but when it comes down to the proof, they've lost the paperwork. I saw paperwork mishaps happen numerous times during my tenure with the US Army, many of those mistakes having adverse effects upon the soldiers. The sad thing is that since it is the Federal government, they don't have to answer to anyone and typically don't own up to mistakes.

Yeah my friend REALLY want's this BS to be over and I don't blame him. Work has been pretty decent but I still think I'm going to look for a new job from the sounds of it my suspicions which I didn't say anything about where correct and that's I'll be let go come January. The one manager who actually likes me told me that everyone that's hired between September and now is just a temp worker and that in order to keep your job post seasonal period you have to be better than all the other temp workers there. So just my luck they moved me to a position to where I have to straighten up the shelves of some of the messiest areas of the store. I was told yesterday by a co-worker that there hasn't been anyone in the pets section for over two years and when I first started working there it showed. Plus our fish tanks haven't been cleaned in over two weeks, I feel bad for the gold fish because they have alagae starting to grow in specs on their tanks. So I don't know what to think on one hand they could keep me because they have no one else really to do the job I'm assigned to do or they could let me go because in my shifts I don't have enough time to get the stuff looking up to snuff so to say. Despite all my complaining Wal-mart isn't the worst job I've had but it's ranking up there. |

I have always, throughout my life, relished doing the hardest and most unwanted tasks of previous employers. That's my personality, to take an assignment like this one, meet it head on and turn something bad into something good. Not necessarily for my employer but for my own embellishment, confidence and also because it's something you can list as an achievement on your resume. Just a thought. ![]()

I think so. After all, we don't know how many other fans are currently registered or how many will register in the future, and it would be nice to have one designated thread for pony discussion. This is primarily a Kaiju board, after all. Best not to aggravate the outsiders. My only concern is that it would attract a few internet trolls. Back when Shawn's board was still active we had an incident regarding a member who signed up JUST to post pornographic fan art of the pokemon all over the forum. I banned the ****** and Shawn helped erase all the images, but it was an infuriating sight. If somebody would sign up just to do that, we'd have to be on our toes to keep haters down if we made a pony thread. Indeed, which is why I think separating the discussions of MLP to it's own thread away from Kaiju or horror film discussions works. It's a shame that things like that have happened on other forums but Monsterland hasn't had many issues with trolls, after all only Admins can approve of new members so that helps cut down problems... however, if we do get any posts pornographic or gory imagines like you said then the posts would be deleted quickly as well as the person banned... I'm sure Packmule would agree. Also, the reason that word is censored is because of my incredible hatred towards it... even though I understand since the guy does deserve to be insulted but that doesn't change my feeling toward the word... unless you're just saying f**ker and decided to censor it, I have nothing against that word and you are allowed to use it.

Ah, I figured the forum just had an automated censor function added to it. Something that would look for key words and block them. Hey... imagine the possibilities. As a practical joke, somebody at zetaboards could come along and add a few words of their own to such a program. Enter > "Pony, ponies, Fluttershy, Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, etc" And every fan of the show would be swearing like a sailor for a day or two before he changed it back. Sounds like something Discord would do. |
