Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I can understand if you simply preferred working as opposed to going to school. When I was your age I knew a handful of folks who departed school for the work force, either to help their family pay bills or simply because they wanted to work and no longer felt any desire to continue their education.
How did your parents feel about you not being in school anymore? heyo

I do simple profer to work, since you get money for working hard.

I might have to pay some of the bills later on in the future, plus that my education wasnt really helping me by grade 11.

True enough. You also, Matthew, should start thinking about what you want to do for work long term.

At your age I knew people who felt the same way. Consider this: by not finishing school you immediately disqualify yourself from any job you apply for requiring a high school diploma(or equivalent certification-here in the U.S. it's called a GED).
Obviously I cannot comment on the work force in Australia since I don't live there. Here in the United States it's widely accepted that any young person not getting, at the very least their high school diploma or GED, will not be able to do much more in the work force besides the most menial of jobs, such as cleaning floors or low paying positions in the fast food industry.

Indeed, and you are to be commended for that. That said I think you'll discover, soon enough, that it's not enough. Maybe not immediately, but in time, I think you will.

My father told me to make sure and master a trade(line of work) in order that I could provide for myself financially, live on my own and pay my own way. I've done that, becoming a professional and experienced landscaper and landscaping foreman. My skills and expertise make me a commodity for my employer...or any other landscape company I may decide to consider working for in the future. You must get to this point as well, Matthew. At your age perhaps there's no great hurry, but by your early twenties I hope you are out on your own, living on your own, paying your own bills. To do these things you'll need to find that trade(of some kind) and make yourself very good at it. ;)

Matthew, while you are young, you also need to begin thinking about putting money away. It's best to start while you are young. See if you can spare putting at least 3 to 5 percent of your paycheck each time into some sort of long term savings fund. A 401K would be great, but at least a savings account or CD account would be a start. You may have (or may eventually get) a job where your employer will contribute a certain amount of money to match your contribution to savings. If you are thinking long term (you should) then this is free money later down the road when you'll need it.

My employer matches 35 cents to the dollar for up to 5% of my contribution to my 401K. For me, that ends up being a few hundred dollars per year of free money. Sure, I cant use this money until I get older, but that's the point, regardless, to save money for retirement.

Various crapola:

-despite the recent rains here in Atlanta, GA(ten out of the last fourteen days, in parts of the area) it has only very marginally affected conditions brought on by the year long drought. Precipitation here, measured over the last ten days, has range from 2-3 inches depending on the general area of metropolitan Atlanta. Lake Lanier remains about 18-19 feet below normal. What concerns me is what a climatologist recently said, who works for The Weather Channel: that Atlanta will "muddle" through another winter of drier than normal conditions, then broil under another hot and dry summer, in 2008. nonono

-after having recently purchased a 32" HD television, in September of 2007, I'm now setting my sights on getting a 37" HD TV by the summer of 2008, which will require me to set aside about $800. A 42" is just out of reach of what I can really afford.

-the excitement of buying a $300 Blu-Ray DVD player has worn off, and quickly, now that I've seen what Blu-Ray discs retail for: $25-$35 a disk. At that cost I'll be lucky if I can buy one, or two maximum, a month. cheeky sick smiley

So, it's New Year's. Anyone made resolutions? I sure did.

1: Gain weight and exercise. I'm so skinny it's ridiculous.
2: Treat my class with the respect they deserve. None whatsoever.

To answer your question: I'm a professional landscape foreman. I have been for over twelve years now.

"Gott nytt år" is Swedish for "Happy new year". Literally, it's "good new year", but whatever. You get the point.

Also: Cool. I'm not familiar with that occupation, but it sounds neat. Since I'm guessing it lacks monsters, however, it loses a few points for that. thumbs down

And yes, I have been drinking. But not much, so I can still type properly. I intend to change that in a few minutes. See ya!

Well, the year 2007 is behind us. I crunched a few numbers, regarding the posting activity of Monsterland Forums.

In 2006 this site amassed 5637 posts, which averaged 15.4 posts per day for the year.

For 2007 MF finished with 14,812 posts, 9175 posts for 2007, which averages out to 25.1 posts per day for the year.

That's an increase of nearly ten posts per day, which is tangible evidence this message board is growing. Thanks to everyone for helping make it happen! Mr Green

Last I checked, Kex, an occupation involving monsters doesn't exist. Based on that why would I lose points? heyo
