Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

"People" is a pretty broad term, Kex. I'm assuming you're not referring to all people. ?

A person is smart, people are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. (Men in Black kicks ass!)

Yelling at kids is different from yelling at people, because kids and people are two separate categories to me.

And now to something completely different. Gudrun the Golden:

http://www.seanbaby.com/hostess/v2thor02.htm

First off, if you actually had the honor of seeing one of the Hostess snack ads in a DC/Marvel comic book in the comic book's own age, I envy you. I have only recently seen these in scans of Spider-Man comics. They're amusing gems, and like most comics, reading them today makes us realize they never made sense anyway.

Gudrun the Golden here is a frightening villain. He is likely intended to be a minor god in the Marvel Comics version of Norse mythology, which Sweden used to practice. Either Aesir or Vanir, one of the two groups of major and minor gods in that faith. I may not be religious, and this may be a dead religion anyway, but I feel almost insulted by this guy. Not his attitude. He acted much like most vikings would have (apart from treasuring candy more than gold). It's not his looks. They got that part pretty neatly and had he been put in a schoolbook on the Aesir, I would probably not react.

It's his name. Yes, Scandinavians have long been named Gudrun. It's growing increasingly uncommon, but it happens. My problem is simple.

IT'S A FEMALE NAME. HOW DID THEY MISS THAT? HOW CAN THEY MISS THAT? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? I WANT THESE PEOPLE TO EXPLODE FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

That will be all.

Speak for yourself. By your logic if I'm in a group of people where many start to do something unlawful I would automatically follow suit. Wrong. I wouldn't. That blows your statement out of the water...if just one person in the group does something contrary to the others.

Thread drift: I like your current MSN Messenger name by the way: based on a pastry treat. Nice. tongue-1

Person: Individual with an identity and a brain.
People: The average human, disappointingly and admittedly stupid.

I know I may be wrong, but generally, this is an easy pattern. I have made few friends with this philosophy, but that's simply how I am. If that offends anyone, it is unfortunate, but I am in no position or motivation to change that.

Unfortunately, it is actually the French word for Lightning. The pastry treat thing is something I found out later, and it is very funny.

Usually, the latter is more annoying than the former. And yes, I know I am a frustrating and bitter and depressingly angry person. In fact, today is one of my happiest days ever. I'm just not good at showing that.

I don't mind Thor. It's a decent comic. They did sort of butcher the (Removed for the younger audience) out of a religion, but it's decent. I don't like, however, how they didn't even seem to bother checking the gender of the name when they chose to create an original character based on that mythos. Had his name been Erik, Dag, Olav, Magne, Odd, Gunvald or anything, I wouldn't mind. They picked a feminine name for no reason whatsoever. This confuses and irritates me.

But ya, while Thor is a decent comic, it does their faith as much justice as Battle-Pope does Christianity.

I understand your disdain for the group collective, Kex. I also understand what you were alluding to in the movie Men In Black(1997). I agree with your statement, but only to a point. I just cannot put such a wide label on a group of people like that...be it a good label or a bad one.

Not surprising, and I say that with no disrespect intended.

You may believe you do not have it in you to change. Many I'm sure feel similarly as you do. To me changing yourself is a state of mind. I also believe if a person endeavors to change his/her behavior and attitudes/opinions he/she must do so gradually, and with realistic expectations about it.

I'll say this Kex: if you don't change your outlook on people in general then I think it likely you will go through life alone and completely miserable. Obviously I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

I have a habit of assuming the worst. That pessimism, in essence, is my personality, and there is little I can do (I HAVE tried) to change that.

If I change my view on things, I will attract a different kind of friends than now. I rather like the ones I have, and wouldn't trade them for anything, least of all the annoying and unified people I so long have avoided. I do not hold it against anyone for being cheery, though. Several of my friends are very positive people.

I'm not at all bothered with going through life lonely. It is how it started, it is how it's been. I'm used to it, so I don't mind going on with it. I'm not completely alone in this big, green bowling ball. I have a girlfriend, for example. (One who I intend to show some certain movies in the near future)

I often feel miserable. It has, for me, no relation to being lonely.

All the consequences of my own inability to act.

Okay. Here's how it looks to breakdown to me:

-the consequences of your perceived inability to act = make you miserable, at least most of the time

-you, presumably, do not like being miserable. I'm assuming you don't as I would most people and creatures...the only exception I can think of being Oscar The Grouch...and Simon Cowell.

-you not being miserable = necessity to work at acting to effect change

acting to effect change in yourself = no more consequences from not acting which = you being happier, to some degree, about life in general

I've been something of a pessimist my entire life, Kex. Anyone that knows me well would tell you the same thing about me. The thing is, I don't want to allow myself to descend too far into it-things like complete hopelessness and despair are commonly associated with this kind of pessimism. Some people might even refer to it as depression.

What I do to keep from backsliding:

-stay employed. It makes me feel useful and obviously pays the bills. I found long ago that I like being occupied and feeling a sense of accomplishment, something I've been able to feel, at times, in my line of work.

-stay connected with those things in life, however major or minor, that bring you some pleasure and joy in life. For me that's my girlfriend and my DVD collection. It's also, to some extent, this message board, which affords me some means of connecting with those who share similar interests.

-exercise. Finding time to do it everyday, in some way shape for form.

-having at least one or two close friends, people I can talk to face to face sometimes.

That's it.

Okay. I don't own a VHS player anymore so I'm just trying to get them into the hands of someone who will watch them.

Some other VHS titles I have you might want:

Creature From Black Lake(1976), in widescreen. A low budget horror film starring Jack Elam. It's a monster movie, the creature a backwoods swamp monster similar to "Bigfoot".

Godzilla(1998), in widescreen.

There aren't any online trailers for Creature From Black Lake(1976) but here's a brief review of the movie:

I read an internet article today at Yahoo that a high ranking U.S. Army General has recommended to the U.S. Senate Armed Service Committee that the lengths of tours of U.S. Army personnel serving in Iraq be shortened from an average of 15 months to 12 months because of the strain on the army and also because of the cumulative stress of combat duty on American military personnel.

Josh, what are your thoughts on this? heyo

I can't think much about this war without getting a disgusting taste in my mouth, but honestly, the tours never should have extended over 12 months to begin with. In my personal opinion they never should have extended beyond 6. Alot of things can happen in 12 or 15 months, if you come back alive you could find your young children had forgotten who you were, the dog growls at you now and you have just generally forgotten how to co-exist amongst civilians. And the DA wonders why vets are so detached?

I never thought about those things but certainly they could all very well happen, and unfortunately probably do happen with many of our vets.

Would you say your experience in Iraq changed you in any negative ways or in other ways you generally don't like? If you're not comfortable answering this question I would understand. Not trying to be nosy here, by the way. :)

I was lucky over there, I was able to generally hold on to my sanity and while I saw and was involved in a few things I wish I hadn't been, my time over there was generally smooth in comparison to a few comrades who had been injured multiple times. Back in the United States, I noticed some negatives and positives, on one hand I felt alot wiser and more knowledgeable. Nothing going on in the US felt too important anymore. On the other hand I think I felt a bit scarred and lacking any inocence I might have had left. I sometimes felt, and still feel, bitter in many regards and detached from a normal social life. Trying to maintain an optimistic attitude, I try to remain thankful that I got back in one piece and finished my time in service.
