Sheesh, at the rate things are going with rent increase, gas prices jumping, I may have to stop buying things near and dear to my heart.....DVDs and diet Pepsi!
I think you can still buy DVDs, Kimi, perhaps not as many, and you might have to try and look for "sales" more often. As for Diet Pepsi, maybe you could get someone you know who has a Sam's Club or Costco membership to buy them for you, as they are cheaper at these two retailers. :)

I'm always very impressed when I hear that someone has quit smoking. Both of my parents smoked at one time, as did all my grandparents and while two of my grandparents are no longer with us (non-smoke related health issues), it's almost as if they never smoked at all. My grandmother, who just celebrated her 80th birthday is going strong and both parents I'm sure are healthier, because of their decision to quit.

Actually, my Mom was told, about 12 years ago, she HAD to quit and to be perfectly honest, she didn't want to, she sobbed her heart out that day, but did quit and has never looked back.

Good luck to all smoker's out there attempting or wanting to quit as well as family members supporting and trying to help family or friends to stop the habit.

Better Homes And Gardens come to her home to take photographs of her extensive backyard garden, which me and my two crewmen maintain, with twice a month visits.  I'll post some pics of this woman's fabulous garden, which is also certified as an Official Natural Wildlife Area, in June.

Look forward to seeing the photos, sounds wonderful!

My own ramblings and SPAM.....

--I'm on my second week of the two new insulin products my Dr changed me to and while I am seeing some lower glucose levels, I am also experiencing some extremes in highs and lows, making me feel even worse than when my glucose levels are a steady high.

--The weather, here, has been gorgeous for the past several days and I'm loving it. Brilliant blue skies, sunny, moderate temps with a cool breeze.....just makes you happy to be alive.

--We've grilled out the past two nights and I swear, nothing tastes better than grilled food.

--Been doing some Spring cleaning and attempting to rearrange some rooms in the apartment. Not an easy task, as the living room is small, so that limits the possibilities, but I'm trying.

--The apartment search isn't going so well, so I'm afraid we'll be locked in to the $100 jump in rent for at least a year. The landlord isn't willing to work with us at all and I forsee future increases in rent, every year, with this guy.

--Gas prices officially hit the $3 mark in some areas, here! While in this area, it's holding steady, as of yesterday, at $2.99, we went out for a bit, yesterday afternoon and in the next county, it was $3.04! freak out

True, I may be able to purchase the occasional DVD, I'll probably have to wait after the rent increase of July and see just how affected my finances are. I'm kind of amazed at how little diet Pepsi I;ve been drinking, lately, I do know, when my glucose levels were sky-high, I had a constant yeast infection in my mouth and throat, so that accounted for my constnat thirst, with the glucose levels beginning to drop, perhaps I won't have the yeast infection and can drink less. As did mine, for a time anyway. There were times, when both my mother and father lit up while watching television, that our living room was turned into a pool hall. nonono Thankfully, by the time I was about fourteen years old, both of my parents had permanently quit smoking.

My understanding, Kimi, is that diuretics, which include soft drinks, can cause your thirst to linger just by continuing to drink them-it's one reason why I never drink soft drinks while working in the summer heat. :)

This is the approach I take with my boss. In fact, I have taken this approach with the vast majority of people I have worked for. confused

My parents are rather good with smoking, they refuse to smoke anywhere indoors, and never around anyone, although of course there's always the awful smell afterwards.

My thoughts, exactly. I have a deep-seated dislike for this guy, bordering on hate and I've only met him a couple of times.

One of his reasons for jumping the rent $100 was the cost of water, sewer, the garbage dumpster, etc. This morning, I sat in the living room and saw him back his pick-up truck up to the dumpster and he tossed several garbage bags in and drove off! Now, he's bringing his trash from home and filling the dumpster and they will charge more, if we overflow it and he's adding to it! What an ass. thumbs down

I've also heard that, Lee, but being such a diet Pepsi-holic, I never would agree with it, but knew it was true. :) Usually, I hit the 12-pack diet Pepsi sales, where they have either buy one, get one free or 4 for $10 and stock up. I did that, last week and I still have half or more of what I purchased, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. Mr Green -- thumbs up

I honestly think it's the way to deal with the majority of people. You offer too much info or give too much insight into your feelings and it can turn people off to your way of thinking or you come across as a troublemaker or whiner and that breaks down the entire relationship, too.

That's great that they respect everyone may not appreciate smoke. That wasn't the case when I was growing up, because it seemed most everyone was smoking back then. I don't think anyone was really being disrespectful, it was just the accepted thing to do. You watch a lot of TV from the 50s-60s and seemed every character was smoking. Like Dad told me, it was just the thing to do back then. Now, it's just the opposite and many smokers feel like outcasts because of it.

My mother and father told me that's exactly how they became addicted to cigarettes-during the late 1950's and early 1960's both of my parents would attend private parties and other social functions, where, as you mentioned, smoking was "an accepted thing to do". Soon they were both pack-a-day smokers.
"Kaijufanatic"

Indeed it does. Remember too that, just like in today's films, many cigarette manufacturers offer $ to actors/actresses to smoke cigarettes(their brand of course) in a film. Some notable examples I can think of: Don Johnson, whose character Sonny Crockett was a prodigious smoker in the first two seasons of the NBC crime drama Miami Vice(1984-1989). In film: Bruce Willis, whose character John McClane was a regular smoker in Die Hard(1988) and Die Hard 2: Die Harder(1990).

As hard as it may be to believe, doctors actually, on occasion, recommended cigarettes to their patients, in the 1940's and 1950's, as a way for patients to "calm their nerves". freak out

question: if the previous site owner could pay for these things at the rent rate you and the other tenants were paying him, then why not the this guy? The answer of course, is that he could. This prick just wants some extra cash in his pocket. There's no other reason. About him dumping his personal garbage in the apt complex dumpster, it's probably legal, though it shows, on his part, a callous disregard for the tenants. His contribution to the dumpster(by way of his personal trash) leaves less room for the tenant's trash. Obviously this is of no concern for him. In an apartment complex I used to live in, the manager(who did not live in the apartments) was observed throwing her personal(and considerable) garbage in one of the complex dumpsters-several tenants called the company that owned the property and reported her. She received a written warning.

Where my boss is concerned it's especially easy to do, as he has never shown any interest in my feelings concerning anything, work related or not. Because of that I reciprocate in kind. I work for him, and do as he asks me to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

When Carol got home from work, last night, we decided to grill dinner and went out on the back deck. The young woman living below us was outside and asked if we were planning on moving or staying here. We explained we'd called on a couple of places, but missed out and hadn't really found anything where we could move. She told us, she's almost completely moved out, as she's now moving in with her boyfriend! That means both the lower apartments are now going to be empty. We had no clue she was moving, but she said the $100 jump is too much for her. I told Carol, I wish like anything we could move, so the ass would really be in trouble. Jumping rent $100 and then losing two tenants, immediately, I find that, hilarious! :<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

When I was still able to work, seemed like my immediate Supervisor and Group Leaders were all friends and because we spent so many hours and days together, we all became really tight. I know we'd tell each other things we might not tell anyone else and it was nice, because I always knew I could approach them and they'd be there for me as well as me being there for them. I miss that aspect of not being able to work.

I'm always cautious, though, when discussing anything with people I'm not very close with, just because there are people that love to listen and run with everything they hear. I tend to kind of stand back a bit and observe people and you can usually tell soon enough, who is trustworthy and who you kind of hold at arm's length.

Click the two thumbnail images to see two classic examples of how smoking cigarettes was glamorized back in the 1940's and 1950's. Note that one of the images includes that of a baby. Needless to say that in times today, knowing what we know smoking can do to one's health, I don't think a tobacco company would ever dare use the image of an infant in any kind of tobacco advertisement. nonono

Because Pepsi remains the world's number two soft drink company in terms of overall sales. IMO they'll never be number one-Coca Cola will always be that, but number two in the soft drink industry, which accounts for billions of dollars in generated revenue worldwide annually, is still pretty damn good. tongue-1

I wouldn't be one bit surprised! Actually, the two units below are or were $25 less per month than the two upper, as the two upper have access to a storage shed. The weird thing is, the new landlord was here about two weeks ago on Saturday and cut down several small trees on the hill and left them all laying about. He's never been back to clean that mess up or even mow the area. thumbs down

Tobacco companies can, and do, advertise their products, primarily cigarettes, in magazines. Cigarette advertising on television is prohibited. In regards to the latter, I do not believe that will ever change, which I personally think is a good thing.
