Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Ok Ive been racking my brain for months over this...a movie I saw as a child, I don't remember the name, but I'll give the best description I can and hopefully someone has seen it and knows what Im talking about. My memories of this film are faint and scattered but here goes:

The main character in the movie is keeping 3 chimpanzees. I dont remember if he was doing tests on them or they were just pets.

One chimp ends up violently killing the other two and then turns on its master and tries to kill him too. This chimp was the biggest and smartest of the 3. If I remember right, the last chimp is eventually killed in a burning housefire, but Im not sure on that part. I would apologize for giving away that spoiler, but chances are if you don't know the movie Im talking about, you wont ever end up seeing it anyway!

Well if anyone does know what this movie is called or any more info on it, let me know. Thanks

Lee, it seems like sometimes that you always seem to know about every movie made. Please take that as a compliment and thanks. I had a feeling there was a chance you would know about the movie I was talking about. Theres another film Im remembering as well, but Im going to do a little research on my own first and see if I can figure it out.

Thanks for the kind words Josh, but I have never seen this film. I found this title by doing the following: I entered "chimpanzees in horror films" and did a Google search on this phrase. After about ten minutes I was able to spot this film among a list of horror/suspense films featuring chimps, gorillas or other primates. Each title listed had a brief description of the movie's storyline. Link's seemed to match very closely what you described. Call it a bit of detective work perhaps, nothing more. The number of movies I'm familiar with and/or have seen is just the tip of the iceberg compared to what I haven't.
If you ever need any assistance in figuring out a movie title in the future let me know and I'll do whatever I can to help. As the admin here I consider it one of my responsibilities to the members of this site. More importantly, I like helping folks out. :)

Cool, thanks. The way you found Link so fast, I figured you had seen it, but one way or another you knew how to find it anyway. I used google and typed in "chimpanzee horror" and "ape horror" and a few others but I didnt find it. Good work.

I'm 28 years old now, so being 10 years removed from a teenager I already feel as if Im out of touch with them these days. Things change so rapidly for kids at these ages, and it's tough to figure out these days what kinds of messages many of them are even trying to communicate.

Although I have found many youngsters on here to be rude, I usually seem to find one in the bunch who is the complete opposite and this person will usually keep me from forming bad stereotypical opinions about these kids as a whole. I've talked to alot of idiots over at gamespot forums, then as Im about to give up with the site I'll meet a young person who is open to listening and offering constructive suggestions while conducting themself in a friendly manner. Its rare, but I have found it.

I don't blame you, Lee, for wanting to take time off from advertising this site. Even if this stays a small community, It would be better than a large one full of ***holes. Although this board may not get a ton of new members, the small community that does exist here will become more tightly knit over time. That's just my two cents I guess.

I second that BOO against the USC Trojans.

Where's your love for the Big 12 teams, Kaijufanatic?  heyo

Well, Josh, I did list the, Colorado Buffaloes. ;) In all honesty, I do like many of the Big 12 teams, but was thrilled to see my Trojans beat the Cornhuskers, last week.

In other news...... ;)

-I did manage to get all my DVDs put into those portable carrying cases. Well, I did put my TV collection on DVD as well as 'snapper' cases and some special packaging cases on shelves in the spare room.

-Last weekend was gorgeous and so Autumn-like, I loved it, this week, temps went back up and I hate it.

-In living with Dad, he and I have had a ton of great conversations and I discovered that Dad knew Sid Haig, before he was, Sid Haig, so to speak, when Dad was attending college and living in Fresno, CA.

-I've been having a very rough time with my pain levels in my legs, hips, shoulders, knees and headaches, this week, so that's also cut back on my computer time, so I apologize for the lack of posts, here.

Yes and perhaps a nice tidy up, too many forums
I did a consolidation here(of forums and topics) a few months ago, at the suggestion of another admin, "Ro-Dan". I'll look over the site again and see if I can streamline things more. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Told you, Lee. ;)

Yes you did Dan, and as you can see I did give you the appropriate credit for that suggestion. tongue-1

As many of you can no doubt see I am continuing to struggle with making a decent looking forum banner for this site. I have Photoshop 7.0 in my computer: it might as well be advanced physics because I'm not close to understanding anything more than a small amount of its overall features and functions. I have read over online tutorials and while they have helped, somewhat, I have not been able to master many of Photoshop's features. As I told a member of this site by PM I wear many hats here at MF, and most of them I believe I wear well, but the "graphics" hat ain't one of them. What I would like for this site, as a banner:

Size-height: anywhere from 250-350 pixels
width: approximately 925 pixels

Background: a charcoal brown color like the current forum skin, with a blended collage of giant monster images.
I have contacted a professional graphic service, which would charge me a minimum of $100 for what I want. I've already spent $20 of my own money on ad removal and I will continue to do that, but I'm not going to drop a c-note(or more) for a banner that in time I, or someone else, might be able to make. If anyone can make this banner let me know. I'm sure I could figure out some form of compensation that would be amenable to both me and the person helping out.
I hope everyone here will bear with me while I get it in a pile regarding our forum banner. :)

"I resemble that remark."

I connect this phrase more with Deadpool, for some reason. Best superhero ever.

That does it. My superpower should be the classic hero wit. Mr Green

I see no reason not to be okay with it.

Spiderman I can understand, but Ben Grimm? Ugh. He's just boring. He should change his name to Cookie-Face, 'cuz that's what he looks like.

Come to think of it, there was actually a very relevant parody character.. I'll try to find it.

I randomly read an issue of FF a few years back that had Ben wearing a metal sort of mask over his face. After reading it I came to find out he had gotten into a scrap with Wolverine and Wolverines adamantium claws dealt Ben a little rock-crumble looking scar on his face. It was kinda weird. Then I guess he wantewd to wear the mask to cover the scar cause he probably figured, hey I was already ugly to begin with but now it's even worse...Ben is a to the Marvel universe what Eeyore is to winnie the pooh...always seems kinda depressed. So I felt pretty bad for the Thing after reading that comic. :(

I use to have that issue. In it Ben Grimm went looking for Wolverine after Wolvie had accidentally scarred his face with his claws. Grim found Logan in, where else? A bar. Grimm called out Logan to fight him. Logan tried to explain what happened but was interrupted by a villain of some sort who could imitate the powers of whoever he was fighting. Ben Grimm and Wolverine put aside their disagreement momentarily while they battled, and finally defeated the villain. After the battle the two went back into the bar and, over stogies and beer, talked and ultimately buried the hatchet. Wolverine explained to The Thing that, during the incident in question(a previous battle where they had fought side by side) he turned and swung his claws instinctually, not realizing it was Grimm behind him when it happened, and that his action was not intentional. The last picture in that comic had Grimm and Wolverine kicked back at the table, both smoking cigars, Grimm's arm around Wolvie and both hoisting glasses of beer. thumbs up

I believe were Ben Grimm to hear you say that he would have a reply of his own:
"It's clobberin' time!". Mr. or Ms. Cool

. Okay. I asked because you seemed a little put off by it. Maybe I was just reading into your PM too much. No biggie. :)

Same for me. I have always imagined having the ability to fly, and flying. It must be, I think, a marvelous sensation. thumbs up

Thanks very much, guys, I appreciate the well wishes. :) I went and had an arterial ultrasound done in both legs, today. According to the technician, all looks OK, but my Dr will have the results in a few days.

I'm thrilled that it looks like I have no blockages, but it still means we have no answer as to why my legs hurt so much. Although, the technician did say that the way my legs want to 'lay', it would appear it's a problem with the bones or severe arthritis.

Yes, it is pretty neat to think my Dad knew Haig, back in the day, before he made it big in films. It was only a year or two before Haig starred in, Spider Baby, that Dad knew him, too.

Well I pushed "Link" to the top of my netflix queue and saw this movie the other night. It doesnt reek of the 80's quite as bad as I was anticipating, and the chimpanzee and orangutang acting is very well done. Gotta remember this movie premiered in 86' so at no time during the film are there any cgi apes or any effects like that. Dummies are used on a couple occasions, but it isnt very noticeable. The apes were very well trained, especially Link, and his onscreen antics alone are worth watching the film for. The film isn't particularly scary, but its impressive nonetheless as it does offer a good idea of what could happen should one of these beasts, which are 8 to 10 times stronger than a human, decide to go "apeshit" on humans and use their talented brains and strength to the extent of their abilities.
