| Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

Some characteristics of me that I have to continually work on: -impatience. I am too impatient regarding too many things, and it can have a tiring effect on your mind and body after an extended period of time. -perfectionism. Too many times I want things to be exactly perfect, and I don't want to settle for anything else. I am trying to get away from this, and accept that things are rarely ever going to be perfect. -temper. I still have one that rears it's ugly head too many times. I'm much better than I was, say, 10-15 years ago, but I still have a lot of room for improvement. This ties in, to some degree, with "impatience".

Weather related topic, weather update from where I am: Summer rain storms, thunder booming, pouring rain. I love it, a storm like this about once every other week is fun, sitting out on the porch to watch. Luckily for me, we're not anywhere where the weather is that dangerous, just very loud and wet. In another sense though, these thunderstorms are well, peaceful. |

I sometimes enjoy taking a nap when it's raining hard outside-the sound of the rainfall can help me fall asleep. Does the rainfall have the same effect on you, Corey?

Internet security for one's PC is becoming more problematic these days. At one time only computer viruses attached to emails were considered the primary means by which hackers could damage a person's computer, or hijack a person's browser. There is a new threat now called infectious web pages. Click the link for more on this threat, and what you can do to minimize it regarding your own computer: http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/05/the_next_net_th.html |

I think if we're honest, we all have some habits we'd like to or need to work on. With me they include: -Impatience/Temper.....I tend to be impatient when I want something done or when I am expecting something to be done. I have a horrible temper, when I get wound up, it can wear me right out, actually. -Moodiness.....I think I tend to get this trait from my Dad. Funny, when you see a habit or trait in a family member that you're not particularly fond of, you always seem to inherit it. I really dislike moodiness and would like to break this one! Other than those habits, I might be damn near perfect. Mr Green |

It's odd, but from the time I was a wee lass, I was terrified of thunderstorms. Mom said one night she and Dad were out for the evening and a horrible thunderstorm came up. She told Dad they needed to get home, because I was afraid of thunder and such. Not sure how pleased Dad was to cut his night short, but they got home and Mom asked about me and the babysitter said she had no idea I was afraid, I;d gone to bed without any problems. Mom came up and said there I was, weeping very quietly under the blankets, sweating like crazy. I'm not quite that bad, these days, but they still freak me out! |

My landlord, Mrs. C, who is 86, was briefly hospitalized this past week, for two days. After complaining she didn't feel well, my landlord's personal assistant called Mrs. C's personal physician, and it was decided she should go to the hospital. Tests on Mrs. C picked up an infection in one of her lungs. After two days of rest and medication Mrs. C has returned home, in otherwise okay health. She will continue medication for two weeks, with a followup visit to her doctor in about ten days. |

:( Perhaps a natures sound CD, which includes sounds of a thunderstorm, might help. By that I mean maybe listening to the sounds during the day, on occasion, would alleviate, somewhat, your queasiness when a real thunderstorm comes around. :) |

Sorry to hear Mrs C was hospitalized, but glad to hear she's back home, again. Some more ramblings by, KF.... --Mom is now officially on insulin to help control her diabetes. We all felt it was going to happen and as of, yesterday, it was put into motion. --Tuesday, the weather here was hot and humid, but since then, it's been great...cooler temps and a nice breeze. I live for this kind of weather. Mr Green --Been suffering with horrible aches and pains in my shoulders, elbows and legs, all week. Was taken off one med in hopes it would relieve the pain, but that was almost 2 weeks ago and still no relief. :( --I've actually been revisiting a lot of my DVDs, of late....some that I haven't sat and watched in a year or so. That's been fun. --I'm constantly amazed at the lack of quality TV early in the morning and late at night. Gee, even on a Saturday morning, about all you see is news programs or infomercials! Give me the good old days when I was growing up and Saturday morning meant great toons and the afternoons meant classic sci-fi/horror films. --Does this happen to anyone.....you have a nice enough DVD or VHS collection and you find yourself staring at the films and still can't decide on what to watch?! |

It's odd, I don't react the same way, as an adult, but I've never quite gotten over my fear of thunderstorms, especially when I am awakened by loud thunderclaps at night! Usually, if that happens, I turn the light on and sit up for a few minutes and read, then I relax enough to sleep, but one of those CDs might be helpful, sure can't hurt to try it. :)

The treatment listed in the one link sounds rather interesting. Weird, but I don't go all to pieces if someone else is around, not sure if I;m trying to be brave to avoid embarrassment or to calm others down, like my young nieces and nephews. Thunderstorms have been a fear of mine as long as I can remember, but thankfully, they don't affect me as much as my other huge phobia.....spiders. I can't function at all when it comes to spiders and I'm still freaking out, after reading that article in a previous post and looking at the photos!

I've tried to. The only reason I can think of is that when I'm unable to decide on what DVD to watch, it's actually my subconscious "telling" me that I just don't want to watch anything at that particular point in time.

:( Tell you what, no more posts about spiders...at least for a good while. :) One thing to bear in mind, Kimi: tarantulas and their larger counterparts the giant tarantulas are NOT indigenous to your part of the country(the American tarantula is located in the American SW only), meaning you'll never run across one. The biggest spider you might ever see(outdoors) would be a wolf spider, and then only if you are in the deep woods. Most do not exceed more than 2" in width, and most are smaller than that. Okay. Now I'm done mentioning spiders. I promise. :) |

I'm still actively searching, but not really having much luck at this point. Mom did stop in and told us about a trailer that was going to be empty and in the area where they used to live. We followed Mom up, last night and drove by the place.....a huge yard and the trailer from the outside looks to be in great shape. I'm not real hip on moving into a trailer, I rented one about 12 years ago and by the time I'd moved all my stuff in, it was already too small. Looks like we may have to sign a lease and stick it out for a year, which I didn't really want to do, but options are few at this point.

No, I actually find info about the spiders fascinating, but they freak me out so much. I mean, if I'm channel surfing and I come across a program on say, The Animal Planet or National Geographic Channel and they're showing tarantuals, centipedes, etc....I can't seem to click from that channel! I just watch and watch and watch, until I'm sure every breeze across my arm is a bug of some kind! shocking Don't stop discussing spiders on my account. What about those brown recluse spiders, they're pretty nasty, from what I've read and are they indigenous to all areas of the U.S.? |

Okay. Brown recluse spiders are not aggressive, but they're bite is poisonous. They are found throughout the United States, though they are predominantly found in southern parts of the Midwest and the general southeastern part of the country. Along with the Black Widow spider it's the only poisonous spider in the United States. Click the link for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_recluse_spider |
