There's a reason you have heard good things about the 80's TV series The Equalizer: it's very good. The series ran from 1985 until 1989. Edward Woodward missed some episodes, I believe, because he suffered a heart attack. There were 88 episodes all total. You can buy this TV series in DVD(22 discs-88 episodes) for about $220. There are numerous internet locations that offer this series for sale. It;'s pricey, I know, but I think you would enjoy it. This series has a nice blend of suspense, drama, intrique, and of course violence. Through it all Edward Woodward is masterful as ex-government agent "Robert McCall". thumbs up |

Ouch! That is pricey, but for a good series, it's always worth it. Is this release only available as an entire series collection or can it be purchased as indivdual seasons, Lee? I seem to recall my Dad being a big fan of this series, we well. |

So far I have only seen The Equalizer(1985-1989) TV series, which ran on CBS, offered for sale as a set(all four seasons). Image: the four disc set of The Equalizer television series. Very cool, I might add. thumbs up |

Deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit and bear. I know as a kid, Dad got a deer every year and that extra meat would supplement our meals for an entire year. Dad also made a mean rabbit and squirrel stew, too. One year, we had his wild turkey next to our regular Thanksgiving turkey, as well. When I was a kid, they even taught hunter saftey courses in elementary school! Hunting was and is a very big thing in these parts, as lots of folks do supplement their groceries with game meat. I can remember as a kid, Dad going out and hunting hard any day he was out there, he'd be gone before we got up and get home after dark. It's funny, as a lot of folks look at my Dad now and can't believe he was such an avid hunter and fisherman. Dad's daytime job back then was a chemist and so 99% of the time, he was in a lab coat and such, but when hunting season rolled around, Dad, Granddad and my Uncles were serious about bringing home the bacon, so to speak. :) |

Well, Friday was the day Mom, Carol and I began our lawn sale and as my luck would have it, I began suffering on Wednesday with such a toothache that by Friday, I was in tears. Now, I know, often women are thought to be a little wimpy and easy to cry when it comes to pain, but I think I handle and deal with my pain better than most, because I am in pain with my various illnesses, 24 hours/day and 365 days/year. Being on SS disability and Medicare, dental care ins't included and that leaves me few options for getting dental help. Carol called her dentist's office and they quoted her $58 for an x-ray/exam and $99 for an extraction, IF they are able to extract the tooth. Well, I didn't feel I could really afford that on Friday and so I was going to wait until my next payday, which would be 03 October. Yesterday on the final day of the lawn sale, my Dad stopped by and put $160 in my hand, so I could go to this dentist! What a great guy! I called this AM and Mom took me down at 11:45AM for my x-ray/exam. The dentist came in and said I must be in horrible pain, as the tooth is so infected, the infection has gone into my jawbone and sinuses. He said that he could pull it, but we have to clear this infection up, so he prescribed antibiotics and pain meds and I go back on Friday to see if he can extract it, then. THEN, he asked me if I had insurance and I explained I'm on disability and Medicare, which he knows doesn't include dental and asked about a prescription plan, I said I was on a prescription drug program though Medicare and he then said he wasn't charging me for the exam and if they charged me out fromt, to let him know and he jokingly shook his fist....they charged me just $13! :) If you look into the 'Phobias' forum, you'll see dentists are on my list, but this guy was incredible and in spite of already being nervous about Friday's visit, I can't say enough good about this guy. thumbs up

Your father sounds like an interesting guy. I have been on a few hunts, that were a combination of hunting and fishing. I have never pulled the trigger on any animal Kimi. I cannot justify the killing of any animal for sport, but I would make an exception if it were in self-defense, say shooting a rabid animal that attacks, or for food. I am aware that many individuals, and families, rely on game meat, e.g. deer or rabbit, to supplement, as you mention, their regular supply of groceries and other consumables, and I have absolutely no problem with this. I always enjoyed fishing more to be honest-trout fishing. I have also been on two deep sea fishing trips, once in 1984, off Sanibel Island, FL(Gulf Coast), and out of Panama City Beach, FL, in 1987. Deep sea fishing is what I enjoy most. I do like to hike a couple of times a year as well, in North Georgia. |

The thing is, through a charity in this area that helps folks without dental plans, I had work done in March and this tooth was quite bad, then, but the dentist I was seeing refused to have this tooth extracted, she wanted to save it for use with a partial she wants to make me. I tried explaining to her that I could only see her as long as the funding held out with this charity, which she works with. I went back in July for a cleaning and explained to the dentist that the tooth had actually broken off and was causing me a lot of discomfort and she looked at it before the cleaning and still refused to have it pulled! By mid-July, the funding had dried up for the dental work and here I was without any help. To say I'm less than pleased with the first dentist is a vast understatement, I feel a lot of this infection and pain could have been avoided, had she not been so hell-bent on saving this one tooth. Even her hygentist told me in July that the tooth was bound to cause me problems and should have been extracted. I am extremely grateful for the price break this dentist gave me, yesterday. If at all possible, I hope to set up an account with him. He seems much more inclined to listen and understands my insurance situation. |

Thanks, my Dad really is an interesting guy. He's intelligent, has a great sense of humor and is an all-around great person. I certainly don't think anything should be killed just for the sport of it or to hang a trophy on your wall, but as you said, many people do supplement their groceries with game and my family did that all the while I was gorwing up. We ate whatever was hunted....deer, turkey, rabbit and squirrel as well as any fish that were caught. All my family had gardens and Mom canned and froze everything she could from our garden and anything that was purchased, fresh from other gardens, it was just a way of life for my folks when they were growing up and it carried over into their adult lives. Mom is an interesting individual as well, guess I'm proud of my parents and grandparents for all their accomplishments. :) I've never been deep-sea fishing, but some of my family has done that and very much enjoys it. Have you ever caught something while deep-sea fishing? I hear some of those fish can put up quite a fight! |

Are many of your discs still on backorder? I have to say, this isn't anything I've encountered with Deep Discount DVD as a rule, but I also had some backordered titles back in May, I believe it was, when they had a huge sale of titles for only $5.99. |

Mackerel mostly. Indeed, some fish can, and do put up a fight, and the fisherman doesn't always win. No one on either deep sea fishing charter I was on caught anything really huge, though one guy reeled in a five-foot shark. I doubt, Kimi, that I could have handled anything really big had I hooked into it, as I was regularly inebriated on both excursions. My mother was quite the hunter as well, though not necessarily by design. She confiscated a .38 revolver from my older brother, who'd won the weapon in a card game and tried, unsuccessfully, to sneak it into the house. Later she began using it to pick off squirrels and other small critters(voles, chipmunks and even a couple of opossums) that attempted to eat the tomatos in her vegetable garden. About twice a week we would awaken to gunshots, my mom blasting away at the small animals that raided her large vegetable garden. My father had many arguments with her over the use of the gun-eventually my mother gave the gun back to my older brother, on the condition he never bring it back into the house. He complied. My mother resumed her war on the local woodland critters shortly thereafter, with a high powered BB gun bought by my father.

After losing my $290 DVD recorder to a power surge via a close lightning strike to my residence my latest phobia seems to be having every other electronic device I own having the same fate. I unplug everything now from the walls before departing for work, even if the day's weather forecast calls for no thunderstorms of any kind. crazy I also had the speakers in my 36" stereo TV blow out, presumably from the same strike, though all the other(non-audio) functions on this TV work normally. I found a place that sells parts and am going to order refurbished replacement speakers for this television this weekend, for about $25(incl shipping). This seems better than the alternative: taking the television to the repair shop and paying $200 or more to have it repaired(the fee just to have the TV looked at is $60[non-refundable]) and the minimum labor charge is $75.

Ouch! :( Sure sorry to hear about that power surge frying up electroncis and such, but I know how you feel. Back in May of 2000, I was living with my one brother and his family while awaiting my disability outcome and my brother and his wife were kind enough to give up their masterbedroom suite, which was very large....there was a room I actually used as my 'livingroom', one as a bedroom and a great full bath. My first full weekend living with them, we had a very nasty storm and my one and only DVD player was fried with a power surge. It cost me $100 to have it repaired......money I didn't have, but Mom was sweet enough to loan me, so I could have some form of entertainment in my area of the house. I also fret and worry about lightning strikes and power surges, among other things, as a result of that happening. Sounds like you're getting a much better deal in ordering refurbished speakers and I wish you lots of luck with the repairs. :) |

Well, I have my second appointment with the new dentist, tomorrow and with any luck, the infection has cleared up enough for the tooth to be extracted. I think the infection is clearing up and I just want this over with.....I'm nervous and dreading the procedure, but the appointment is at 9:45AM, so not a whole lot of time to sit around and worry, come morning!

Good luck Kimi. I hope all goes well at the dentist office. The only thing I ever liked about going to the dentist was the sensation I felt after receiving general anesthesia(many years ago, after having several "extra" teeth[I was born with] pulled). Upon awakening from the procedure I felt very relaxed, almost like a drunkard might feel after consuming too much whiskey or other liquor. I inquired about the possibility of taking some of their anethesiatic drugs home with me. Not surprisingly my request was turned down. Take care Kimi. It sounds like the dentist will take good care of you. thumbs up |

Thanks, Lee. The deed is done and it wasn't as easy as I;d hoped, but it wasn't a horrible experience, either. Mom got me there about 30 minutes early and we sat there for an hour and Mom went up and asked if they'd forgotten I was out there! She was nice about it, but I was embarrassed! They took me back, checked the tooth to make sure the infection was clearing up enough to pull the tooth, which, thankfully it was and then they numbed me up. The dentist used a gel substance first, which surprisingly, did numb the gum area enough that the novacaine jabs weren't too bad. They waited about 10 minutes to be sure I was numb and then the digging and such, began. The tooth was actually split in half, which the dentist said he could see why the tooth was so painful before it became infected and I am still scratching my head as to why the other dentist was so hell-bent on saving that one tooth! Anyway, now, contrary to popular belief, I have a small mouth, so the dentist had to try several instrument sizes before he could get the right size pliers(?) to rip the tooth out. Naturally, my tooth wasn't too cooperative and didn't want to loosen up and come out, so the poor dentist was trying to twist and wiggle the tooth for a while, as he wanted to get it out in one piece. FINALLY, the beastly thing popped out and by that time, the dentist was huffing and puffing from the effort and I was shaking like a leaf! The jaw and surrounding gum was and is quite sore and I'm very swollen, today, but the antibiotics are working and the pain meds are at least making the pain bearable, so all is well! :)

I am definitely going to make contact with this office, again and see if they'd be willing to take me on as a new patient and see if we can work out some sort of payment plan, where I have one thing done, pay for that and then have something else done and pay for that....where they never do too much work at once that makes paying off a bill damn near impossible. The guy seems really nice and understanding and I think he may be willing to work with me, this way. :) |

:) If you look into the 'Phobias' forum, you'll see dentists are on my list, but this guy was incredible and in spite of already being nervous about Friday's visit, I can't say enough good about this guy. thumbs up
