Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Okay, so what I learned from "Crash" is that all people are subconsciously racist pricks who only need an unfortunate misunderstanding to bring it all to the surface, and that we should all learn to deal with it.

Wow, Movie, thanks for informing me that I'm a budding KKK activist! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to grow a Hitler-stache and start wearing blackface to school, because I am such a racist prick! Mr. Green thumbz up

[/sarcasm]

Okay, I know "Crash" was supposed to be an ensemble drama shedding light on how bad racism still is, but it handles its message so poorly that I seriously think it's saying "all people are innately racist."

Films like these really need to be handled with more delicacy. Here is an anti-racism movie done right:

In my personal opinion, racism is an issue that does need to be touched upon, but handling it in the manner you say "Crash" did can make the problem worse, even if it means only in the sense that it becomes loathsome to address properly.

I have always thought the film American History X(1998) was an effective "anti racism" movie. Just my opinion.

Most of it. The corny beatnik dialog, the complete fairy-princess mentality of the mother, the fact that the movie wanted me to hate the father despite the fact that he is the only goddamn character who acts like a human being, the ungrateful whelp that passes for a firstborn, the list goes on.

But most of all, I hated how pretentious this movie was. The constant whispering narration (if you can even call it narration), the absolutely pretentious quoting of the bible, the fact that people actually regard this as an intelligent movie despite it not really saying anything. It's just a bunch of childhood memories and a bratty, angry, incestuous child whispering "Where are you God? Why do you let shit happen?" The same generic question any "rebellious" christian teeny-bopper asks when he just wants to bitch about stuff. And he never comes up with an answer either.

Uh, hey genius, have you ever heard of the concept of free will? It's this neat little idea that people are directly responsible for their own actions. Even accidents are, more often than not, the result of human error. Even most Christian denominations believe in free will. It is not a difficult concept to grasp. So I'm kinda guessing that maybe the reason your brother died might just kinda possibly be because he WENT OFF TO FIGHT IN A WAR.

And whatever happened to "the devil made me do it?" You know, that cliched excuse that every half-wit uses when they get into trouble with the local church?

The best thing I can say about this movie is that it does have great cinematography. That is, when the camera-man isn't stumbling around like a drunken cow, and he's drunk A LOT throughout this movie. I'm not even sure most of the other stuff was shot for this, as I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of it on the Discovery or History Channel way before this came out. 10 minutes in, I didn't care about the pretty crap anyway.

Starting in September I will be joining the downtown YMCA. Since I am downtown 3 days a week, I have no excuse for not going. I need to workout. I feel flabby and fat; I also want to bulk up as well. It wont be too costly because it will only be $50/month and I make more than that in a day.

Actually, its my chiropractor who is motivating me. He is the size of a tank and is over 50. Hes always suggested to work out more to stay in shape and to build muscle. I have gained nearly 20 pounds in about a year and I have come to the decision that I would like to be bigger and to have a smaller waist.

& Thanks to the motivation! thumbz up

Well, another job down the drain. This one turned out to be just as depressing as the last one.

So it's back to the drawing board. I've already started putting in applications, with special focus on hospitals and auto parts stores.

I don't know what it is. I know plenty of guys that do odd jobs for this guy or that guy, but they never seem to get hooked up with the pieces of work that I do. Oh well. At least I won't be as depressed while searching for work.

Well, I finally quit today. I didn't mention it in my last post, but one of the reasons for the recent "hostility" between the two of us was because I was spending too much time on certain projects that by all rights shouldn't have. I'll own up to the fact that I have trouble learning; it takes me longer to pick up on things than the average person, and it hurts me often. But instead of just being mad about it, the man chose to insult me; saying things like "you f*ck up everything you touch," and "why can't you do anything right."

In my opinion, that isn't at all necessary, especially when, after he hired me, I specifically told him that I wasn't very knowledgeable about some of the things he was asking of me. I hate to make excuses, but facts are facts.

The icing on the cake came yesterday, when he told me he couldn't justify paying me $7.50 per hour (which was originally eight per hour) for me to "waste time" on things that should be done faster. So he told me he would pay me fifty dollars a week. I ask myself this a lot, and I ask it again, much more sincerely: How can a person's conscious allow them to do things like that? I realize that this guy has big plans for me in the future, but is it worth fifty dollars a week? So I made a judgement call and said no today. When I called him and told him, he informed me that I was making a mistake; that if I stuck with him and learned, it would pay off in the future. This was after he told me he could hire someone for $300 a week that could do everything he asked. You could cut the atmosphere of utter arrogance that surrounds this person with a knife. He made it sound like he was my best option; like I would be sorry if I left. What a pigf*cker.

The entire situation left me broken yesterday, and I couldn't sleep last night because of it. I felt so stupid and worthless; like I would never be able to find something that I could do and do well. I don't learn from my mistakes very well, and it seems like I excel only when I have guidance from someone. It's very frustrating to think that may be my lot in life; that I have to have someone hold my hand everywhere I go.

My Dad talked to me last night and told me that while I do have problems with learning that I shouldn't let this get to me, because this guy is like this to everyone, even his own son. Everybody's mind who doesn't work the same way his does is an idiot.

So now I feel much better about myself, and as I search for a job i won't be nearly as worried and depressed as usual. I'm worth more than fifty dollars a week. very funny

In all my years in the work force I have worked with individuals who picked up on things slower than others. I have never and would never make comments such as these to anyone working with me or for me even if I believed it was willful negligence. I'd still try to take the high road, work with that person and strive to conduct myself in a professional manner. If this fellow who said these things to you routinely says them to others he will ALWAYS struggle to retain workers...believe it. winky

Why do you think that is? Assuming you've asked yourself have you come up with any answers or theories?

He shouldn't even have a job at that point. If this is his attitude towards everybody, as you state further down, then it's a wonder he's still employed.

Yes, since you made a point beforehand that you're a slow learner, he really should have been prepared for it when he took you on as an employee. He needs to work on his patience.

Positive encouragement - He's doing it wrong.

Everybody has at least one useful thing that they take to naturally. For everything else, some people just take longer to get the hang of it than others.
