For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I often get a fit of giggles, when I or someone else misprounces a word. Mom swears up and down she doesn't recall GB saying words as oddly as she does now, but I think she must have. I see my Mom doing the same thing, these days.

I do the same, Lee. This year, for a little more twist to the holiday, I also watched, Night of the Lepus. Mr Green

Congrats on quitting that habit, Lee. thumbs up I know from seeing family and friends trying to quit, it isn't easy at all and with some of my family and friends, they failed several times before kicking the habit or gave up and continue smoking.

lol

I always considered Night Of The Lepus(1972) a film that was best suited for some overnight horror movie marathon, like AMC's annual Monsterfest. Maybe next Easter, Kimi, you could pair this film with some Bugs Bunny "shorts." tongue-1

The other crew foreman at my place of employment. "Robert", smokes small "cigarillo" style cigars. The brand name is "Black And Milds". Every AM when he exits his car in the shop parking area he's got one lit up, around 7:15 AM. freak out Even when I smoked I never smoked a cigarette that early. Usually I would have my first cigarette mid morning, or a little later. Thank God I quit. I hope Robert quits also: he's a couple of years older than me and has shown no signs of quitting. nonono

Other spam from Packmule: I had something of a bad day at work today. While in the large dumpster(in our landscaping yard) pulling debris away from the edge and towards the middle(so that we can unload more debris from jobs off our truck into it) I yanked on a large, partially buried limb. I was leaning down, and the limb suddenly broke loose and clobbered me across the face and side of head. The damage: a large knot on my left temple and sideburn area, a bloody mouth, and a good part of the tooth enamel on my left front tooth was ripped off. I'm not concerned about the knot and large bruise on my head, or the cut inside my mouth, but looks like the tooth damage is permanent. My dental insurance is of the low end variety, and even with it I cannot afford the early $ estimates I'm getting to have this tooth repaired, the estimates starting at $2000 and up, and that's with insurance. thumbs down

It's funny, since most of my family doesn't smoke, I really smell cigarette smoke a lot more, these days, when someone is smoking. I hate that smell, it clings to your clothes and hair, even when you aren't the smoker. I don't think it ever bothered me, until most of my family gave it up. When I was growing up, both parents smoked and it didn't really bother me, but I don't care for it at all, now. cheeky sick smiley

I once saw a magazine article, with accompanying images, that compared the lungs of a person who had never smoked with those of a pack-a-day smoker for thirty years. The lungs of the non-smoker looked clean and normal. Those of the smoker looked charred, and looked similar to that of a severely burned steak. freak out

I know, I worked for almost 15 years at the same company, I never accepted more than one or two weeks of unemployment checks, when I had more coming to me and I never asked for 'something for nothing'. Then, back in '98/'99, I was no longer able to work, because of my health issues and began the process of Social Security disability benefits. It took over two years for me to be approved and in that time, I wasn't eligible for any assistance from any county or state assistance program. I was forced to empty my checking and savings accounts, which had grown nicely given the hours I worked and that I was saving as much as possible. I was also forced to completely live off my 401k savings and if not for the generosity of family, when after almost two years of living off savings, I was dry, I may have been living in a cardboard box and that's not a lie! My family kept me going and I even lived with a younger brother and his family for several months, because I could no longer afford rent.

Medical care.....I received many smaple medications from my Dr, but Mom and Dad both helped me to purchase all the medical prescriptions I was needing. I didn't have an eye exam for almost 6 years and dental, forget it! Even now, I am covered under Medicare, but that doesn't include eye or dental coverage at all.

I guess sometimes the fact I spent my savings as well as my 401k in an attempt to keep my head above water, I have nothing but my monthly SS check to live off. My one brother's ex-wife has never worked a day in her life, but she receives help for rent, has had vehicles purchased for her through the assistance office, she gets new glasses or contacts every year and also has dental coverage and the ONLY thing she's ever done is give birth. very angry Now, she isn't even raising all her children nor is my brother and yet, she continues to receive help and I worked for 15 years and I'm not able to get help for anything. eh?

About three weeks ago, the apartment complex we live in was sold. There are only four units in the complex and the building had been for sale for a few years. One Sunday, on/around 17 March, our landlord rang the bell and said he had potential buyers that wanted to see our apartment and asked if he could bring them through. Naturally, we agreed and the husband/wife came in to look around. A week or two later, I noticed a strange man on our front steps and Carol went out to ask if he was looking for someone. It was the man who had come through with his wife and he explained he was the new owner!

We never received any communication from our old landlord telling us the place had been sold or even where to forward rent payment to. On 02 April, the new landlord showed up at the door asking if we'd mailed our rent payment, yet. Now, mind you, 01 April was a Sunday! I explained I am on SS disability and I don't receive my check until 03 of each month and that's when we mail payment. I had the check made out and actually in the nevelope, addressed and stamped, ready to mail the following day. The landlord stated that he was strict about receiving rent on the first of the month and said I could post-date my check.

Later that week, the hot water heater went in the next door apartment and had to be replaced. The water heater was leaking into the apartment below, so our next door neighbor as well as the woman living below them and Carol adn I were all talking and we worried because of this and the need for some outdoor repairs, we might see an increase in rent.

Yesterday, I received a letter addressed to just me, not Carol, stating that beginning on 01 July, our rent was increasing by $100. shocking There is absolutely no way we can afford a jump like that in rent. I know the older woman downstairs said if he increased the rent at all, she'd have to move and the husband and wife next door to us said they wouldn't want to stay with any large increase, either. These apartments aren't dumpy at all, they are nice and comfortable, but not that special!

They also said they would have new leases made available before the end of June, so tenants could decide if they wanted to stay or not. Obviously, the search for a new apartment must begin and I hate the thought of packing and moving. :( I just think a $100 per month jump is too much!

It is too much-there is no reason for this asshole to increase your rent except to satisfy his greed: he knows you will either agree to pay it or simply move out, and someone else will move in, paying the rate he wants. He has no "downside" here. Many landlords who do this kind of thing actually decrease their services to the renter(s), in order to profit even more. It's a common landlord tactic. I've seen it many times, both in standard apartment complexes and also those individuals renting out parts of their houses. Until more people, Kimi, refuse to pay these increases, landlords will continue to jack up the rents to pad their own pockets, at a renter's expense. thumbs down

Good luck in finding a new place to live. Are you and Carol going to find another place to share, together? eyebrow

I know moving will be a real chore, Kimi, but I think you and Carol are better off not renting from this asshole. I'll tell you something, greedy people really piss me off. very angry

You know the thing that bothers me almost as much as this ass demanding we pay and additional $100 per month is that many members of my family think the jump is unreasonable, but we should tough it out! very angry

Our next door neighbor said she and her husband will refuse to sign a lease, so that might prove interesting.

Yes, Carol and I will be looking to share, as neight of us on our own feels we can afford a place on our own. That pains me a lot, as when I was working, I always lived on my own.

Unfortunately, living in this small and very rural area, apartments aren't easy to come by, so this guy kind of has us right where he wants us. I can't seem to get it through to my Mom and her husband that we can't 'look' for something after the rent increase goes into affect, because that locks us in for a year.....they keep telling us to take our time and look. This has really depressed me, pissed me off and made me miserable to be around. cheeky sick smiley

Yes, and her just turned 15 year-old daughter is now pregnant, too! shocking This isn't my brother's daughter, but a child from a previous relationship, but the sad thing is, here is a child about to give birth to a baby. And what has her Mom done......turned around and had her daughter sign up for assistance, already! Just a perfect example of a bad example being passed down from generation to generation.

I had a few cousins that found themselves as single parents at one time or another in their life and they NEVER lived off assistance, they always held down a job. My Mom and Dad divorced when I had just turned 13 and my brothers were almost 8 and almost 3 and Mom never took any assistance and Dad only paid $45/week for child support, so Mom wasn't making money off us or Dad.

Hell, I'm willing to not take any assistance for my health issues, but let's get these women and some men off assistance and really help out men and women who may be raising a family on their own, holding down full time jobs and still struggling.

cheeky sick smiley Ack! If that doesn't give some young people thoughts to never start, I don't think anything will.

I have some rather positive news regarding my diabetes. I was on almost the maximum amount of insulin that I could be and still, most of the time my glucose levels wouldn't even register when tested on my home monitor. I'm showing signs of diabetic retinosis (sp?) as well as some kidney problems, so it's been a scary time for the past year or so. I saw my Dr on Tuesday and he has me on two newer insulins....well, new to me, as I;m assuming they may be a bit more costly than the type I have been on for several years.

The one insulin is Lantus and I now take 60 untis of that at bed time and the other is Apidra, which I only take 15 units before each meal. In 48 hours, my glucose levels have dropped about 100 points. Mr Green

One of my best friends, a former co-worker and apartment roommate back between 1996 -1999, now lives in Delaware with his eight year old daughter. The mother of his daughter, his former girlfriend, hauled ass to California when their little girl was about three. She just didn't want the responsibility of raising a child, and left "Connie"(yes, that's his real name) to raise their girl by himself, which he did for a couple of years. The sister of Connie's AWOL, and I might add looney former girlfriend, is a good person of great character, and invited Connie to move to Delaware(where she lives), and move into a guesthouse on her(and her husband's) property. Connie and his daughter moved up there to Dover, DE about two years ago, and live in a nice furnished guesthouse, paying cheap rent, living fairly comfortably(he makes $16.50/hr doing landscape construction work). The sister of Connie's former girlfriend also gets to be close to her niece, Connie's (now) eight year old daughter. Connie has never asked for any handouts, and has often worked two full time jobs to make sure he can provide for his daughter and pay the bills. He also works very hard at being a good father, which he is. Connie is one of the toughest, most determined individuals I have ever known. He is like a brother to me. I love him like one, that's for sure. We talk once a week. thumbs up

I honestly don't know. Carol and I attended my two nephews baseball game, last night and Mom said it, again and I told her, if we wait, we're locked into a year's lease and then no move can be made. This isn't a dumpy apartment and we've enjoyed living here, but some members of my family take to any change, very slow and I think this is freaking them out.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get ugly a wee bit. The positive thing for our neighor is, her new husband already owns one home, in which he has his 85 year-old Mom living and then they are in the process of building a new home, so I suppose they can refuse to sign and it may back the landlord down, but it may not, either.

I have scouts out all over in the form of family, trying to locate a decent apartment at a decent price, but no such luck, yet. I have resigned myself to the fact we may have to sign a one year lease, but I won't be happy about it. I will keep you posted on the apartment search. :)
