Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

As many of you may have noticed, Monsterland Forums member KaijuFanatic(Kimi) has not been very active here at this site lately. I have communicated with her recently by email and, unfortunately, she hasn't been feeling very well. Her roommate also just underwent some surgery and is recuperating from that, Kimi tying to attend to her roommate's needs as well as her own. I hope many of our members here will take the time to send Kimi some words of encouragement. Her email address: crazy4christmas@chilitech.net

Kimi was, when I first started this site, one of the very few who posted here(besides myself) and I credit her for being one of the primary reasons I decided to keep this site open and invest my time and efforts in promoting MF on the internet. Kimi is one tough customer and, I think, a remarkable person. I think some words of encouragement would cheer her up right now. Send her an email if you have the time just letting her know we miss her around here. I know she would appreciate it. :)

Note: anyone that has a problem with sending an email to this email address let me know. Thanks.

Well, tomorrow, November 11th, is Veterans Day and as always I like to take a moment and speak about what this day means for me. As many of you know, I am a veteran of the U.S. military, having served three years as a United States Naval Reserve officer on active duty, from May, 1984-May, 1987, aboard a Navy warship home ported out of the Charleston(SC) naval base. My time in the military involved some of the most physically and mentally challenging work I have ever done. The hours were often long, the training arduous, grinding, and almost always ongoing. That said, in looking back at my life so far, I wouldn't trade any of it for the world and I consider the service to my country something I can always be very proud of. The day my father, himself a former U.S. Navy officer, swore me in on my college campus after graduation, is still one of the most memorable, and cherished, days of my life.

These are trying times for our nations armed forces right now, especially the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard, and the U.S. Marines. We are involved, like it or not, and right or wrong, in a bloody conflict in Iraq, in which our security forces are subjected to dangers from the enemy almost daily. Sometimes overlooked, I think, amidst all the political posturing in Washington and the debates about our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, are the men and women of America's armed forces, and those of other countries, who have served their countries honorably abroad, working hard and enduring extended time away from their friends and loved ones. Many of these fine men and women never make it back, unfortunately. To these fallen heroes I offer my thoughts and thanks and to those loved ones they have left behind.

One of our own members here at Monsterland Forums, josh TX, is himself a former U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq.

I hope everyone who reads this post will stop to take a moment to thank a veteran-it might be someone in your family, or a friend. It could be a simple handshake, a simple "thank you" or just a word of encouragement. There are veterans out and about right now who have been collecting donations for charities that are associated with local VFWs(Veterans Of Foreign Wars) and other veteran civic associations, including the Shriners. When you see one please donate some $ if you can-it's absolutely for a good cause!

In closing I would like to thank all those servicemen and servicewomen serving honorably for America and other respective home countries.

Note: I'm going to leave this topic thread open for a week for anyone else who may want to post their thoughts on Veterans Day. :)

The first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of Veteran's day is family- and how we are all able to enjoy our lives with our own families because brave men and women of the past and present went to war for our freedom so we could continue enjoying that freedom. Veteran's are all around us- Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Grandmas and Grandpas, the list goes on.

I had always had respect for my Grandfather's service during the Pacific theater of WWII, but it wasn't until I went to war myself in Iraq that I really understood even a shred of what Veteran's day, or being a veteran for that matter, meant. I don't think I visualized the struggle these folks before me went through, or really felt any of the blood, sweat, and tears of war until I was there myself.

My time in the Army was rough, not just for me but for many soldiers, but I don't think any of us would take it back and I believe the experience has made better people of all involved. I can't say I agree with all of our current presidential administration's tactics, but I can say Im proud of each and every servicemember, past and present, regardless of their specific duty or what war they may have been involved in. To me, any person who takes the oath and dons a uniform has done a heroic thing, and I thank you all. thumbs up

Yes, I have.

Mostly money, around $20's and one $50, I think there's still some more presents to come.

I'd like to also add a thanks to all service men and women, I sincerely appreciate everything you do for this country, during peace as well as war.

I've had a ton of family and friends serve at different times over the decades and not only do I thank and admire them, but all Veterans, so thank you, even if I am a few days late in offering my thanks.

I'd just like to say, 'Thank You, Lee'. Your post and your E-mails have been most welcome. It's been a crazy year, the move took a lot more out of me than I ever imagined as well as the settling. I think we may have the upper-hand, now and that's the best feeling.

My health has gotten worse, this year....the aches and pains have increased to the point of being almost unbearable at times and the scariest part...I think my vision is getting much worse.

BUT, I never try and dwell on the negative and it is almost Thanksgiving and then.....Christmas! Mr Green As Lee and a few other members who have been around for a while, I adore Thanskgiving and Christmas and being in a house, this year, I'm especially excited......we may have to revive that Christmas thread, Lee. ;)

Carol, my roomie, came through her surgery much better than we could have hoped for. She had none of the possible side-affects and when she went to see the surgeon, last Friday for her follow-up visit, they were all amazed at how well Carol was doing....so well, she was released to return to work, yesterday!

I'm busy trying to come up with a DVD wish list, for Christmas.....trying to whittle down my 'extreme' wants from almost 500 titles to something less overwhelming isn't easy!

I promise, I am going to try and become more active at posting, again, I thank Lee for his patience and his concern and that's why I think this is the best message board on the net, because Lee makes everyone feel needed, important to the board and makes this a fun place to visit, so thank you for that, Lee. :)

Happy Belated birthday to Matthew, too! Mr Green

Thanks for the continued support and encouragement, Lee. :)

Owning a house.....well, Dad officially owns it, but I count it as mine, too, as we are paying Dad, rent. Anyway, it's not as easy as I thought it would be. Living in apartments and such for about 21 years, I never realized how little I had to worry about or take care of! Sure, Dad takes care of the big projects, like the cost of new carpet and tile as well as power-washing of the house, but we've painted two rooms and Carol's worked her behind off in arranging the garage, so we can get the vehicles in there and I pretty much do ALL the housework. Living in apartments, there wasn't two floors to worry about, that's changed! I love our location and the fact that we pay Dad and never have to worry about late bills or anything like that, but still, it's been an adjustment to being a homeowner as compared to a renter.

I haven't heard much talk about the upcoming holidays......Thanksgiving (U.S.) or Christmas.....is anyone excited or does anyone have big plans for these days....if you celebrate the holiday or holidays, that is.

Weather, here, for the last two weeks was very Autumn-like...cool temps and kind of damp and cold, at times. This week, we're seeing a bit of a warm up, but hopefully, the temps won't climb out of the 50s. Last Friday, we had what appeared to be snow.....nothing too intense and while it was obviously not rain, it couldn't be easily identified as snow, but it just had to be snow.

One of my favorites was a particularly nasty debate that broke out over whether Destoroyah was female or genderless. The primary combatants: Biochemitra and Inferno Rodan. These two also repeated this debate at Kaiju Galaxy, a three year old message board owned by Donny Winter, aka "Eternal Mothra".

Kex, I want you to do me a favor, if you can: the next time you happen upon a member of the armed forces of your home country I'd like you to say something nice to them...or just shake their hand. Is there anyone in your own family that has served in your country's military, or security forces?

I think posting at websites has changed a lot over the last few years, especially for me. I always enjoy a good debate, but more often than not, debates turn into nasty little arguments and soon personal insults take center stage. I've found myself being more of a lurker, at some boards, but I toss in my thoughts or opinions, occasionally.

--We had a very windy and rainy night, here, last night. They are saying we could see flurries or a very light dusting of snow, over the weekend......Dad will love coming home to that! :D

--Carol worked a 12-hour overnight shift, last night, for some OT....it's been a few years since she was working nights on a steady basis and she was worried about being able to stay awake. Me, being the very kind person I am ;) , offered to stay up all might and IM her or E-mail her, throughout the night, to be sure she stayed awake. Only problem is, late-night TV is really bad! I stayed awake, but was really bored out of my mind and couldn't settle on a DVD to watch.

--Has anyone ever gotten bored with anything and everything you normally eat? Seems we have a set routine of beef, pork and chicken with the usual side-dishes and I've been hungry for something different, but can't even think of anything I am hungry for, if that makes sense.

Try mexican food. And if it still just tastes like plain old beef or chicken, keep mixing up the spices. Personally I'm a big steak fajita fan. Fry up some peppers and other veggies to go along with. noddy

I understand.

However, a "thank you" wouldn't make any sense in Sweden. There's nothing the army's actually done for us in many, many years. Nothing in particular, then, to thank them for.
