| Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community! MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

I got another raise to day. Very small one, .25 cents/hour=another $6.00 a week after tax. I will also be moving on Saturday, July 1st, into a nicely furnished basement apartment that is part of a house in a nice, upper income neighborhood. The rent is cheap, $500.00 per month(utils included) , the apartment has a den, kitchen, livingroom, one and a half baths, and an office. It has a private entrance behind the house, which I also like. I will save $220 a month in rent by moving into this place. The owner, a wealthy retired widow, has also offered to pay me to do some gardening and seasonal pruning(of shrubs) around her property, for $. This is the good. I was also assaulted by a dozen or so yellow jackets this week(and stung repeatedly). This is the bad. To add insult to injury I was also slightly bitten by a poisonous, adolescent "copperhead" snake-the snake, about two and a half feet long, launched itself out of the cover of some ivy in a large ivy bed and managed to partially bite through my work glove. I went to my employeer's workman's comp physician, who gave me a shot in the hand and provided me with an ice pack. This is the ugly. beating the admin |

Ouch, i know I have them around here, heard stories but never seen tehm. They like it around the water. I'd probably have flipped out if I was bitten by a poisonous snake, the thought creeps me out. Also, why one and a half bathes? What;s the half? |

By "half" Corey I mean that it has a sink and a toilet, but no tub or shower. My new basement apartment, which I am moving into on Saturday, July 1, has one "full" bath, a shower, sink, and toilet, and the "half" bath, which is the sink and toilet only. Regarding the snake, it was the first time I have ever been bitten by one in over eleven years in the landscaping industry. I have encountered many snakes over the years, and this copperhead, while poisonous, and out about 2.5 feet long, was still not the largest one I have come across. About two years ago, on a very large, and very woody(lots of trees) property, me and my crew members encountered a King snake(non-poisonous and not aggressive) that was well over three feet in length. I picked it up behind it's head and by the back end and placed it in a wooded area on the opposite side of the property. Lastly, regarding bees and wasps, we have been encountering many "paper" wasps, Corey, inside the canopy(the above ground part) of shrubbery, especially tree-form shrubs, that is, those that are 10 feet and taller. The last nest we came across was this past Thursday, and was the size of a volleyball. Obviously we left it alone. As a matter of courtesy to the homeowners, many of whom have small children, I always inform them(or their housekeepers if neither the Mr or Mrs. is at home) of the nest and it's location. Corey, nests like these should be handled(and destroyed) by professional exterminators, like Terminix, Orkin, or some kind of local insect pest control company. :) |

I've never encountered a poisonous snake, but I've seen many many MANY Gardner snakes, if fact I've had a pet one for 2 years. The only snake other than a gardner I've ever seen in the wild was a rubber snake, which as it's name suggests, it's very close to looking like a fake snake. As for teh bee nests, my dad takes care of them easily, he usually uses a flame thrower, but most of the time he just uses spray. :D |

In regards to effectively killing bees and wasps: Schultz-brand products(aerosol cans and sprayers). They work better than any I have seen on the market. I have seen this brand of insecticide sold at Pike Nurseries. It might be sold at other retailers, but I'm not sure which. Zep or Bengal products: a waste of your $. They only fire up the bees and wasps even more, and kill, for whatever reason, few if any of them Black Flag products: hit or miss, though I have had some success with their sprayers vs red and black wasps If you encounter a yellow jacket's nest in the ground Corey, you can also kill them by pouring gasoline into the hole. It is not necessary to light off the gasoline. I cannot emphasize that enough. Many years ago a friend of mine, attempting to rid his yard of an underground yellow jacket's nest, started a small brush fire in his yard because he lit off the hole where he poured the gas. Thankfully a neighbor put out the fire with his garden hose before the fire could spread further. The chemicals in the gasoline will kill them. This is definitely a task that, should it become a possible option for dealing with wasps, your dad should handle thumbs up |

Well, I have enough space left(characters) to make one more major addition to this site. To date I have added, which should work in IE and Firefox browsers: 1. an image-hosting option on the site 2. an "All The Web" search engine 3. scrolling info bars("Welcome" and "Announcements" at the top and "recommended sites" at the bottom) 4. a forum banner(one of five I have in my archive, which will be rotated from time to time) 5. a date and time display(based on usermember's timezone) at the bottom of the page 6. a "close" window button by the site "search engine" 7. a forum member "legend"(near the bottom) 8. an arcade(with 36 simple but fun video games)(at the top of the main page) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other modifications I have made will work with Mozilla, but not with IE6 or IE7 I would like to leave it up to the members of this site to decide-should I add a (non-skip) MP3 player or other similar music playing option, a theater for playing videos/vid clips and related files, or more utilities? Please vote. Feel free to talk about your vote, and if you have a question about something else you want to see here on this site use this thread to ask. I will close this poll at the end of August. That's in a little over a month. busy bee |

A theater would be cool. We could get all types of kaiju clips: Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, etc. I like the MP3 idea too. |

Which was why I voted for theater, as you did. I like the idea of an MP3 player as well. In my opinion the added utilities are more beneficial as a site accumulates lots of members(say 200+) and a much higher average daily post count, two things this site has neither of...yet. Mr Green |

I understand your frustration Corey, having used dialup internet service myself a while back. The installation of the "theater" on this site will be, as I have discovered, reviewing the procedure, somewhat more difficult than other modfications I have made, and add-ons I have installed, here at Monsterland. It will also be an installation that comes without tech support, as the person who created this modification does not offer any assistance in the installation of it anywhere on the internet. I will probably try to get the "theater" installed at this site sometime next month. I have an extra day or two off from work next week, and possibly the end of July. That's when I will sit down and work on it. :) |

As some of you know I will be moving on Saturday, July 1st, into a new apartment. This new locale will save me about $220 a month in rent, and afford me more space, as it has, in addition to a kitchen(full sized and not the "kitchenette" of the current studio apt. I live in), a fireplace, very private entrance, and an office with a much larger desk than the one I use now. The internet service at my current residence is very good-for an additional fee, paid per month, I have high speed wireless internet access, using an adapter(with antenna) installed on my computer to access the internet. It's been a strain to pay for(it costs me about $20/wk or $80/mo). I am not sure how I will access the internet at my new apartment. Hopefully I can secure dialup, temporarily, until I can get something more permanent like Bell South fast-access DSL or Comcast. As funds are always a little tighter for me in the summer months(I work four day work weeks starting after July 4 up until late September/early October) it may take me a little longer to get some kind of decent internet access up and running after I move into this new apartment. To that end I have asked member "Ro-Dan", Dan, to keep an eye on things here while I am gone, as I have "Kaijufanatic"and "King Joe". These three members have my thanks for doing this. Hopefully I will be offline for only a few days, or a week, but it is entirely possible that I will be offline for as long as three weeks. I considered placing this site offline, but I would like for the members that are active here to be able to continue to drop in, browse, post, or both. This site has reached thirty(30) registered members and recently eclipsed 2000 posts. I would like to congratulate and thank, everyone here who has helped to make this happen. I also thank those who have registered and not been active-registering is still appreciated by me. I will post again tomorrow afternoon before my move. Take care, all of you, and have a great summer! Thanks for the well wishes KF. I will have a large desk, and lots of wall-mounted book shelving at my disposal. The extra space will come in handy, as I am going to buy an external DVD drive for my computer(my eMachines model was a closeout 2005 model and came with only a CD drive). I will also be using my computer a little more for work-related stuff(not too much though). thumbs up |
