You gotta love Katagiri's voice in the dubbed version of G2K. Way over-the-top.

Yep, good stuff. Although, I like that "Xilian Kid" more.

Both dubbed voices had their own distinct styles-Katagiri's voice obviously sounded deeper, like that of an older guy. The Xilalien kid sounded very bratty, like a teenagar who has just finished growing out of puberty. Both were, IMO, appropriate to each respective character, Katagiri the crass and pompous bureaucrat, and the Xialien an interstellar punk.

I notice GMK(2001) a little farther down on your list. I thought the special effects for this film outshined the other "Millenium" movies, but the characters were more stale, which was why it didn't rate tops with me-I am definitely into the effects, but the characters are still most important to me in these movies-what was it about GMK that dropped it down on your list Ghost? :)

I was amazed by GMK when I first saw it, but im afraid ive overwatched the film (seen it around 20 times) and its just boring for me.

Its really good, its just the other millenium films I haven't watched that much, so I at least have some will to watch them.

I think I wait 4-5 mothes before I watch GMK again, it'll probably be up at the #2 or 3 spot by then.

Sometimes I am guilty of "over watching" films as well, but with my general dissatisfaction with TV programming overall thumbs down it's hard not to turn on the DVD player and fall back on all of my favorite kaiju movies. If I am able to stay busy with other things in my weekly routine then I am okay, but if not, I end up watching these movies so much that I end up counting monsters to try and drift off to sleep, rather than sheep crazy

I haven't seen this film since its first VHS release back in... well, whenever it was released.

I remember my dad not liking it as much as that horrid GODZILLA 98' (my dad is a SPFX freak and he has low standards for most action films) and I remeber liking the film, but I don't remember any of it at all!

It is such a blur to me at the moment, I really need to buy that $10.00 DVD, I just can't find it anywere, except Sun Coast, but that is at the mall, and I always end up spending all my cash before I go there <_<

The DVD of this film is out there, though I admit I haven't seen copies of it lately at Circuit City or Suncoast. thumbs down

I'm surprised your father likes the '98 Godzilla better than G2K  , but to each his own. The contempt for the 1998 Godzilla seems to know no limits, as evidenced by the recent commercial that has been playing, in which GINO is munching on tacos. Not a very flattering advertisement, for GINO, or the tacos. tongue-1

I happened to see G2K in a movie theater back in the summer of 2000 during it's limited theatrical release here in the U.S. -I was on vacation that week and watched it twice. The sound effects were great. bravo clap

My dad used to love watching the older Godzilla and Gamera films as a child.
He told me that a few of them were shown back to back on saturdays...

Anyway...my dad doesn't like the newer Godzilla films because he thinks that Godzilla should be all CGI... he did enjoy GFW because he got to see all of the kaiju he saw as a child with updated apperances.

I would hate to have Godzilla done as CGI, I think it would ruin Godzilla... as in, the films would never be the same.

I like Suits over CGI because it looks more real because there is actually something there, not a pasted on animated image

If your dad likes CGI monsters, has he seen Reptilian(aka Yongary 2000(2000)? It is a remake of the 1967 "Yongary Monster Of The Deep" film. Yongary, and his opponent monster, Cyker, are completely CGI. It's not bad actually, and has some interesting visuals.

I also think your dad might like the new all CGI monster film coming soon called Negadon The Monster From Mars.

I am agreement with you about CGI and kaiju. I would rather see suitmation, with integrated shots of CGI to render Godzilla and other giant Toho monsters.

For anyone interested there is a Region 3/NTSC DVD of Godzilla 2000 Millenium(1999) at DDDHouse.com. It is very reasonably priced(at just over $5) and includes english subtitles and a 5.1 audio mix. I am going to get this DVD in November because I do not like the english dubbing of my DVD of this film(the Sony/Tri-Star version)

The link: DDDhouse.com-"Godzilla 2000" DVD

I may try and pick this one up in January, if the price is still so reasonable and it's still available. I'm also not a fan of the dubbing on the R1 release.

Neither am I, which is the primary reason I am going to order this one this weekend. The english dubbing for the version I have(the Sony/Tri-Star) is IMO lousy-many of the translations are ludricous. Recall the one where the military official describes the new missile, to be used against Godzilla, as being so hard that it would go through Godzilla "like crap through a goose". cheeky sick smiley

Despite what I believe to be generally subpar english subbing there was one funny translation: when the father tells the guy trying to help him load the motorbike onto the back of his SUV: "You stink." laughing smiley

Indeed. Same goes for me. Another funny dub from Godzilla 2000(1999):

1. The little girl referring to the female photographer as an "imbecile"

I have to admit I especially liked the "G" suit used in this movie: large, spiky dorsal fins, the head resembling(somewhat) the "Kinggoji" suit from King Kong Vs Godzilla(1962). thumbs up

I actually enjoyed the G2K dubbing. Plus the J Peter Robinson score in the Americanized version helped enhance the fight scenes.
