| Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

Yes, that's right. I just completed a large DVD order with a few gifts for family and a few DVD's for myself. I'll soon post the names of these titles in the "I just got this on DVD thread." This time around I grabbed quite a few Italian zombie stinkers that I love on VHS but hadn't gotten on DVD yet. Can't wait to watch zombie splatter in widescreen. cross-eyed |

I was checking out prices on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD players at both Best Buy and Circuit City's websites. The least expensive HD-DVD player I saw listed was one priced at $199.99 plus tax, something I could afford. The least expensive Blu-Ray player I saw listed was around $350 plus tax, which would not be something I could spend right now. I wonder why there's such a disparity in price between these respective formats in these machines. confused Josh, is one format considered better than the other?

There is unfortunately no simple answer to that question Lee, and some people would argue the point till their faces turned purple. Im not big on knowing all the tech spec stuff, but I know part of the reason HD-DVD is a bit cheaper is because it has been on the market longer. Honestly it's still pretty much up in the air as to which format will succeed but some experts are predicting blu-ray for the following reasons: - Blu-ray is currently outselling HD-dvd at a rate of about 2 to 1 in the last article I saw. - Blockbuster video has announced they will only stock blu-ray, not hd-dvd in their rental stores. - In Japan, blu-ray is greatly outselling hd-dvd. As far as studios and support go, its somewhat of a mixed bag. Warner bros supports both formats, but the new rumor out is that they will go blu-ray in 2008. Universal and Paramount are currently HD-DVD exclusive, and FOX, Disney, and Sony Pictures are blu-ray exclusive. This means you currently couldnt get Transformers on blu-ray, and you couldnt get Spider-man on hd-dvd. The big deal about blu-ray is that supposedly the discs have something like 4 or 5 times the amount of storage space of a single dvd. HD-dvd apparently doesnt have this. Im not really sure how that will come into play in the future. Maybe they will be able to throw a whole season of a tv show on 1 blu-ray or something. I feel comfortable with blu-ray right now because I know it wont go under if its outselling hd-dvd. Im not worried too much about it though, because I dont buy blu-ray discs that often. But if its true about Warner, and they cut off support for HD-dvd, then Im pretty sure hd-dvd won't make it at that point, considering Warner bros. is probably the biggest studio out there and puts out a majority of the movies on the market. |

Thanks for the input regarding Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, Josh. I'll look to get a Blu-Ray DVD player during the summer months of 2008. It looks like I'll need at least $400 to buy one.

Ask me about it again around that time. If I have learned anything new or interesting about this format war that may help with a decision, I'll let you know. Also, there are specials all the time so be sure before you end up buying a player you look into that. I've seen specials where they would give you like 10 free movies with the purchase of certain Blu-Ray or HD-DVD players. |

Thanks, Josh. :) The plan, right now, is to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player in the summer of 2008 and then a 37" HD LCD TV at the end of 2008. Now that I have a 32" HD TV I've gotten the "itch" for something a little larger. ;) |

Are you happy with the 32" you picked up? I ask because I've been window shopping for a 32" or 26" for my girlfriend to upgrade from her huge heavy tube tv she has in the bedroom. The Sharp Aquos one I looked at was nice, but way too expensive. I guess I'm looking for a more decent budget priced model. I was looking at the Best Buy brand ones, Insignia, but I'm not sure how their reputation is. I may go with Samsung, because I've been pleased with every tv I have ever bought from them. Yes. I bought an Olevia 32" LCD TV for $499.99 plus tax, at Circuit City. I have seen the model I bought on sale for as low as $479.99. I have seen it regularly priced at $549.99. I looked at Best Buy but I saw nothing in the 32" size that was less than $549.99 so I opted to go to Circuit City. The brand "Olevia" is, according to sites I looked at on the internet, an up and coming brand. All of the customer reviews I saw for Olevia HD televisions were positive. That was also an influencing factor in my purchase. A 37" screen is as high as I want to go. I've given my 36" Magnavox CRT(analog) TV, a 150 lb colossus with burned out speakers and a damaged audio amp, to a local TV repair shop. That leaves me with my 32" LCD HD unit, a 30" JVC CRT flat screen/widescreen and a 27" Sharp CRT flat screen. Now that I've seen the better picture quality I want a another HD TV. I just can't help myself...I guess.

I would have thought the previous two posts, by me and Kex, would have killed your appetite for tacos, Josh, for at least a month. ![]() Addendum: I have been keeping some stats of my own on Monsterland Forums. As I expected these stats show a slow but steady pattern of growth in posting activity. Here are some numbers, posts per day average/number of posts for the month, for the last four months of 2006: Sept/2006: 527 posts/16.6 posts per day avg Oct/2006: 630 posts/20.3 posts per day avg Nov/2006: 570 posts/19 posts per day avg Dec/2006: 657 posts/21.1 posts per day avg For 2007, through November: January: 581 posts/18.7 posts per day avg February: 581 posts/20.7 posts per day avg March: 581 posts/18.7 posts per day avg April: 694 posts/22.3 posts per day avg May: 814 posts/26.2 posts per day avg June: 728 posts/24.2 posts per day avg July: 942 posts/30.3 posts per day avg August: 694 posts/22.3 posts per day avg September: 521 posts/17.3 posts per day avg October: 896 posts/28.9 posts per day avg November: 1259 posts/41.9 posts per day avg In both 2006 and 2007 September was a considerably slower month around here. |

Thanks. :) Well, I've got one Christmas "care" package to mail off to one of my best friends who now lives in Dover, Delaware. I am going to buy, as is my custom, Home Depot gift cards($50 each) for my other two friends. I never know what to get them(neither do they ) and since both are like kids in a candy store(or nowadays more like a GameStop) these cards seem like a good idea. reindeerX

It's body looked like that, but I really didnt see the Red Mark, since it ran off before I could get a better look at it. If you want to know where I found the spider, it was behind my wardrobe, I was looking back there since my Yongary DVD fell off the pile. |

If that spider was a black widow, it sounds like your Yongary dvd was trying to get you bitten. I guess this is how Yongary gets back at mankind 40 years after his death. |
