There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

Something which I feel really, really bad about is happening tommarow. While my brother goes to school, my mother and I are going to go to Sacred Heart Catholic Church to ask for money. I am one who belives in biting the bullet. I believe in not taking charity. But my mother hit the hard fact on me that without electricity, there would be no food. Indeed, no electricity means that the food in the fridge is going to go bad. Alas, this litterally bugs the hell out of me because no matter how much I study, agree with, and embrace Asian philosophies and attitudes, the base of my philosophical and religious reviews will always be Christian. Particularly Catholic. And tommarow, I am going to be walking into a catholic church. I haven't been in any kind of church for any reasons for seven and a half years. I have not been baptized, or have participated in organized religion in any way. I say my own prayers. I do say the rosary every now and again. It is the sins I have committed. The lies, the infidelities. Things no one but myelf know. Thing only I know. Myself and god, believing that he exists. And I have to know that me, being a bad christian by all measure, that I am going to allow myself to borrow money. There is no honor in that. While it is the right thing to do, giving money to those like me who need it, it is not the right thing for my immediate family - which is agnostic/athiest except for me to take the money. This video clip is going to explain a shade of what I am going to feel. Edited by G2Kmaster, Oct 25 2012, 06:39 PM.

Wow, G2K. If you don't mind me asking, why is your family suffering financial hardship? Are they/you unemployed? |

Yes, I am unemployed. I plan on asking officials at my school for help, but as of right now, no one is hiring. Those who are do not want to see people face to face, they just have an employee say that you should fill out an application online. My mother is not employed and with the medical issues that she has now, no one would ever hire her. That is something which needs to be adressed: Financial hard ship is hard, and the importance of health care is something you learn of only when you loose it. Health problems compile, something I never thought of. What is worse is trying to talk about it. When attempting too, it is hard not to come off as if you were sounding like someone who is making crap up or just confused. |

Something you must understand, Evan: there is ZERO nobility in any person's mindset in which they completely and consistently refuse help. This mindset IMO makes you look stubborn at best and clueless and misguided at worst. I am ALWAYS for self reliance but the reality is most working class and/or lower to middle income class people need help from time to time. If you feel disdain for asking for help because it makes you feel guilty, then I would suggest volunteering for community service work at this church, or some other local organization in need. I'm sure this church could steer you to some kind of volunteer work which would prove beneficial to your community. It could be a park clean up, helping an illiterate adult learn how to read, or something else. If your disdain for asking for help is because asking makes you feel less like a man, then I would say, and respectfully, "get over yourself". Some people spend their entire lives trying to find themselves spiritually. Some find what they are looking for and some don't. You have to live, work, pay your bills and when you have the time research and study on your own if you want more religious solidarity in your mind and heart. It's that simple. ![]() You make it sound as if God is going to greet you with a bolt of lightning when you enter this church. I'm thinking, well, he won't. It's not about honor, Evan. It's simply about you and your family being able to function on your own, do things like pay your bills and feed yourselves. To that end I would expect any person to do whatever was necessary, without resorting to violence or breaking the law, to be able to do those things. It's not right according to who? You? Maybe you should let God be the one to decide that. If there is a God and he is anything like what the bible says I'm confident he wouldn't object to you seeking assistance for yourself and your family from any church...regardless of what their religious beliefs are or aren't. |

![]() My suggestion would be that you and Zach together approach school officials. Assuming you do you this I'd like you to keep me updated in this topic thread or by PM. ![]() I think I can speak for any member of this online community reading this post(and others of yours that have touched on these issues) and tell you that you do NOT come across as someone "making crap up". Do you sound frustrated, sad, confused and upset at times? Yes. Given the circumstances it's completely understandable. The two things I would emphasize the most at this point: 1. keep a level head about all of this as best you can 2. always keep an open line of communications with Zach, your mother, other family members and school officials Evan, just a reminder that if you ever feel the need to talk about these issues going on you can also PM "josh TX"(Josh) in addition to myself.

Those are some reat words of wisdom, Lee. It's hard for me to disagree with much of that advice. I have been an atheist/agnostic for years, G2K. I grew up with a Mother who was clearly atheist but allowed me to attend church if I wished. I tried a couple of times, and it wasn't for me. Many concepts of religion bother me, but I don't want or need to get into all of that. Your situation and personal struggle reminded me of a quote I once read from Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius: "Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones." That might be my favorite historical quote ever, and one I live by every day. I'd like to think that I try to do good things in my life, and at the end of the day, whether a higher being is a part of my life or not, I can feel good knowing that I helped or am willing to help better society. It seems to me, G2K, like you are likely already living this kind of life, as I'm sure your Mother has required plenty of your assistance in her life. Someone in your position may have to struggle more greatly than others your age, but know that you are not alone. There are those who will want to help, and respect you even more for the effort that you have put out already. Edited by josh TX, Oct 27 2012, 12:48 PM.

So I finny got around to watching CSI: NY season 9 (this years season) on TV and I could help to notice that Gary Sinise is starting to show his age. This is rather disappointing because we always looked youthful (Even tho he is 57 . . . ) Whelp. That's what age does to you. ![]()

Ran a 5K today for Race for the cure, a non-profit conglomeration that spends proceeds on studying and eliminating breast cancer. Finished in 20 minutes, 53 seconds, which is a good time for me for 5 kilometers. My "mile splits" were 6:42.

Customer service agents must be the most inept people on this planet. We switched to MagicJack earlier this year and the service has been nothing short of terrible this past week reached an all time low Tuesday night we couldn't make calls on it nor recieve them then Wednesday and earlier today we couldn't get calls but we can make them. So I'm on a chat window with customer service and they don't me to unplugged the unit from the wall and now we can't do anything with the MagicJack. The advice they gave me is just common sense. I know they have to read from a sheet but come on if you've already done the step why would doing it again solve anything. I'm now on my second agent because the first one couldn't help. |

Tom, a couple of years ago I considered getting "Magic Jack" but didn't at the advice of a close friend who tried it out and said he had problems every week with this product.

I wish our cable company would hurry up and get their phone service but since we live in a small town the FCC allows the local phone company TDS to have a monopoly here and their are blocks on Charter. Maybe it's time to switch to vonage. |
