Man, oh man! Spiders are just so creepy, but I can never look away! freak out They certainly are a fascinating species, but odd how some of us can have such horrible fears over certain animals or insects.

Great info, thanks for the link. thumbs up

I am grateful for the roof over my head, no doubt about that. I guess the new owners could have come in and celared us all out, but the rent increase was kind of like a punch in the stomach.

My Dad is also looking to move, so a lot of us are suddenly wanting to or needing to move.

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

Been a rough couple of days for the family. My Grandmother's husband suffered two strokes on Tuesday, one was severe enough to cause bleeding in the brain and left him paralyzed on his right side. As of, yesterday morning, they gave no hope and pretty much told us they were going to do all they could to make him comfortable....it was just a matter of time. Last night, when the neurologist came in, Charlie had perked up quite a bit more and seemed more aware of everything. The Dr said he could bring himself back out of this to a degree or he could suffer another stroke or go downhill at any time. The family felt a little more hopeful, last night, so that's something. 'GB' married Charlie when I was around 10, so he's been in our lives for a long time. It's tough to see GB weep, as she's a very strong woman and doesn't cry, easily, but has weeped a little off/on. That's why I haven't been online much, lately, as I've been spending time with family.

This morning, two of my nephews 'graduated' from sixth grade and we all attneded the ceremony. Since we don't have middle school in our school district, the kids go to the Jr/Sr high school in 7th grade, so a big deal is made of 'graduating' from 6th grade. It was really nice and one nephew received a Presidential Academic Achievement Award for carrying a 'B' average all through grade 4-6. My cousin's son also graduated and it was a nice enough day that we were outside.

With your fear of spiders, Kimi, I would recommend you never move to: South America, Africa, Southeast Asia(e.g. Thailand, Burma, the Koreas) and Australia. All of these countries are home to various species of theraphosids(giant tarantulas, with leg spans of 7" and greater)) and Australia also has an aggressive, poisonous arachnid called the "Funnel Web" spider to boot. freak out

Dad and I went around to a couple of cemeteries, today, to put some flowers on family graves and he shocked me with something he said. He may actually purchase a home rather than rent and he said if he can find a large enough place, Carol and I are welcome to move in and we can pay him rent....I know Dad won't fleece us! Mr Green

This could benefit everyone, I would think. He would have ownership rather than just continuing to make rental payments, and you and your roommate would have a nice place to stay without the being the victims of a greedy and unreasonable landlord.

I wonder if Alaska has spiders?

Common house spiders are everywhere, Kimi. Giant tarantulas aren't. I did a little research on the wildlife indigenous to the state of Alaska, and while there was no mention of any certain species of spiders, there are many other critters that make their home in Alaska to be plenty concerned about: large land animals like moose and elk, and predatory animals like wolves and grizzly bears, the latter an animal that can attain a truly awesome size. The North American grizzlies, Kimi, are among some of the largest predatory land animals on Earth. For more info on Alaskan wildlife click the link:

I think this could work out nicely for all of us. Dad and I get along well and Dad and Carol get along, too. We all tend to kind of do our own thing and I don't think we'd ever bother each other to the point of causing problems. Mom said that my step-Dad voiced concern, but heck, I look at it this way, if for some reason it wouldn't work, it's as easy as moving out.

I really enjoy going around to the cemeteries, I like seeing the dates on the stones and it makes me feel good to put flowers on the graves of family, as well. I used to go with Grandma and Granddad and it always meant a lot to them that I was willing to go.

More meaningless ramblings from KF....

--Been mighty hot and humid, here, the past several days and I'm hating that.

--Watched a lot of women's college softball, this weekend. It's wonderful to see my favorite sport for women, getting some serious airtime on ESPN. thumbs up

--Sat down and went through my poster, lobby card and stills collection, last night. Definitely wish I had more of everything, but still, way more than I'm able to display and that always has me thinking, should I even hold on this stuff? eh?

--Sitting here feeling way too warm and sticky with the humidity, so wishing I had a nice, cold smoothie....there used to be a place at the mall that had GREAT smoothies, the one I loved had coconut in it, I'd like one of those, now...please. Mr Green

That's one thing I think about...grizzly bears. freak out I'd definitely hate to meet up with a grumpy or startled or even wounded bear. Carol and I had a black bear run across the road, the other day, about 2 cars in front of us. Carol was thrilled, as she'd never seen a live bear, since she's lived in PA. I've seen a few and came face-to-face with one, several years back...they are amazing animals, but walking around the woods in any area of the country, may not always be the safest pasttime.

Where do your usually store them? On the floor? On a shelf? heyo

The Memorial Day certainly didn't get off to much of a start here-the power went out for about 2.5 hours, from 7:45 AM until about 10:00 AM. I had to throw some leftovers out of the fridge and, without electricity, I watered my plants(indoor and outdoor) and read articles from G-Fan magazines. This is the fourth time the power has gone out here where I live in the last six months, each time the power remaining off for at least an hour, and usually a good bit longer. The only time I called the power company(Georgia Power) to inquire as to the reason for the power outage(the 3rd outage) a rep told me, in a rambling and halfway incoherent monologue that sounded as if it were read off an index card, that their "testing" of their equipment has periodically resulted in equipment failures(such as blown transformers or other faults). I asked the rep if it was considered normal for a power utility company, simply performing local diagnostic checks of their substations and other related hardware, to have power outages every few months. The rep said they didn't happen that often. I cited three dates, times, and durations when it did happen here at my address(I keep a log book with this info)-the rep, obviously not expecting me to provide specifics, said she would "look into the info I had provided." Yeah. Right. And frogs have wings. very angry

There's a risk in doing this, just like doing just about anything in life. As someone who used to hike quite a bit in north Georgia, I can tell you that nowadays I would try to discourage anyone from hiking alone-instead do it in a group or at the very least with one other person. When I hiked alone, in the north Georgia foothills, I took with me:

-a small sleeping bag that was tightly rolled up in my large backpack
-a knife(usually a buck knife and holster)
-a compass and some kind of map of the area I was hiking in
-a flashlight with spare batteries
-a canteen, and several extra plastic bottles of water
-lots of beef jerky
-a couple of books of matches and a zippo lighter(fully fueled)
-a loaded .38 revolver with one loaded "speedloader"(in case of contact with a bear or some kind of rabid animal)
-a sturdy, water-resistant sports watch
-a lined jacket(always), in case of a surprise cold snap at night
-several pairs of extra socks
-one extra pair of (hiking) boot laces
-canned food and a can opener(usually enough for a couple of days)
-a first aid kit
-several flares

The only thing I would add to that list now, that I didn't have back in the late 80's/early 90's when I went out on my hikes: a cell phone and an extra battery.

Most of my posters/lobby cards/stills that aren't on display are kept in the plastic bags or holder they were purchased or came with and then all are in large plastic totes. The totes are in my bedroom, easily accessible for me to grab, when I get the urge to look at them. Mr Green

If we did end up sharing a home, Dad would be most welcome to borrorw any DVD, but Dad isn't a widescreen fan and most of my discs, are in widescreen, when that was the original aspect ratio. He might borrow some of my spaghetti westerns or war films and perhaps some of my classic sci-fi films, but I think many of my titles leave him standing there.... eh?

Thanks for asking, Lee. :) Mom began small doses of insulin about two weeks ago and they are still in the stage where they are adjusting her doses, but she's doing OK. With her step-Dad being in the hospital, she's been on the go a lot and my two nephews that live with Mom and Jim just left for three days in D.C, with their sixth-grade class. She's been busy preparing them for the trip, visiting the hospital, visiting the cemeteries and my step-Dad's best friend just passed away last night, from cancer. He was diagnosed, last week, began chemo on Friday and was gone, last night. :(

What kind of cancer did he have? It sounds like he must have had it in his system awhile before he went to see a doctor. ?

Liver cancer. I'm a bit confused, in talking to Mom, she said some of the family mentioned the hospital knew he had a 'spot', but never made much about it and the next time he went, it had suddenly gone from 'spot' to 'spots' and blockages through his system. :( Thankfully, he didn't suffer for too long, it's tough on his family, but they said rather than watch him suffer any more than he did, they'd rather see him at peace.

Some mindless babble from the queen of babble.....

--My grandmother's husband is being moved to a nursing home faciility, today. I wasn't down at the hospital, Mom called me and said he smiled slightly, but you could see the sadness in his eyes, as he won't be able to come back home....at least not at this stage.

--Yesterday became very hot and humid and while Carol was off, yesterday, we didn't put the ACs in.....I could kick our behinds for that blunder! She's working, Friday through Sunday, so we probably won't get them put in until her next day off...Monday. freak out

--I'm in the mood to watch some classic sci-fi/horror films, but can't seem to settle on any title! I always feel like Friday nights and Saturday afternoon/night should be dedicated to classic sci-fi/horror, as it always seemed to be on, when I was a kid.

I believe both are 5000 BTU. We were thinking of getting one of those portable untis that Wal*Mart is carrying, they are supposed to be 10,000 BTU and we figured one of those would be more than enough to cool the apartment.

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> If I kick Carol's behind, I'll be sure to get a photo of that. ;)

We actually did put one unit in, after Carol got home from work and you can already feel the difference. :) Of course, I drive Carol nuts with making sure the seal is perfect around the window, so no spiders or other bugs can get in. freak out The next door neighbors put a unit in their bedroom and they seemed to pop it in anf go, but we spend forever sealing off the unit. I do hope, if we end up staying here, the owner will eventually install central air, then we won't have to fool with the units.

A 5000 BTU AC unit is designed primarily to cool one room-if it's a particularly large room it's performance may not be as desirable. A 10000 BTU AC, which is physically larger, will add considerably more cooling power, and could easily cool several small rooms or one very large room quite easily. I use to install them periodically when I worked in the home furnishing lease-to-own industry, from 1988-late 1991.

I wouldn't hold your breath on your new landlord doing any central HVAC, or anything else for the tenants in your apartment building, out of the goodness of his heart.

What happened?! eh? I just typed out a long post and it's gone?! Suddenly my message screen went all white, as if I;d not replied at all. Oh well, it was useless babble, anyway. ;)

I will post some gripes, though.....

Yesterday, Carol and I went to Wal*Mart for some household items...toilet paper, paper towels, fabric softner, etc...etc....etc. We picked up in Wal*Mart what we couldn't get at K-Mart on Friday night. Now mind you, we spent almost $100 on Friday night, for household goods! very angry Yesterday at Wal*Mart, there wasn't one DVD in the cart and we spent almost $120! This is all household cleaning items or personal hygiene items! Then, we went to the grocery store and spent about $120! freak out This was no soda, no snacky food (chips, candy, cookies, etc), no cereal and very little in the way of meat! I got paid on Friday, by the time I pay my share of the rent, car payment, insurance, get prescriptions, pick up household items and groceries, I'm already looking forward to 03 July, for a check! :(

I don't think I;d complain as much, if I had a new DVD or two in the mix, but nada! shocking

I can't tell you how disappointed I am with our local Wal*Mart or K-Mart, they have absolutely nothing in the way of DVDs. very angry Now, Wal*Mart did have the third season of, Scooby Doo, but I need the season one and two and with a price tag of just under $28, I couldn't see getting it. I'll be very curious to see if Wal*Mart shelves, Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster or Invasion of the Astro Monster, though.
