MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I have not made it over the 300 lbs. mark. I guess that is good
Considering that your chances of having a heart attack, at any age once you eclipse this weight go up considerably, yes this is good. winky

G2KMaster

Since January of last year I have stayed between 280 and 295. LIke I said the total amount of people who actualy care about me loosing weight has gone to 5, so along with finally finding some more philosophical reasons to loose weight, I have decided to give it a try
Evan, it doesn't matter how many people care about you losing the weight. The only person who absolutely MUST care is you. If you don't care then the entire issue of you losing the lbs is moot.

G2KMaster

For the past 5 days, I have spent at least an hour and a half exercising by doing something rather simple - walking long distances
A good start. Keep doing it! Document what you're doing and write down the length and/or time duration of your walks. Set a realistic weight loss goal for yourself and stick to it. Example: one goal could be losing ten lbs by the end of September. After that set a goal of dropping five lbs per month...which is just over a pound a week. You cannot tell me that dropping a pound a week is unattainable.

G2KMaster

Lo and behold I get home today, sore, hot, and everything else you can think of, particularly since I did some abdominal exercises before doing my walk, and my brother basically says that eating only one meal a day is making any and all effort of my loosing weight mute
With respect to Zach your bro is not a professional trainer, nutritionist or physical therapist. I'm not saying that eating one meal a day is right or wrong. I am saying that exercising MORE and eating a little less, but more importantly eating BETTER will absolutely result in you losing the lbs. Will this process be easy? No, it won't be and I can understand if you get discouraged early on not seeing a discernible change in your weight. The thing is you have to stick to it.

From what I have read eating a good breakfast is always beneficial so I wouldn't skip that particular meal. By "good" breakfast I mean cereal that isn't loaded with sugar, two pieces of toast(lightly buttered), a serving of scrambled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal and two bananas or some low fat waffles/pancakes. My advice: eat a good breakfast, then have a light lunch(a salad or a sandwich of some kind like tuna/chicken salad) and then a light dinner. Avoid fried foods and junk food. Pizza, ice cream, potato chips and certain take out foods(like Chinese) that are fried and loaded with calories must be avoided or at the very least minimized. For snacks try pickles(dill or sweet), raw veggies like carrots or celery or even fruits like grapes, figs, bananas, apples or oranges. I also like banana chips as a snack. Dried raisins and dried cherries are also a tasty snack.

More exercise + better diet & a reduced food intake = the potential to lose 20-30 lbs in six months or less.

G2KMaster

Eh, if it is all for nothing, then I might as well not even try
The thing is, it isn't for "nothing". It's for your health and, I think, self esteem.

You'd better believe that weight discrimination is alive and well in the American work force. For better or worse and right or wrong, you go to a job interview as an overweight person and there's a real chance that the person interviewing you may not hire you because of your weight. This is especially true with jobs where some physical exertion is required.

It's up to you, Evan: if you don't give a damn about your own health then you'll likely do nothing and if your weight continues to increase past 300 lbs there's a good chance you may not see 50 years of age and if you do your quality of life won't be nearly as good as it could be. If you do care you'll do something about it.
I can give you all the advice I know but if you don't do anything about it it won't matter.

"josh TX"(Josh) is a former U.S. Army soldier and I'm sure is well familiar with exercise and keeping in good physical shape. "Trentonfella"(Trent) is an IRS criminal investigation agent who also works out and stays in tip top physical shape. Between myself and these two guys I'm sure we can give you all the advice you need to shed some lbs and keep them off...but YOU have to put in the work young man. winky

I do not mind putting the work in. I just do not want to do anything that will defeat the purpose of me doing this. I should not that we do not buy breakfast foods or many healthy foods due to them often times being more expensive than the healthier foods. What I plan to do is start eating my suppers (the only meal I really eat) and save it for breakfast the next morning.

I think a diet is one of the most important things of a weight loss program. If you eat regularly, it'll give you energy and boost your metabolism, and you'll burn it off quicker than you retain it. I think that's how it works, anyway. As a matter of fact, I've heard that it helps if you eat several small meals a day to keep the process going. I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard.

Okay then, the only person who can stop you is...yourself. If you take up a regular walking regimen and eat a huge pizza every night or chow down at McDonalds then of course you'd be defeating the purpose of walking. The thing is, you have the power to make this change with yourself.

Evan, our world and society in general is filled with both things and people we have absolutely no control over. Part of being successful in life, both as a man and as a self reliant, productive member of society, is recognizing the importance of concentrating your efforts on those things you CAN control in life...and one's health and self improvement is one of the most significant things we can control. Understanding this is one thing but you must also act on it as well and incorporate this way of thinking into your life. winky

Hey Evan, Lee has given some good advice. I have found agreement with everything he has said. Diet and exercise are both important. Just to give you an example, I weighed more when I worked as a manager of Dunkin' Donuts back in 1993 (155 lbs) than I do now (136 lbs). Quitting that job was one of the best decisions I made. I know what you are thinking.....155 lbs....really.....but I only weighed around 130 lbs when first applied. Eating a dozen donuts 5 nights a week for 8 months was really taking a toll......and I was active at the time (and still am for that matter). Had I continued, I would have been in trouble right now.

I had a friend that never could stay on a regular exercise regimen. He would get on for a little while and then stay off for years at a time. He ate a lot of fried foods and worked at Comcast as a customer service agent sitting down all the time. After his mother's funeral (back in 2004), we lost contact and I became concerned. Earlier this month I was looking in the obituaries hoping against all hope that he wasn't there. I was shocked and saddened to find that he was buried.......dead at the age of 37 and had left 2 kids without a father.

Don't let this happen to you. YOU are in control of YOUR own destiny with regard to this matter. Take the reigns and steer your life from this path. The only thing stopping you from success is a negative mindset......but with a good diet and regular exercise, you WILL succeed. Your diet doesn't have to be absolutely perfect and, if you have a moment of weakness and eat the wrong thing once, don't beat yourself up over it. Remain resolute and vow to decrease the mistakes and incrementally increase the exercise. Don't try to walk 10 miles on the first day. Ease yourself into it and stick with it. Having a walking partner is a good idea if possible for encouragement purposes but know that we are behind you 100% here. I look forward to hearing good reports. Keep us posted. Mr. Green

So, a friend of mine hit 100 days of watching anime. (If you calculated the time he has watched anime it would equal to 100 days.) So I made this on a site and had a company make them.

The company I had make them sent me an email canceling the order because the girl I used was Miku Hatsune and her image is owned by Yamaha sadlyicon

Evan sorry I'm late to the party on losing weight take it from me I was in your position three years ago. My weight was over 300lbs because in late 2008 my personal life had many bad things happen (losing my cousin to a drug overdose; my best friend's wife whom was also a best friend walking out on their family and said best friend getting ran over by a vehicle) so my eating habits went down the hill I didn't care what I ate or when I ate. I shot up to probably about 300-310lbs and started having really bad chest pains.

So in early 2009; April to be exact I decided I was going to go on a diet and start excercising. I also started taking Hoodia which is an herbal supplement that helps with snacking and such. I changed my diet; basically cutting out all junk food and sweets only drinking water, milk and the occasional juice drink. I also started excercising where I started off slow. I rode our excercise bike for 5 minutes a day and each week I'd increase that by five minute increments. Doing these changes in my life I was able to drop down 22 lbs the first month, 20 something the second and so on and so on.

I finally got down to a respectable 220 lbs and looked really great and felt really great too.

Sadly in 2010 I lost my job and got really depressed and put on 60lbs between 2010-2012. I'm just now starting to get back down in weight again.

Going back to the diet thing I'd recommend eating a square meal by that I mean eating a protein (chicken, tuna or turkey) item, dairy (glass of milk or cottage cheese) and a piece of whole wheat bread. To change it up you can also eat scrambled eggs and a piece of toast and a glass of milk.

Basically just eat sensibly and excercise reguarly, start off slow and work your way up and if you can invest in some hoodia to help eliminate late night cravings.

For me, being a fan of Godzilla is like experiencing Godzilla's sporadic attacks. There's a year or so where I'm not that enthusiastic about it, and then suddenly my love for the franchise resurfaces in A TITANIC WAVE OF DESTRUCTION.
