We ring in the new millenium with a new Godzilla, the first of the Millenium G films. Discuss Godzilla 2000 Millenium here.

Eh, its sub-par. Orga is kinda cool, and the new Goji design is cool, but overall it was only OK.

What's your guys fav. Millenium flick?

I gotta say Godzilla X Megaguirus. Very fun, Megs kicks ass, and the DT is the coolest machine in the Toho universe.

My favorite is Godzilla x Mechagodzilla. I like the overall "feel" of this movie, and the fact that MechaG is the "good guy" character. I also liked the character Akane Yoshiro(played by Yumiko Shaku), who overcomes her guilt ( from causing the accidental deaths of comrades while battling Godzilla) with a steady determination and shows tremendous bravery fighting "Kiryu"(MechaG) manually against Godzilla at the film's climax. The fact that Yumiko Shaku is beautiful doesn't hurt either tongue-1 .

Indeed. Although I was very happy to see Godzilla return after his "death" in '95 I found this movie to be a bit uneven. Thumbs up: 1. The new Godzilla design, especially the spikes on his back and his facial features 2. Godzilla's entrance scene in this movie-IMO outstanding(though probably not from the lighthouse keeper's perspective tongue-1 ) 3. Katagiri-I think every G film needs a good villain and this guy sure doesn't disappoint-what a prick! Thumbs down: 1. the music score-seemed a little bland to me, especially with this being G's return after a hiatus of four years 2. Orga-though IMO not the worst kaiju rendering in a G film it comes pretty close-I did like the last tactic the creature tried to employ against G in the climactic battle, i.e. trying to swallow Godzilla whole Overall: still for me a welcome and solid overall entry in the Godzilla film archives!

That one is also my favorite Mill. film, closely followed by Godzilla: Final Wars.

Tough to place them, but I'll give it a shot and mind you, it could change, slightly, given a fresh viewing or mood change. ;)

01) Godzilla vs Megaguirus
02) GMK
03) Godzilla: Tokyo SOS
04) Godzilla: Final Wars
05) Godzilla 2000
06) Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla

I notice GMK(2001) a little farther down on your list. I thought the special effects for this film outshined the other "Millenium" movies, but the characters were more stale, which was why it didn't rate tops with me-I am definitely into the effects, but the characters are still most important to me in these movies-what was it about GMK that dropped it down on your list Ghost? :)

I actually thought GMK had stronger characters than in any of Tezuka's films. The characters of Tokyo: SOS, Megaguirus, and Mechagodzilla were all military types that were virtually indistinguishable from film to film.

I think G2000 actually had the most interesting characters: Katagiri, Shinoda, his daughter Io, Miyasaka, and that reporter chick.

Katagiri is certainly I think the most despicable "bad-guy" bureaucrat of these films, and arguably the entire series. In Packmule's opinion this guy helped "drive" G2K along very well-he was also IMO an egomanical, power-hungry cretin.

You gotta love Katagiri's voice in the dubbed version of G2K. Way over-the-top.
