This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. I'm very sorry to hear that, Kaiju. I hope everything works out fine. I know what you're going through. Less than a month ago my father went in for heart surgery. Fortunately he's okay. I'll pray that everything goes well for your mother.

You take care!

I also hope your mother is doing better now. Can you provide an update? :)

Thanks, Lee, Mom was in the hospital a total of three times since the end of June/beginning of July! They finally diagnosed her, last week with a severe infection, but nothing related to the blood infection she suffered in February. Chances are, it will take a good month to clear this latest infection up and perhaps longer. Poor Mom suffered for days with them trying to get IVs in, her veins were so weak, they'd blow each time a line was inserted. Her arms are still a horrible mass of bruises and the last two times in the hospital, they were forced to use 'pick' lines or direct lines, where all IV meds or blood samples are taken from a line inserted directly in a vein. They either insert the 'pick' line in the groin or arm, Mom had both lines done in the arm, but the first line inserted, was removed too soon and she developed a blood clot, so inserting the second pick line wasn't so easy.

Mom's home, again and while not feeling too well, she's ever so slowly gaining and that's all we can hope for at this point, but the Dr's assure us and Mom that she will feel good, again....eventually!

More spam from the mind of Packmule:

1. I actually bought a can of Spam recently and ate the meat-it's not bad actually. I do not like it as much as balogna, but I like it better than salami. By the way, why is balogna pronounced "baloney"-or is it? How to you pronounce "balogna"?

2. Latest from the "I Could Kick Myself" dept: I recently watched a movie I had not seen in many, many years: ...All The Marbles(1981), a film directed by Robert Altman, that was showing on cable channel "Turner South". I should have recorded it onto DVD-R. The movie is about a pair of gorgeous female wrestlers, Iris and Molly(played by Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon respectively), who are managed to a title bout by their hustling, wisecracking manager Harry Sears(played by Peter Falk). An interesting movie. I do not believe it is out officially on DVD, but I wish it was. Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon are both beauties tongue-1 .

As many of you know I am relatively new to computers. My first computer was a used laptop, bought for me as a Christmas present about two years ago. After the hard drive on that laptop crashed, and after GEEK SQUAD attempted(unsuccessfully I might add) to rip me off by charging me $75 to tell me the hard drive had crashed(which I already knew), I went to Office Depot and bought an eMachines desktop for around $400. I also added a 5610 HP Officejet All-in-one copier/fax/printer(I never use the fax).

This thread is for any and all tech questions regarding computers and/or other electronics, like stereos, DVD and CD players, and other portable devices like Trios, iPods and Blackberries. Any computer/electronics questions-post them here. Got some tech advice you want to share with other members? Share it here. Announcements about these kinds of things should also go here.

Thread starter: 1. what is a "bittorrent"? shocked smiley

I know hpw you feel, I'm pretty crappy with computers, my sister and my dad are the 2 tech people in my family. I actually DO kow what a bittorrent is though, it's a popular file being downlaoded by many otehr people at the same time, which allows the file to download faster.

I am just so-so with computers, no real knowledge, just a lot of trial and error learning as well as being fortunate enough to ask some folks with great knowledge the correct questions to help me get through minor problems. One problem I have that annoys me to no end and I haven't been able to figure this out is the animated smilies on this board and a few others that no longer are animated for me. I was also using IncrediMail at one time and those animated smilies also stopped working. I have all the correct boxes checked and animations on web pages do work, but animated smilies appear to be a thing of the past for me.

I have noticed that many of the smilies and emoticons do not always display correctly and/or appear in a post correctly after being clicked. This problem was present(and still is) whenever I use Internet Explorer 7 browser. It also happened when I used Internet Explorer 6 browser. I now use Mozilla Firefox, as I have never had any problems whatsoever with either smilies or emoticons displaying correctlywith this browser. Why does this happen with one browser and not the other? I'm not sure. Many changes(mods) that I have made to this site work, that is, they display correctly after I enter the "codes" in admin cp, in both Firefox and IE6/7 browsers, while some only work with one browser, and not the other. The Invisionfree tech support staff has indicated, through it's site, in response to periodic inquiries and complaints about this, that is an HTML issue; some browsers will "accept" these "codes", that alter Invisionfree boards, while some will not. This seems to be a reasonable explanation for the problem, at least for me. That said there is not much I, or other Invisionfree site admins can do to fix it, aside from trial and error use of different smilies and emoticons, uploaded onto this site from the various sources I use.

Kimi, what browser do you use? Also, which smilies in particular do not work? Are they the yellow-colored smilies that are part of this(and all Invisionfree boards)? Or are they the various "animal" and other themed smilies I have added?

If you can provides specifics on this problem you are having I can post this as a topic at the Invisionfree site and see what kind of replies I get. :)

Lee, I use IE 6.0. Back in May, I was forced to use my recovery discs and for a couple of days, I was thrilled, all the smilies worked on all the various message boards I visit, then one afternoon a week later, we suddenly had a power outage and I'm back to smilies not working. Now, GIFs and animated adverts and such all work, but no smilies of any kind work for me at any site!

Much as I hate to sound like a pessimist the power outage you mentioned may have done some lasting damage to your computer. Maybe. The reason the hard drive on my used laptop crashed was due to a power outage, despite the fact that I was using a "surge" cube outlet to protect the machine from this very occurence. I took the Compaq laptop(mfg in 2000) to a reputable computer repair shop here in Atlanta called Martian Computers-the owner of this business told me after examing this machine that the damage was consistent with that that happens with a power outage. In fact, many of his repair jobs involve desktops and laptops with hard drive damage from power outages. By "damage" he was referring to computers that no longer worked at all or those that continued to run, albeit very poorly after the outage. In my case the cost to repair my used laptop was more than the machine itself was worth. I was offered a token amount of $ by the shop owner for the machine itself(spare parts) so I took the cash.

Have you considered downloading and using another browser? I ask because I wonder if another browser might display these smilies and other images correctly. I downloaded IE7 right after it came out, to replace the IE6 browser on my computer. I rarely use it, but I like having two browsers as options in my machine.

I will document your problem and discuss it among a handful of people I know who know computers. Maybe one of them can give me some useful info/advice. Should they I will of course relay that information to you. :)

You're probably correct. The outage came completely out of the blue...no storm was rumbling, in fact, the sun was shining and the power outage lasted about 3 seconds, but probably just long enough to mess this computer up, in spite of also using a surge protector.

I will definitely look into adding another browser.....some recommendations for a good addition?

Thanks for your offer of help, it's definitely appreciated. :)

I would recommend considering Mozilla Firefox. My page "loads" are quicker and as I mentioned before, I have never have any emoticon display issues with this browser, as opposed to the IE browsers(6 and 7). Firefox is strong from a security standpoint, the Mozilla website is always up to date, and there are many nice add-ons you can download Kimi that will nicely compliment the browser. You will see on the Mozilla website a feature called Thunderbird, a mail handling service that is Mozilla's version of MSN's "Outlook Express". Unless you really believe you need this I WOULD NOT download Thunderbird. For me, someone with a Yahoo, MSN, and Gmail address, "Thunderbird" is not needed. To be honest I have never cared much for Outlook Express either, hence why I have never used it. Look over the Mozilla website carefully Kimi-I recommend you download the latest Mozilla browser and "Faster Fox", a feature that claims(and does a little) speed up the Firefox browser.
Here is Mozilla's website: The Mozilla Project

If memory serves me correct about 70% of all people online use an IE browser, 20% use Mozilla, and the other 10% use Opera, Netscape, or some other browser

I have spoken with one of the individuals I know that is familiar with computers-he runs a small computer repair business out of his basement as a PT job. His opinion on your computer problem: it probably is related to the power outage. Without knowing the kind of computer you have, it's age, and your operating system, he could not be more specific. If you can let me know these things about your computer I can run this by him again. Just a thought. :)

Before you say ANYTHING in this topic, remember I'd like to have this topic stay serious.

My story: 2 years ago, during a sumemr vacation, i began to feel extremely ill, mainly all in my stomach. After getting home, the doctor was called and i was brougth in for a checkup, i was sent to a hostpital to have my stomach examined, very soon i was told i had Crohn's disease, and incurable disease that attacks the stoamch, bowels, and throat and sometimes more for the less fourtunate people. Now, before you go saying how horrible it may sound, it isnt' all that bad, I infourtunate to have a disease, but fourtunate to have such a "weak" disease. Because it can not be cured, it's handled and put down to ease with monthly to yearly IV's of remicade (the medicine i was given) along with 1 pill a day. To make matters worse, a year after I was diagnosed with crohn's, I was taken in to chekc if I had TB, very soon, I was also told i had proved positive for TB, not meaning I had it but meaning I had be somewhere near a person with TB. I'm a VERY sensative person, I cathc every little cold or virus but I can deal with ANYTHING that comes my way.

Share your sickness's if you have them or you can even tell about any relatives you haev who has come across a sickness.

First off thanks for sharing that information about your medical condition Corey.

Mine: I have gout, a condition in which elevated uric acid levels in the blood crytallize, resulting in inflammation(and often severe pain) in the joints, most often in the feet or big toes, though I had an attack once in my elbow. Gout cannot be cured but can be controlled/treated with medication, dietary changes, and increased intake of water(helps the kidneys get rid of more uric acid from the body).
I also have, on occasion(though not frequently) acid reflux, in which excess stomach acid manages to move up part of the esophagus(usually while sleeping)-this can damage the esophagus. I have permanent(though benign) scar tissue on my vocal chords from previous(and more severe) acid reflux. Now, I take(when needed) Prilosdec OTC.

About 11 years ago, I was working 6 and 7 days a week on second shift and usually 10+ hours per day. In August, I got done working one Saturday and felt horrible and as we had Sunday off that week, I thought I'd begin feeling better, but instead became much worse. I landed in the hospital with pneumonia, but didn't get feeling any better and after a ton of tests, it was discovered I had Lupus. Shortly after the Lupus diagnosis, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. In less than three months after the diabetes diagnosis, I was on huge amounts of insulin. Then in the Autumn of '97, I became very ill with constant vomiting and wasn't able to hold anything down for months. Finally in September of '98, I had severe chest pains and a heart cath was performed, thankfully, nothing serious came of that. My final diagnosis of illnesses include:

-Lupus
-Insulin Dependent Diabetic
-Rheumatoid Arthritis
-Restrictive Lung Disease
-Headaches 24/7/365.....for the past 7 years!

I'm also being checked for hip problems that have made sitting, walking, sleeping and standing almost impossible, because of the pain. This problem could be a result of hip problems first diagnosed as a baby, simply rearing its ugly head. After almost 15 years of working at the same company, I was no longer able to continue because of my health issues and in '99/'00, I was placed on permanent Social Security disability. Certainly not enjoyable, when you're used to a nice, steady paycheck, but at least I am able to survive on the monthly checks and as for my illnesses, I'm much better off than some people I know.

Very sorry to hear of the health issues my fellow board members are suffering with, hope you all have more good days than bad. :)

Believe me Corey, this topic should, and will, stay serious. As the admin of this site you, and anyone else choosing to share their medical woes in this thread, can absolutely count on it. I am indeed sorry that you must endure your condition, as I am for kaijufanatic, who must endure hers. Understand that I am not saying that I pity either of you, because I don't. Both you and Kimi(Kaijufanatic) are facing your conditions with dignity, class, determination and the will to continue on with life, which I think is exactly what we, as human beings are supposed to do. I thank you both for sharing your experience, and wish you both luck, and good health, always. :)

I didn't mean that in this forum, i know that everyone here would keep it serious, i originally posted this at TK though, and that place is a different story.

EDIT: Srry Lee, I by accidently edited your post.

No problem with the accidental editing Corey. I have made the same mistake a few times myself at the Planet X discussion forums.

I will not bad mouth other discussion sites but as to posting a topic like this at Toho Kingdom, I will say this: as TK has such a large member base you are going to have plenty of people who will treat a topic such as this one with respect, and you will also have, sadly, many who don't. nonono

 I share the EXACT same phobia!

And this phobia was indeed realized today by another trip to Best Buy. The trip itslf is okay, it's what happens inside that is hellish. No Space Amoeba or Garuda in stock. The 2-disc SE DVD of Grizzly(1976) is no longer carried by Best Buy, despite the image, and line item info of this title, still in this store's floor computer terminal. The Ultraman BCI DVD is carried by Best Buy, but was not in stock. I am guessing it's because, as I was informed by the sales clerk, they carry only one(1) copy in the store at any given time, and when it sells, it is replaced the following week, or the week after that, meaning that this store(and presumably all the other Best Buys since the clerk said they all stock the same way) sells one copy of the Ultraman BCI DVD a week, not because the title is unpopular, but because this company, in it's infinite wisdom, will not supply it's stores with more than one copy per week. The same sales clerk also essentially implied that this was also the case with Space Amoeba. After congratulating the clerk and her co-worker on her company's marketing strategy for such a popular classic TV show I left, before I would have the chance to really lose my temper. very angry

And retail stores wonder why their sales numbers are down so much?! <_< I totally believe what you were told by the employee! I swear, so many times we make the hour-long trip to Best Buy and I spend an hour searching for various titles and when I give up and seek out the help of an associate....time and time again I'm told they don't have it in stock, but it can be special ordered! I always tell them, 'Thanks, but no thanks, I may as well have stayed home and orderde it online!'. I'm never rude, but I think my displeasure is quite obvious! Another complaint I have is they never have the items in the genre area I would expect! I'm sorry, but I usually think of any Godzilla film as sci-fi, but the various films have been located in Anime, Action/Adventure and even Drama. I can rarely walk into Best Buy or amny other retail stores and simply grab a DVD and run, it's either not where I think it would be or it's simply not in stock.

Your complaints all sound familiar to me. I have to be careful when I am in the particular Best Buy I go to about every 2-3 weeks. The reason: about three(3) months ago I was involved in an incident with a Hispanic man and his son in this store. To make a long story short the Hispanic guy(who spoke good English), a man in his thirties(?) was allowing his teenage son to yell, scream, and sing into one of those karioke-style microphones in the electronics department. It was a major distraction and annoyance to many shoppers, including myself. I was amazed and disgusted that no one, not a sales associate or a manager, said anything to the boy(an 15-16 year old kid). Hs father sure didn't seem to give a damn, and you can be sure that I did not travel to that Best Buy store that day to listen to a kid scream and holler into a microphone that blared throughout the store this kid's rendition of a favorite song. When no one took action after about ten minutes of this bullsh*t I went over to the kid and asked him to stop. The kid ignored me so I removed, forcefully I might add, the microphone from the boy's hands. His father decided to say something derogatory to me. I informed the father that it would be in his best interest, and his son's, if they both left, before I became really angry. The father reported me to a clerk-I likewise reported this asshole to a manager-he asked me to step outside, presumably to settle this argument with our fists. I obliged him, eagerly. When I got outside he had already jumped in his truck and was driving off. I guess he decided getting the hell beaten out of him in front of his own son was not a desirable thing on his "to do" list for that day. Shoot, even during my last visit to Best Buy I had two different people stop directly in front of me as I am looking over DVD titles, without an "excuse me" or anything. I told one of the morons who stepped in front of me(just to look) not to do that again. He said nothing and moved off. I have also had to avoid kids who run rampant in the aisles. I spoke at length with the Best Buy store manager about the incident with the Latino-he informed me that, while he could empathize with my position, I was also partly to blame for the incident. I informed the manager that I was doing what his employees should have doing all along-stopping the kid from tampering with or abusing store merchandise. The manager would not reply to my repeated question as to why no store employee took any action to stop the karioke kid to begin with. I suspect he knew he, and his associates, dropped the ball. If you can get someone in retail to admit they made a mistake(especially a store manager) Kimi then let me know how you do it, because so far I have never accomplished this. Now, whenever I am in this Best Buy, I get a few prolonged looks from of the associates that work there. No doubt they are keeping an eye on me. Whatever. <_<

One thing I am afraid of is my little sister getting boyfriends. The reason is because I before she had a boyfriend that I really hated and now she has some other boyfriend. I sorta trust this one but it still scares me that he may hurt her or something. I doubt he would though.

I understand. If you ever do think that this "boyfriend" you mentioned might hurt your sister then you know you must let your parents know about this at once. Of course if you ever saw this guy hurt your sister you would want to do the same thing-tell your parents. I'm sorry to hear that you did not like the other "boyfriend" of your sister. I hope things work out better this time pal. Talk to your parents when you feel afraid about these kinds of things-my parents were always there for me to talk to when I was your age, as I'm sure yours are for you. If you ever want to talk to me about this by PM, or anything bothering you, never hesitate to email me or PM me. We are all friends here at this site my young friend. :)
