For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

... the new landlord was here about two weeks ago on Saturday and cut down several small trees on the hill and left them all laying about. He's never been back to clean that mess up or even mow the area
Based on this we can add another word, in addition to greedy, to describe this asshole: irresponsible. thumbs down

I sure wouldn't mind a little piece of that!

"That" being $35 billion dollars, which was Pepsico's revenues for the fiscal year 2006. Click the link to learn more about this industry giant, which makes Pepsi cola and other products: Pepsico

I guess I don't actually sit and read enough magazines to be up on their adverts. Was TV adverts for smoking banned in the 70s? I was trying to think if I read it was the Nixon years that saw the end of cigarette adverts on TV, but I may be way off with that.

thumbs down I agree. Our neighbor was chatting with Carol on the back deck, last night, as Carol was outside grilling and it was just warm enough, yesterday to be bordering on....too warm. Carol said it would be nice to have central air, as the new landlord said he was considering IF finances permitted. Joan told Carol....don't hold your breath! tongue-1 A few minutes before they talked on the back deck, I'd told Carol the same thing. B)

Yes. Cigarette advertising was banned from television in 1971. Click the link for an interesting article on the "morality" of cigarette advertising: Running on fumes: morality's role in cig ads

Regarding the jackass that is your new landlord, it sounds like your best bet may be just to endure this guy until you can find another place to live. confused

Great article, thanks! I wonder with the affects of drinking and driving such a problem, if we'll eventually see the banning of beer commercials on TV?

Exactly what we've decided to do. Money will be extremely tight with very little left over by the time rent and other bills are paid...that disappoints me, but what can you do, so we'll endure.

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> Would be something to behold, wouldn't it? You know, when I was making really good money, when I was still able to work and getting so much OT, I got to the point where I actually spent very little. I liked to see my savings account, 401k and checking account growing, because of the OT. I keep thinking, if I was still working and getting the OT I used to, I'd be ordering and pre-ordering DVDs like there was no tomorrow. tongue-1

While it's certainly possible, Kimi, I don't think it will happen. Beer is, like it or not, engrained in our culture. It is also, obviously, an immensely popular beverage. You can imagine the stink that would be raised by beer manufacturers e.g. Coors, Anheuser Busch, and Budweiser(not to mention various foreign beer manufacturers like Heineken ) if legislation was introduced to ban all beer advertising. I would think beer manufacturers would hire lobbyists to fight any such legislation, and with the $ these beer companies make, they'd probably be successful at squelching any attempt to pass such laws. The consumption of beer in a commercial is prohibited, by the way, and has been for a long time.
I have always believed that people make choices, regarding the consumption of beer, and they must choose to drink responsibly. It is a person's responsibility, not a beer manufacturer, to drink in a responsible manner, which obviously includes not drinking and driving. I just cannot see the justification, in any way, for holding a beer manufacturer directly, or even indirectly, responsible for a person's choice in how they will consume alcohol.

That's true, but given the info consumers have in the dangers of drinking and driving, it's odd that cigarette manufacturers are being sued for cancer among some consumers, when they are also advised of the dangers of smoking.

Some of the monetary judgments awarded to plaintiffs who have sued the cigarette manufacturers occurred, IMO, because there was some deception, on the part of the tobacco companies, regarding the addictability of their products. By that I mean some of the tobacco companies misrepresented how addictive these cigarettes potentially are, to the public in general, and also these companies have been accused of making, through additives, their cigarettes more addictive. nonono

Other spam from Packmule:

-the temps here in Atlanta, GA remain warm, but it has not gotten hot here...yet.

-the extended weather forecast for the Southeast, this summer: very hot weather, and very dry weather, with below normal amounts of precipitation. thumbs down

-though not someone who watches much television, or TV shows, I have, in the last several months, gotten hooked watching one series: CSI, starring William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger(who looks really great tongue-1 ), George Eads, Gary Dourdain, Jorja Fox(who also looks quite nice tongue-1 ) and Paul Guilfoyle. The show is, IMO, quite entertaining, first airing back in 2000. I watch episodes every night on the Spike cable channel.

It's sad that it's necessary to be this way, but these days, you really have to be wary of people.

Interestingly enough, Kimi, I recently told a friend of mine(who is also a PT counselor at his church) that I likened myself, regarding people, to a man who has built a fortress around himself in order to keep people out. It certainly feels that way sometimes. I told my friend that most people are probably satisfied to build a home and install a security system(alluding to a person's instincts) as opposed to me, who has built a fortress, with high walls and weapons placements, all designed to keep people at bay. I came to the conclusion that this "fortress" may not be necessary, and it's time to downgrade to a home with that "security system", more commensurate, I think, with people in general, who are, for the most part, good.

Some unnecessary ramblings from KF.....

-For the first time in several weeks, our new landlord was here, yesterday. He brought a wood chipper and took care of the piles of branches and small sapplings he cut down a few weeks ago. Now, he just needs to mow and it might look pretty nice.

-The weather here in northeastern PA was gorgeous for a few days, but I fear the next couple may be way too warm and humid for my liking. freak out

-After being down and out for almost 6 weeks, I'm thrilled that DVD Profiler is back up and running. Mr Green I've used this DVD catalog site for probably 6 years or more and was going through some serious withdrawals, without it.

I think I've kind of reached a 'happy medium' in my life. For most of my life, I tended to be far too trusting of people and was hurt by their actions or words on several occasions. I don't think I ever got to the point where I was so wary of people that I wouldn't try to be approachable, but I think I could have gotten to that point. Now, I am still willing to make friends and have a friendly relationship, but to a degree, I don't open up as much as I did at one time, until I feel quite comfortable with the other person.

I'll aways have the optimistic outlook, just tainted ever-so-slightly with a bit of pessimism for good measure. ;)

Yes, that's true. I paid for the registered version of, DVD Profiler about five or six years ago and I really like it, as I can access it even while offline. I do like DVD Aficianado, but occasionally I cannot put a title in my list, because too many titles are listed and I can't get past the first 200 titles! I have attempted on several occasions to 'break down' my discs into sub-categories, but can only get a few sub-categories to list. eh? I still add DVDs to Aficianado, but feel my Profiler program is more complete, at this point in time.
