However, a "thank you" wouldn't make any sense in Sweden. There's nothing the army's actually done for us in many, many years. Nothing in particular, then, to thank them for.

I don't know much about your home country...aside from the reputation Sweden has for having a lot of beautiful women amongst its population. tongue-1

If memory serves me correct the national colors of Sweden are blue and yellow, your ice hockey team is, internationally, very good, and the Swedish Army has never been very large. I do know your home country was neutral during the Second World War.

Has anyone ever gotten bored with anything and everything you normally eat?
All the time.
"KaijuFanatic"

Seems we have a set routine of beef, pork and chicken with the usual side-dishes and I've been hungry for something different, but can't even think of anything I am hungry for, if that makes sense
Have you tried eating traditional breakfast dishes at dinner time, and vice versa? My father used to gripe on occasion(though not too often as he would risk a thump to the head tongue-1 ) to my mother that our meals at dinner time were getting a little too pedestrian. My mother would make food we normally eat at breakfast for dinner sometimes, or make all vegetable dinners, or just go through her index card files and pull out some food dish recipes she hadn't made in a while. :)

Thread drift: ...wait, this is the spam thread, there is no thread drift. Congratulations Josh on passing 400 posts. thumbs up

Apart from the fact that we basically let the German army move right through, yes, we were neutral.

We backed it up by saying that if we got attacked, we'd blow our iron mines, making any German use for Sweden quite non-existent at that time.

Well, the drought here in Atlanta, GA has showed no signs of ending. To give everyone here an indicator of how bad our rain deficit is, consider the following:

-since January of this year there have been nearly 14,000 jobs lost in the (plant)nursery and landscaping industry, in Georgia alone, because of the drought. More job losses are expected as the drought continues.

-most landscape businesses in metropolitan Atlanta have suffered, on average, a 20-25% drop in their overall plant installation and account maintenance revenues and it figures to get worse

-my crew has performed exactly one(1) plant/tree installation job since April of this year. That's just one job of this kind in the last eight months.

-the current watering restrictions here ban any outdoor watering unless it's a new plant/tree/flower install, and those watering have been warned to have documentation ready for inspection should they be challenged about their outdoor watering.

-my employer usually runs two "three man" crews under normal business conditions, with an additional man, or "floater" on occasion for larger jobs. Currently, we are running two "two man" crews", that is, we are working with two less crew laborers and the big boss(company owner) has intimated that it may be only myself and the other crew foreman working if the drought doesn't break.

-the city of Atlanta is around 18 inches below normal rainfall amounts for this year, currently. Lake Lanier, to the north of the city, is down an average of nearly 20 feet. Another popular lake in north Georgia, Lake Hartwell, is down an average of 15 feet.

-the governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue, recently attended a public prayer service where those attending prayed for rain.

-Pike Nurseries, a family owned chain of plant nursery stores just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, its owners blaming this action on the drought.

The current ten day forecast for Atlanta calls for the strong possibility of rain over the Thanksgiving weekend, next week. Long range: little rain this month, or in December, with a marginally increasing chance of rain in the early winter months of January and February, 2008.

The current computer models used to track the weather system known as "La Nina", which is what meteorologists generally blame the Southeast's drought on, may linger for another five months. thumbs down

Well, it looks like colder weather is setting in down here in Atlanta, GA. Bleh.

Anyone see that Barry Bonds was indicted on five felony counts? Four for perjury and one count for obstruction of justice. It's about time the Feds nailed this jackass for taking, knowingly taking, steroids and other illegal performing enhancing drugs.

Looking to buy another DVD player. I keep seeing DVD players described as
"Up Conversion" but still not sure what that means. shifty eyes

I don't know what to think about Bonds anymore. Maybe I really just dont care anymore and I don't even realize it.

About the DVD players what they are probably talking about is "Upscaling" which, don't quote me here, but I think has something to do with tv screen resolution. The playstation 3 site says that their system "upscales compatible dvd's" to make them as sharp and clear as possible to your screen resolution. So I guess if your tv was capable of outputting 720p the dvd player would try to "upscale" a compatible dvd to that resolution if possible.

Honestly this is new to me too and I havent really looked into it yet like I should have. But I am seeing more and more dvd players along with the PS3 that claim to do this upscale thing and from what I was told by a tech guy, it was something similar to what I said in the last paragraph, except I probably left out alot of stuff that would have explained it better. freak out

Thanks for the heads up Josh. I'm going to drop by Best Buy today after doing some yard work(leaf cleanup) and talk to a sales associate about this. Now that I have a HD television(which can produce 720p) I want to make sure I have a DVD player that can produce the best image possible. I have a budget of around $125 so hopefully I can get something decent.

Sorry to hear things on the drought front aren't improving, Lee. :(

I, quite often, eat my meals in odd order....occasionally, I will eat dinner leftovers for breakfast and breakfast meals for dinner. B) I'll keep trying to mix up the meals....wouldn't you think I;d be losing weight, if I'm bored with meals, but no such luck.

It's been snowing here, all day! Accumulating only on trees and lawns, but it is snowing. They are saying we could see 1-3 inches or perhaps as much as 2-4, by morning.

I'll be interested in hearing what you end up getting, as far as a new DVD player, Lee. I was looking at DVD players at Sam's club a couple of weeks ago, but they were Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs and priced rather high. freak out

As the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaches I'd like to take a moment to express what I'm thankful for. I would like to encourage anyone else here to post likewise. I'll leave this thread open until a day or two after the holiday. I'd like to also take the time to wish every member at Monsterland Forums a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend. Take care, all of you, and try not to indulge too much at the dinner table...if that's possible. tongue-1

Thread starter:

-I'm thankful for three good, decent and hard working men I know who I am also able to call my best friends.

-I'm thankful for the friendship, comfort and companionship of my girlfriend, Gloria.

-I'm thankful that my cat, "The Hammer", continues to refrain from using any part of my residence outside his litter box with which to answer the call of nature.

-I'm thankful that I have managed to work another year in an arduous job free of serious injury

-I'm thankful for the hospitality and kindness of my landlord, "Mrs. C", who is like a grandmother to me.

-I'm thankful for technology and the internet, without which I would never be able to communicate with everyone here at MF

-I'm thankful for the members of this message board, who take time out of their schedules to post here and at the same time, share a little bit of themselves as well, I think.

I'm not so sure I agree with all that the original Thanksgiving brought about - but I still believe its a time for me to appreciate and show thanks for what I do have.

-My family, all of whom are currently in good health

- My Girlfriend, and her family who have taken me in as a son

- My close friends who are still away in Iraq on their second tours

- My unborn child who is developing successfully and looks to be a healthy baby

- All the opportunities that have been given me so I can work and provide for my family free of illness or injury

- People who have become friends through the internet and who I can talk to in times of need.

My Internet connection here in Cambridge is terrible!
Especially when it comes to forums, they just never load, so, in a nutshell, replying to topics such as this one usually take quite a long time.

Being thankful, or expressing thankfulness about something, doesn't necessarily have to be an American tradition, does it Kex? Does your home country have any holiday like Thanksgiving? :)

I'll be interested in hearing what you end up getting, as far as a new DVD player, Lee.

I bought, at Best Buy, a Samsung Model DVD-1080P7 that was priced at $99.99 plus tax. I considered a Philips model that was on sale for $74.99 but the BB sales associate told me that Samsung has a considerably higher consumer satisfaction rating overall with its electronics. The DVD player I bought is considered one of the best machines in its price range and also the best alternative for those who don't have the $ to spend on a Blu-Ray DVD player. I need to get an HDMI cable now to connect this DVD player to my 32" HD LCD television for improved picture clarity.

Image: the Samsung Model 1080P7 R1 DVD player, which retails for $99.99 at Best Buy:
Posted Image

The goal, KImi, is to save up enough $ to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player by the summer of 2008. I will not try to go back and buy Blu-Ray discs for previously bought DVDs but simply start buying discs in Blu-Ray format after I have bought a Blu-Ray machine.

I own about 7 or 8 blu-ray discs and have been pleased with them for the most part. The picture quality in most films is noticeably better, especially action and big Special effects films where they are able to take advantage of the improved clarity. However I've noticed the biggest jump in quality, IMO, in the CGI children's movies. These films really come out looking extremely crisp and clear, with vibrant colors, on Blu-ray.

I only really have the blu-ray thing because it is a part of the PS3, and like you, Lee, I won't go back and buy films I already own on DVD. If the PS3 didnt have blu-ray playback I wouldnt be buying a blu-ray player till they came down in price, but since I have it, I can at least say I enjoy it and it does make a difference in quality.

It's going fine, I have to say I'm rather busy, so busy I had to quit my job yesterday because I didn't have enough time to do my homework. heyo
NEVERMIND! It was a terrible job anyway!

But yeah, pretty busy here, on Saturday I was doing some animation, Sunday I was editing a Radio interview, yesterday I was writing a script for a future Radio show (which I'll try to finish today), tomorrow I have to prepare a presentation, on Thursday I have to prepare another presentation, Friday will be my last day of work, and on the weekend I'll be going back home to see my family.

If you noticed, I've been away from this forum for a good 2 months, that doesn't mean I didn't visit the forum, or even try to reply to things. But this Internet connection... very angry
Luckily it's been working better lately and it actually loads the page properly.
Plus, the fact that I don't work now means I have more time to do things.
