For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I'll be very curious to see if Wal*Mart shelves, Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster or Invasion of the Astro Monster, though
There's a member over at the ATARI Godzilla forums who is an employee at a Wal Mart-his store did not have either of the new Classic Media DVDs and further comments he made in his post, many of them, not surprisingly, negative, suggested other Wal Mart stores may not stock them either, or at the very least would be slow to stock them.

Other spam from the mind of Packmule: I happened to be at home today for a few extra hours, and spoke with the Terminix pest control technician, who sprays for bugs at my landlord's residence quarterly. This technician confessed to me that he was a huge fan of Godzilla, and he openly marvelled at my collection of DVDs, figures, cards, and books/mags related to Godzilla, Ultraman and other kaiju. Upon praising my collection I informed him that there was a member of my kaiju themed discussion board(using no names of course tongue-1) with about three(3) times the DVDs that I have. Mr. or Ms. Cool

I will buy a disposable digital camera this weekend and take some shots of my collections, my "crib"(as the young guys might say tongue-1 ), and some outside shots of the house I live in. I'll post the pics by Monday or Tuesday of next week. :)

Been hot as hell down here in Atlanta the last two weeks. We've already had six days of 90 degrees+ temps and summer doesn't even "officially" start until June 21st. freak out

The current watering restriction(for plants, grass, etc) is odd numbered addresses can water on Sundays(only), and even numbered addresses can water on Saturdays(only). If the drought worsens we may be on a total outdoor watering ban by July. Certain businesses are, obviously, exempt from these watering restrictions: plant nurseries and landscape businesses, like mine, that also include an inventory of trees and shrubs for sale.

It was 90+ degrees, here, yesterday with high humidity, but we had some severe storms pass through and with those came some cooler temps.

The heat and dry weather will certainly affect my employer's business this summer-we've already postponed some tree and shrub plantings because of the heat and the watering restrictions(residential). It has helped me a little, as I have to water a friend's plants/trees in his large, garden-themed backyard while he's in Ohio visiting his mother and two brothers. I'll rack up about 6-7 hours of watering in his yard this week, which will mean about $70 extra cash in my pocket next weekend after he returns from his trip. I also have another side job going, prepping and painting the wood trim of a red brick house-once I'm finished with that(next Saturday) I'll collect the unpaid balance on that job, which will = about $120. I have a third little "pruning" job to do in two weeks that'll pay me about $80. The best part of these jobs: payment is always cash and always tax-free. thumbs up

Any plans for the extra cash or socking it away for the TV purchase, later this year?

I'm going to wait until the end of 2008 to buy a 30" or 32" flat screen high definition TV. The reason: I spent a a lot of $ last year-$150 for the new computer my friend "Kevin" built for me, $200(almost all of my Xmas bonus) on a new 27" flat screen TV, plus too much $ on DVDs. This year I've already spent about $80 on a second multi-region DVD player(Daewoo). This year I'm just going to spend $ on the DVDs I really want and leave it at that. Assuming I get a bonus at Christmas I'll probably use it to buy an external hard drive for my computer, in the $75-100 range. This external drive will add a lot of memory capacity to my computer. No crazy spending this year. The plan, for saving for my HD television, is to put away all side work $ earned starting in September of this year. That gives me a three month head start on putting away $ all of next year. With about $700 I can get a 30" or 32" flatscreen HD TV.

On July 10 I am scheduled to have minor back surgery. I have a disk in my lower back that is causing me some considerable discomfort. At first I thought the problem could be addressed through a chiropractor but after a visit to my doctor, he and a back "specialist" decided that minor surgery was the best option. I will be interned at the hospital for up to two days after the surgery, which is supposed to last about 45 minutes to an hour. After I'm discharged I will be on strict bed rest for another 3-4 days, and, with the exception of answering the call of nature, prohibited from moving around out of bed. I will be on painkiller medication most of the week and incoherent from that as well.
My back pain has been plaguing me for nearly two years and it's best I go ahead and take care of it now, before it gets progressively worse. I will be off line for about a week. In my absence Dan Baghdoian, aka "Ro-Dan", will be in charge. Anyone with a problem or issue regarding this site please PM Dan and he'll help out.
This post is "read only" and "FYI" the members of Monsterland Forums. Best wishes to all the members of MF-I hope all of you have a great summer! :)

I was persuaded to buy an HD television after several people I've spoken with on the internet told me that regular DVDs look noticeably better with an HD television. Kimi, your 27" TV is HD-you agree? heyo

I love my TV and will say, most of my DVDs do look very nice, some of the DVDs that had iffy releases with poor picture quality, look quite bad on the HD-TV, I think. I talked to a friend who said the same thing, so I relaxed a little, I thought my TV or DVD player was bad. freak out

Which would mean they would also look so-so on a television that is not high definition, I would think. confused

Other spam: I got my first wasp sting of the summer: I walked right over an underground yellow jacket nest while hand shearing a shrub. I was immediately stung twice on the back of my right leg. I counted about fifteen of them buzzing about. Thankfully the little bastards didn't chase after me, as they've done before. Still, getting stung by them irks the hell out of me. I'm not allergic to stings, but I get sore from them. The back of my right leg feels like someone whacked me there with a two by four. very angry

Ouch, sure sorry to hear about the stings. I was nailed by a hornet about two years ago and while I've been stung on several occasions by wasps, which do hurt like hell, I have never had a sting hurt this much. freak out I screamed and dropped the ball I was tossing to my nephews and the area on my arm swelled so fast and the area was red and warm to the touch....took a couple days for it to even feel better. I wasn't happy.

Tuesday night, Carol had gone to bed, early and I sat up watching TV. Around midnight, I headed for the kitchen and out of the corner of my eye, I saw something near the computer room door......a HUGE spider! freak out I didn't yell to Carol.....I screamed. She said she almost had a heart attack when she heard me scream. Bless her, she came out, said, 'Holy Sh*t', when she saw how large it was and proceeded to kill it with her sneaker. I'm still a jangle of nerves....scared to death to go in any room, put on my shoes without Carol checking them or my clothes. Carol heads back to work, tomorrow for the weekend and I'm not sure how I'll get through her being out of the apartment. shocking

I do-check your footwear, always, before placing them on, and also get a can of "Black Flag" or other pesticide that kills spiders. Use it with caution, as it would be toxic to your cat, Heiney Butt. As for the spider, my guess is it's a wolf spider that somehow got inside your apartment. Common house spiders never get large. Wolf spiders can attain a size of 3.5 inches in width or slightly more, though most fall in the 2-3 inch range. If the spider you saw was this size, and either black or a dark gray in color, then it was a wolf spider.

Fresh off a pair of wasp stings a couple of days ago I tumbled down several wooden "tie" steps this afternoon while watering plants/trees at a friend's backyard garden after clocking out from my day job. It probably could have been worse as I fell, and landed on the wood deck, awkwardly. Result: a knot on the underside of my left arm, some bruises on the underside of my right arm and a backache. very angry

Wow! I sure hope you can keep yoruself in one piece, before you're scheduled surgery! :) This has been a rough week on your body.

As for the gigantis spider, I think it may have gotten in because Monday, the new landlord was here all day and he mowed the area at the top of the hill, which hasn't been touched for two years as well as cut several smaller trees down. I think the beastie with eight legs had his area mowed and cut and took off for a safer area, which, unfortunately, was this apartment! freak out

The last decade has been rough on my body. tongue-1

Adding to this week's misery around our shop, my bosses' pickup truck was broken into, while parked in his own driveway, around 5:30 AM, about 90 minutes before he shows up at the office. One of the windows of his GMC pickup had been smashed out-since he kept nothing of value inside the truck nothing of value was taken. A car parked on the street at a nearby house also had one of its windows knocked out. freak out

I hear you on that statement! <_<

Some mindless babble from KF....

-We're supposed to hit the 90s beginning Sunday or Monday with high humidity and can you believe it, my AC isn't working that well, now. cross eyed

-Carol and I went grocery shopping last night and we purchased nothing but fruit and veggies and spent over $70!? freak out It's cheaper to be overweight and unhealthy than trying to eat healthy!

-Ran to Wal*Mart after grocery shopping, so I could get a couple Father's Day cards and ended up getting Dad two DVDs; Blazing Saddles and The Great Escape. Jim isn't a huge film fan, but I got him, Smokey and the Bandit, as he does like those films.

-Received an E-mail from a good online friend that she may be facing bone cancer. She battled breast cancer three years ago and came out well, but this has really thrown her. It's not definite, but from early tests...X-Rays and an MRI, they feel it could be cancer. :(

-Still haven't heard from my Dad since Monday, he is very busy looking at homes to possibly buy....I'm dying of curiosity, wondering if he's decided on one. I know he placed an offer on one, but there are other interested parties and Dad said with some work it needs, he won't offer any more than he did.

It's probably because it's four years old and it's ready to die. It just doesn't seem to be giving off much in the way of cool air.

I called Dad this evening to wish him a Happy Father's Day and we talked for some time. He said he put an offer in on the one house that I know he wanted very much and they countered with a $1000 drop in price, Dad said they must have thought he was an idiot if they thought a $1000 drop in price was enough. He said he hopes to be in a house before Summer's end, but if he can't get a place that he really feels good about, he'll simply wait until next year.

That might be the reason. If it's a 5000 BTU unit five years is the average life span for these units, assuming they are used heavily.

an interesting past couple of days, no doubt. I say that because my landlord had family visiting her this past weekend. After her son-in-law smelled gas my landlord, "Mrs. C", called Atlanta Gas Light. A very friendly AGL employee came out and inspected the basement of Mrs. C's house, which is furnished, has one and a half baths, a den, a fireplace, a kitchenette area, a dinette area, and multiple closets and an outdoor patio. It's also my current residence. Result of the AGL employee's inspection: there's a continual (natural) gas leak coming from a valve on the water heater in Mrs. C's basement(a different part from where I reside)-the gas is still seeping through the walls and through the fireplace in my part of the basement. freak out Apparently this old valve has been leaking natural gas, which contains carbon monoxide, at least since I moved into this furnished basement nearly a year ago. The AGL technician, as required by law, shut off the gas to my landlord's house, until a plumber can fix the valve attached to the water heater. The revelation that I have been exposed to low level but persistent levels of carbon monoxide was at first a surprise to me, then later I began to feel kind of angry about it, though I don't blame my landlord-she was unaware of the leak all along. She is currently trying to find a plumber who can come out and repair the old, worn out valve on the water heater, so that AGL can come back out, sign off on the repairs, also required by law, and then turn the gas back on. Guess I'll be taking cold showers in the AM for at least a couple of days. freak out

I'm sure happy to hear they discovered the cause and it can be fixed, but almost a year of that, probably isn't the healthist thing you could have been exposed to. Did you suffer a lot of headaches and such over that period of time or were the levels low enough to not cause you to suffer any constant affects?

I noticed a slight increase in tension headaches the past few months, and some weekends I felt a little more lethargic than I usually do. I spoke with my doc about this-he told me the sensations of lethargy and headaches were probably an effect of the exposure to carbon monoxide. He also said the levels were only enough to affect me in this manner, and not worse. I asked him if a checkup, based on this news, was in order. He answered "no", but told me to call him back if I felt any worse, in the next few months, for any reason. Hopefully I won't have any reason to call him.

Let's hope.  We've had some cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, just outside this area, during the winter months a few times.

The plumber came today and capped off the leaky valve to the water heater, the one which was leaking natural gas, which contains carbon monoxide. The plumber stated, as did the Atlanta Gas Light employee, that the leak was small, but continuous. The valve, connected to a line that runs to my fireplace, was capped because I have never used, or will use, the fireplace.

Or, unfortunately, a potential access point into the basement for outdoor critters like birds, opossums, and raccoons. thumbs down

If it were up to me, Kimi, I'd brick the damn thing up. If it sounds like I'm not a fan of fireplaces that's because I'm not. Fireplaces, and chimneys, require maintenance, and even when properly maintained there is the constant threat of carbon monoxide fumes should the chimney not "vent" properly. freak out
