Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

@ NeoWraithVenom: do sasquatches prefer Burger King or McDonalds for fulfilling all their fast food cravings?

@ Shawn: do rhesus monkeys ever opt to use professional grooming services rather than manually picking bugs and fleas off each other's behinds?

I'm only getting the DVD's from Ebay, the figures come from a Japanese store that ships internationally. dancing admin

Just got back from vacation in Pennsylvania, my home state. Happy to be back home, but it was still sad to leave. I still think I'm going to someday move back there.

There's a natural gas plant/facility going up near where we were staying, and I think I'm going to start doing research on the industry; to see if it's a growing and stable industry to get into.

Recently I've been getting interested in the Star Trek franchise, mostly thanks to Linkara, Angry Joe, and other such members at TGWTG, and I've now seen a few episodes of the original series on Netflix.

I guess all the episodes I'd seen before now were from a different series, were Patrick Stewart played the ship's captian. Generations? Maybe? Anyway, the original show has a sort of appeal to it that I found lacking in the episodes I'd seen before. A kind of sincerity, subtlety and wonderment that feels unique... different from any work of fiction I've encountered before.

Hm... maybe its just the 60s vibe, maybe it isn't, but whatever it is, I like it.

Neo: Patrick Stewart was The Next Generation. And I completely agree with you; the original, which I've only seen a handful of episodes of, does have a certain charm to it that the other series didn't give me. I would call it the best out of all the Star Trek series.

As some of you around here may or may not know, I have never met my birth parents and I also don't know if they are still living or not. I also have, among my important personal papers, a small piece of paper with the names of my birth parents typed on it as well as "2 older brothers(one 13 months older than Lee)". I do not know who typed this text on this small of piece of paper. I was told by a member of my first adoptive family(when I was a pre-teen) that I did indeed have two older brothers by birth.

I'm older now and just recently reached fifty years of age. I'm not a sentimental person and I never have been. I have never attended any high school or college reunions and have admittedly never had much interest in them.

For a long time I've tried to convince myself that finding out about my birth parents was not only an exercise in futility but also one that served absolutely no purpose, either for me or those two individuals, living or dead as they may either be.

That said it's a question I think about frequently no matter how much I try to ignore it. Perhaps there's a need of some kind, at some deep psychological level, to know who the people who gave birth to you are.

About ten years ago, in 2002, I contacted an employee with Spotsylvania County. Fredericksburg, Virgina is located in this county and it is this county's courts I would have to work with to get my adoption records unsealed. The official I spoke with cautioned me that I might not like what I find, that is that my birth parents might be dead and that my two brothers might also be dead...or if living might not want to have any contact with me. I told the official I spoke with by phone that I could live with those scenarios and would not be offended were any of these birth relatives of mine deceased or not desiring any contact with me.

I know absolutely nothing about my birth parents other than their names typed on a small piece of paper. I have never seen a picture of either and I have no idea why they gave me up for adoption at the age of one in 1963 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The same can be said of my two purported older brothers. I also don't know if my birth parents and/or brothers ever tried looking for me. The county official I spoke with said that it wasn't likely they had, based on his experience with adoptions.

At the age of one I was adopted by Hansford Lee Ellington and Mary Fitchett Ellington, my name changed to "Lee Fitchett Ellington". I lived with these two people in Fredericksburg, VA until 1968 when we moved to Atlanta, GA-my first adopted father was a roofer and was transferred here by his employer. He died in 1971(I don't know the reason) and my first adopted mother died in early 1973(from enphysema) while I was living with her sister(my adopted aunt) in Avon Park, Florida(she was the hotel manager for a local city hotel). I moved back to Atlanta, GA in the late spring of 1973 after my adopted aunt died(she got pneumonia while having a back operation). I stayed with some friends of the Ellingtons and was adopted a short time later by their neighbors, the "Merritt" family. I would remain a part of this family until 1996 and even changed my name to match theirs out of appreciation for them taking me into their family. John and Ruth Merritt have been dead some time(she died in 1983 of stomach cancer and he died in 1999 of natural causes).

I've seen my fair share of death and family instability in my young years and regained some stability with my last and final family when I was in middle school.

I've lived a low key life style, shunning marriage, having kids and simply being content to attend/graduate from college and become a productive, law abiding member of society. There's not much for me in my remaining years besides working my trade, staying out of trouble, enjoying a hobby(or two) and the companionship of my few close friends. Still, I've found that finding or finding out about my birth parents and alleged two brothers is something I'd like to do in my lifetime.

I'd be interested in the input of the other members around here. Should I dig deeper to find my birth parents? Or do you guys think I should leave well enough alone and that some things are better left undiscovered?

@pack: If they had two other kids, its likely that they felt they couldn't afford a third and very reluctantly gave you up. If they're still alive, I imagine they are curious about you, but either have searched or are to afraid of trying to contact you.

Even if all that's left are your biological siblings, I imagine all parties involved are pretty nervous about the possibility of meeting up. But the only way to know what'll happen is to do it.

If you feel like on your deathbed you'll regret not doing it, then go for it.

Not all: I wouldn't be nervous at all. In my lifetime I have nearly been incinerated in a house fire and had a gun put in my face twice. I don't scare easy and few things in life now I might encounter would make me "nervous".

I think the thing I want to know most about my birth parents is why they gave me up for adoption and what their medical history is. Were both alive and. after meeting me in person, wanting to re-establish relations with me I'd very likely turn them down. I don't have it in my heart to reciprocate those kind of feelings towards people I don't know. Just the way it is now for me. winky

You mean outside of the classroom environment? No idea. Join a club or visit a restaurant/bar frequently, I'd guess.
