Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Since I seem to be having a lot of good luck with the time I am having on my brother's computer (he is asleep right now), let me gripe about something:

I was close to deleting my facebook account today. Truth be told, I did go through the whole process, with the only step left was to wait the two week period (I guess they give you time to change your mind). I did change my mind because 1. I never know when I might start regretting it if I can use it for good somewhere down the line and 2. Due to my affiliation with the Kaiju Galaxy forum, Donny is going to want me on Facebook for support.

Thing is, I started thinking about it and I considered the actual plus and minuses of me owning a facebook. I was hard pressed to think of some. All I could think about was the negatives. Such as the occasional bashing (which hasn't happened in some time, though I wouldn't doubt it that some site hidden from me is having a whole wacko party about such). There was also an unfortunate event in which I stopped using facebook for a while (winter of 2010/2011), only to have one close friend end up doing all of his communication by phone and another friend just pretty much stop talking to me. There was also a time in which I was forwarded to help promote a documentary and the person who helped me get the connection said "tell him I sent you", showing a thing I trust. This was around the same time (winter 2010/2011). A lot of bad things seemed to have happened at that time. In fact, my mother said that I gained a lot of weight during that time (she thinks it is due to some kind of depression from the shock of finding out that she had cancer and that the insurance company dropped him). Not to mention I did one of the most vain things possible: try to "Friend" every kaiju professional of facebook, a la Shusuke Kaneko. I can't even communicate with the guy due to a language barrier.

A mix of bad decisions, happenings, and other stuff really just make me wonder.

Next episode of a rant:

How a 15 year old starts out fresh and naive within a fandom and is crucified from then on within said fandom. Moral of such a story: do not become active in a fandom until you are broken to everything within the world of hurt.

I considered deleting my Facebook account last summer but didn't. Why? The following reasons:

1. I have reconnected with a number of college classmates through Facebook and I've found it to be a convenient, if not fully satisfying means by which to stay in touch with these guys.

2. I can stay in touch with members of this message board, who don't post here very often, through Facebook and also can stay in touch with another close friend of mine, a female who lives in Texas with her husband and two children(one of which is a college student and also has a Facebook account and is a person I stay in touch with)

I would have no problem with stuff in real life. I have gotten use to real life critisism. But, when it comes to the kaiju fandom, I just want peace in our passion for kaiju eiga.

Given the egos and conflicting personalities I've seen among various members of the "fandom" I think it's unrealistic to expect that.

It's one reason why I will never attend a G-Fest. While I absolutely believe I would delight in meeting the various guests(many of them Toho actors) and other important contributors to the fandom like J.D. Lees, August Ragone or even Keith Aiken, I also suspect I would encounter individuals, the same kind of which currently post at Toho Kingdom. For those individuals such an encounter for them, assuming they act towards me as they act towards other TK board members, would be supremely unpleasant. winky

While I plan to attend a G-Fest someday, I understand this statement. However, though I may not be the smartest person in the fan community, I tend to believe that the majority of those people would not have the balls to act that way to anybody. As I've told you before, people that use their knowledge as a "weapon" to prove themselves as a pose to using it to inform and enlighten others disgust me, and aside from the helplessly childish fans that just want attention, that seems to be the majority of that community.

My opinion of the kind of people you and G2Kmaster speak of here is that they are so helplessly self righteous that they feel threatened when someone comes along with comparable knowledge or different opinions, and the best thing you can do is what I attempt to do; put them out of your mind, because no matter what you say, you will be wrong because of your differing opinion.

One instance that stands out to me is a member at TK who came in and basically told everybody that he'd contributed more to the fan community than any of us could ever hope to. He also referred to August as a "prick." I never picked up a vibe from August that he was that kind of person, but then I don't know him that well. But what made me laugh about the whole situation is that the guy never gave his name or what he had accomplished. Maybe I'm just overly negative, but to me that means he's accomplished nothing of note, and he's just trying to promote himself and make himself look better.

It pains me to see nice folks around the boards get chastised for inferior knowledge or differing opinions. There is life outside a message board, but it should be fun to come in and talk to a larger network of fans, not a competition. Maybe I'm not the best person to give advice, but I would say to try to realize that there's always going to be somebody that knows more or has contributed more to this fan community than we have, and the sooner we accept it, the easier it will be to deal with jackasses like that.

That makes me laugh since that guy (The one insulting August) obviously hasn't done anything in the Godzilla/Kaiju fandom, if he did he would have posted proof of what he has accomplished. winky

I've never met August Ragone either but judging by his Facebook posts and in the limited number of posts he's made here I get the impression he's a stand up guy. His contributions to Japanese fantasy TV/cinema are quite impressive. He and Damon Foster owned and operated Markalite magazine back in 1991 so he's been putting in the fandom work for twenty years plus. His book Eiji Tsuburaya-Master Of Monsters is simply outstanding. August Ragone is an expert and an authority on tokusatsu(Japanese action hero) TV/cinema as well as Godzilla and other Japanese kaiju movie monsters. thumbz up

PM sent, packmule.

August posts often at MZ, and while I've never talked directly with him, he does seem like a nice and helpful person. I've seen him act otherwise, but the person it was directed at was being annoying, so I can't fault him for it. It almost isn't even worth mentioning, because after the argument, they "shook hands" so to speak.

Much appreciated, and I know you wouldn't. The only reason I remotely even care about this person finding out is because I don't want to see him sign up at any of the boards I frequent, which is here and MZ.

It's situations like that in which I take a certain pleasure in being a member of a relatively quiet board; the less discussion going on, the less likely people like that are to sign up and start trouble. Their goal is to annoy and get attention; and the best places to do that are busy message boards. But having said that, I am in no way saying I hope nobody else signs up here, so don't get me wrong.

While I understand and appreciate your concern I can guarantee you that ANY member of TK who joins this message board will be fully expected to be courteous and respectful to other members of this online community at all times. To be sure there are a handful of members at TK and another board(Gojira's Sanctuary) that ARE NOT welcome at this board. No need to mention usernames since I have their usernames memorized in my head.

In the five plus years of maintaining this board I have banned only one(1) member, "Black Batrus", for misconduct which violated the board rules. He repeatedly, and despite my requests that he stop, sent harassing PM's to other members asking them to join his start up message board. When I got complaints from these members about Black Batrus' PMs it was time to act. He was asked three times to stop and didn't. He also began calling me and a couple of other admins(G2KMaster & gojiramatthew) names like "idiot" and "dumbass". That attitude clearly demonstrated a disdain and unwillingness on his part to work with me and stop sending other members PM's asking them to join his site. He also posted absolutely gigantic images in posts despite me asking him to post smaller images that didn't cause index pages to "bulge out". This member, in the end, had no regards for any of the rules around here so I deleted his account. This banned member has repeatedly tried to register again at this board using different usernames and I always delete his registration attempts because I know which IP addresses he uses.

^It never ceases to amaze me the lengths some of these guys will go to just to be annoying. I just can't see the pleasure in purposely annoying somebody unless they are in front of me where I can see the reaction. It just doesn't register as "being cool" with me.

Speaking of getting in shape I've restarted my own weight loss regimen. I got down to 205 lbs by the end of 2010 but my weight has crept back up to 225 lbs.

My strategy: an hour of walking per day, at least three days a week, half an hour a day on my "elipitcal" and eliminating my morning Burger King sausage biscuit(me and the contractor I work stop by a Burger King every AM).

The goal is to drop 20 lbs in 90 days. By the end of June I want to be back to 205 lbs. Then I'm going to try to drop 10 more lbs over the next 60 days. By the end of August I'm hoping to be at 195 lbs, which I was at back in 1994.

I was told by my doctor a few years ago that weighing 195 lbs was just fine for a man my age although I'd rather to get to 185 and stay there. 185 lbs is, according to several charts I've looked at online, an ideal weight for a man my age and general build.

So, in summary, I'm gunning for a total weight loss of forty(40) lbs by the latter part of 2012. winky

I didn't loose any weight last week which is fine considering the weight I dropped two weeks ago.

I'm hoping by May to be in the 240 range so I look some what decent for my trip to Florida and by the end of summer I wan to be around 190-200.

I'm changing my workout routine; 30 minutes of weight training and 30 minutes of cardio so about an hour all together. I'm also eating more protein so that I can build muscle mass I REALLY need to get my upper body strength up.

I'd say my two problem areas are my upper body (just need muscle mass there) and my mid section which looks like I have more than one "spare tire"

If you haven't had a decent bit of exercise in about two years and decide you want to start riding a bike to and from school, pray you don't live on the coast, because you'll probably be riding against a fierce wind a lot.

I have been getting, for weeks, error messages when I try to login to Facebook. The error messages say my password is incorrect. I also, after opting for the password reset and getting it via email, have been unable to reset my password because I get another error message stating that the password reset feature is unavailable. Two emails I received from Facebook support has been, frankly piss poor and have done nothing to address this issue. Since Facebook can't resolve this issue, and since I can't login to my Facebook account now because the page says I've "tried too many times" I'm going to wait until I can login to Facebook, then delete my goddamn account. I'm tired of dealing with websites that don't work properly and those who are PAID to make these websites work properly and don't, only trying to put the issue back on the person making he complaint. Facebook support is pathetic.

I had a sinful thought today. The remaking of the Godfather. Who would I pick to be casted in the film.

Here is who I had in mind:

Don Corelone - Javier Bardem
Michael C. - Ryan Gosling
Fredo C. - Christian Bale
Sonny C. - Michael Fassbender
Tom Hagen - Aaron Eckhart
Kate - Emma Stone
Tatalia - Christoph Waltz
Connie - Ellen Page

That's pretty much how far I got.

I'm surprised that you posted this just as I sign into my account. very funny

Anyway, a few days ago I watched both Godzilla Raids Again (1955) and Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) and my opinion on both films haven't changed... which means I still prefer GRA over MvsG for reasons already listed in both of their threads. winky

In order to refresh your memories guys on my ratings for the two films, here they are:

Godzilla Raids Again (1955) - 7.5/10.

Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) - 6.5/10.
