If you were granted one extraordinary ability that normal humans are incapable of performing, what would you choose, and why? How do you think this ability would complement your personality? Anything goes here, but you can only choose one general feature. Telekinesis or teleportation, flight, invisibility, etc. Or you can choose something more far fetched such as turning into something, living forever, sleeping forever, etc.

I'd simply prefer flight. It would give such a free feeling.

Same for me. I have always imagined having the ability to fly, and flying. It must be, I think, a marvelous sensation. thumbs up

Just a reminder to the members here at Monsterland Forums that anyone desiring a custom title can let me or Dan B. (aka "Ro-Dan")know by email or by PM here and we'll install it for you. Our only rule concerning member titles is that they contain no profanity.

Profanity usually gets me the impression of a poor sense of humor.

Or an absence of a sense of humor, as I have been accused of with some degree of regularity. Unfortunately, Kex, for many individuals who get older, maintaining their sense of humor can prove difficult, if not impossible. I would say that probably applies to me, no doubt about it. I usually refrain from using profanity(in real life) unless I'm angry about something. Fortunately that hasn't been something that's happened very often in the last year.

It's hard to refrain from profanity sometimes, Kex, when your superiors use it gratuitously. That was the case for me during my time in the Army, where everyone from the 1st Sergeant all the way up to the Brigade commander cussed like theyre life depended on it. This probably wasn't a good impression to make on younger soldiers, but I think watching their mouths was the last thing on these leaders minds at a time when the country was on the eve of war. Besides I was always told the military was known for being a bunch of "potty mouths" and I assumed as a kid that the Navy must have been the worst since the signature phrase was coined "cuss like a sailor" tongue-1

I don't care for flying, but perhaps if I was flying under my own ability, it might be different. Invisibilty might be nice for a bit, but you might also hear and see more than you needed. Wiith super-human strength, you'd probably always be asked to lift or move things and become a kind of super-human mover, so not sure which I'd choose. The ability to travel into the past and future might be kind of interesting. If I could do that, Il'd also choose the ability to be invisible, so I could observe things and not bring attention to myself. I was always intrigued by the 1960 film, The Time Machine, but I'd want to witness it all under the cloak of invisibility. Mr Green

Profanity usually gets me the impression of a poor sense of humor.

It's funny, I rarely ever used profanity, UNTIL I began working at the meat-packing plant I worked at for about 15 years. Everybody there would cut loose on a regular basis, it seemed. My language can occasionally get a bit 'blue', but usually when I'm very highly stressed and angry. I always remember my Grandmother telling me that she felt profanity was a sign that someone couldn't express themselves intelligently, so they used profanity. I think of that often, especially when I am letting loose with some un-lady-like words. freak out

I apologize for me recent lack of posting, but this move is getting overwhleming at times. Tomorrow (Friday) and Sunday appear to be the two big days for moving more stuff. My cousin has offered the back of her SUV, as has Mom, so tomorrow we will do as much as possible and Sunday, Skeet and a friend or two will come down and do the heavy lifting, which there really shouldn't be much of.

Carol took apart my computer desk on Tuesday.....it was a huge desk that Mom and Jim got me for Christmas several years ago and we just don't have the room at this point, in the house to use it and Dad has a smaller computer desk, so his will be used. At the moment, I'm tapping out posts with the keyboard and mouse on one TV tray and the monitor and speakers on another and the tower is on the floor, sitting on a 'shelf' that was part of the computer desk. Your assumption was very probably true then, and may still be true now. Profanity was fairly common at my college alma mater, The Citadel, given that many of the cadets(including myself) spent a great number of weekends getting inebriated. Still, the profanity I heard, and sometimes used, was mild compared to the absolute sewage of verbatim that was often spoken by various enlisted and officer types while I served in the United States Navy. I was able to keep myself from descending into these lower depths of profanity "hell" but you can believe that many could not-my own ship's XO, Executive Officer(2nd in command of our ship), used extreme profanity quite often, to the point that it became humorous among the junior officers.

No need to apologize Kimi. Just hang in there, get your move finished and be careful at the same time. I know you'll be glad when your move is a done deal. :)

I heard on the radio this morning that a man had been killed and eaten by bears during a beer festival in Serbia. Half his body was found in the cage, and zookeepers said "only an idiot would jump in the bear cage". They assumed he was either drunk or drugged when he got in.

My advice to that community...next time keep the beer festivities far far away from the zoo.

Thanks, very much, Lee. :) We got nine loads to the house on Friday and Skeet petered out on us, yesterday, so we still have large items to get up for the garbage folks to haul away, a few larger items for Mom and a couple things we are putting in the house. I had a mini melt-down, yesterday and in the end, accomplished very little. Did better, this morning and now I'm out of boxes, until tomorrow evening, but that's OK, I'm very sore and achy and don't feel so hot, today, so a break is in order, now that I've done everything I possibly can, with the exception of running the vacuum cleaner and I'll do that in a bit.

I can't wait for this move to be completed. I swear, my next move will be done when I'm extremely wealthy and can afford to pay packers to come in and pack me up, transport the stuff and unpack me! Mr Green

We finally got a break from the heat and humidity, this weekend, but from the threats on TV, we should be hot and humid, soon enough, this week.

I would certainly think the victim was drunk or under the influence of drugs when this happened because it's seems unlikely that any sober person would willingly enter a bear cage... freak out

Good luck, Kimi, in getting your move finished. So far it sounds like it has been a real chore. It'll be over soon enough. :)

Hey, school starts tomorrow. What a... short summer this was
Here in the United States, Kex, the summer break has been gradually shortened over the last decade as schools opt to start back up earlier in order to factor in potential "rain", "snow" and other off days related to various reason. As you can imagine many parents are not happy about it.

I've been thinking of purchasing a wet-vac the last few weeks and have been reading reviews on them from Home Depot's website. Just wondering if anyone here has any good reccomendations or can suggest one they might own.

I'm looking for a more compact size vacuum, maybe in the 2 to 5 gallon range. I need something smaller because this vac will be used primarily for little jobs and there won't be room to store a big one. I will be using it in the attic to suck water from my AC drain pan, which occasionaly begins to fill when there is a clog. I will also use this to clean up wet spills around the house, which there will be more of when the baby arrives. cross-eyed Finally, I figured on using the air vac to detail clean the interior of my car, which is another reason I would like a compact model that I wouldn't be lugging around.

If anyone has any experience with something like this, tell me about it. Thanks.

Nice input, folks. I've always been interested in knowing what features people would like to have if they could actually be granted these gifts. I guess oftentimes I've imagined the world being a vastly different place, with people teleporting to space, breathing underwater in the ocean or healing mortal wounds with the touch of a finger. I've also often wondered if giving people these abilities would help the human race or harm it more.

Personally I've always desired to have the stretching ability of Reed Richards after reading my first Fantastic Four comic as a child. There are a million things you could do by bending or stretching your body this way, and during crisis situations there would always be valuable ways to help.

I believe school starts this Monday for the kiddies here in Austin, as well as for the University of Texas. UT starting back up will mean quite a bit more traffic downtown as well as quite a few more drunk people walking around on Friday and Saturday nights. B)

Josh, one of my friends uses a Shop-Vac brand wet vac, and says the machine is very reliable. My other friend is out of town and I haven't spoken with him yet about this. This link might prove useful to you in deciding what to buy: http://www.toolsofthetrade.net/industry-ne...&sectionID=1496

Here's Shop-Vac's website: http://www.shopvac.com/

Good luck with your purchase. :)

Thanks. After reading a ton of reviews and factoring in price, size, and purpose of use, I went with a RIDGID brand 6 gallon model for 34.99. This model worked for me because it was priced in my range, had a big enough tank for the jobs I needed, and got above average reviews from other consumers. My first desire was to go with a DeWalt or Shop-Vac model I had been browsing, but the prices were high and I felt they were more suited to industrial use while mine would only be needed for household use and smaller jobs.

The vac performed well on its first uses, which involved me blowing the P-trap clear which had become backed up from the bathroom sink below to the attic AC unit. I was able to suck up the standing water, blow the unit clear enough to feel a strong stream of air through the bathroom pipe (which let me know I had cleared the clog) then I sucked up the standing water which had backed up into the AC unit drip pan. The vac performed as expected, and was powerful enough to handle the large amonts of water which needed to be cleaned out. We will see how this vac performs when I attempt to use it to clean out my car next. B)

Yeah. UT Longhorn students are no slackers when it comes to drinking. The bar areas are always packed on the weekends, with the parties often flooding out into the streets, one of which is gated off to vehicles because of this, every Friday and Saturday night.

Makes me wonder, Josh, if the local police, when arresting a UT student for public drunkenness, motions with their hands(index fingers and pinky fingers) and say "Hook em!" tongue-1

The brutal heat has slightly abated down here in Atlanta, Georgia, with high temps reaching "only" 90-92 degrees this week. I'll take it! bravo clap

I guess you could summarize your day as a walkabout. thumbs up

We've actually had a few shots of rain since this past weekend here in Atlanta, Georgia. The rain was not not, however, enough to alleviate the drought we are in.

Right now I am mulling over what to do about my 36" Magnavox stereo CRT television. I bought this TV from HH Gregg back in late 2004. In August of last year a pop up thunderstorm's lightning strike near my residence caused an outlet in my apartment to burn out. This TV set was plugged into the damaged wall outlet. It blew out the TV's speakers yet the picture and menu functions continue to work fine. A repair shop here in Atlanta, Norman's Electronics, has told me the speakers, and the TV's audio amp, are probably both damaged and in need of replacement, the estimated repair bill for this work $250.00. It will cost me $65 just for them to inspect the television, which is nonrefundable. I paid $400 for this TV and had used it less than two years when it was damaged by the lightning strike. My problem: do I just "write off" the $400 I spent on this 36" TV and buy a 30" or 32" HD LCD for around $600(including tax) or do I invest another $250 in a set that, while it would probably last me many years, is not a hi definition set? The repair shop has told me the set is worth fixing-I'm wary of their "advice" because they have every reason to convince me to turn it in for the repairs, since that is their business. I've been mulling over this TV set ever since it happened. I just don't know what I really want to do. confused
