In 1993 Toho released the 5th Heisei Godzilla film, Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla II, IMO a big improvement over the '92 "G Vs Mothra" film from a year before. This film is IMO, one of the best, if not the best, of the Heisei Godzilla movies. --Post your thoughts and opinions of this film here. :)

Pretty cool. Rodan finally gets his return!...but gets a beam? That sucked. MG was pretty cool, and it introduced the only Goji-child that was competent.

I particularly enjoyed the first battle between Godzilla and Rodan, which brought back memories of their battle in the '64 "Ghidrah" film. These two monsters make, IMO, natural rivals(and combatants).

Recently received this DVD as a birthday gift and I really think this is a wonderful film. I agree, the battle scenes with Godzilla and Rodan are great fun and I also love Baby G.

On December 11. 1993 the Toho Motion Picture Company released Gojira Vs Mekagojira, Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla. The story: Mecha-King Ghidorah is excavated from the ocean floor by authorities with the UN Godzilla Countermeasures Center, it's advanced technology copied in the construction of a new weapon to fight Godzilla: Mechagodzilla. Meanwhile, a prehistoric egg is discovered on Adonoa Island. The egg eventually hatches, revealing a Godzillasaurus "baby". "Baby" is ultimately used by the military to lure Godzilla into a fight with MechaG on a remote island, but Rodan(believing "baby" to be it's infant) intervenes. Ultimately Godzilla and Mechagodzilla face off in Chiba City...(no spoilers). Observations: IMO the best of the Heisei Godzilla films-everything is here-good special effects, the monsters(G, MechaG, and Rodan, all battling each other collectively or each other one on one), and(for a change tongue-1 ) some interesting characters. I also liked the score, and the film's ending. This film is available on DVD Region 2 at Yesasia.com. It has been released on Region 1 DVD(Tri-Star). Post your thoughts and critiques of this film, as well as anything related(including the DVD), here. :)

Even though it doesn't hold up as well as Godzilla 1985 or Godzilla vs Biollante, this is my favorite of the Heisei series. Actually, it's one of my favorite Godzilla movies period. I love the action scenes, the new Mechagodzilla, baby Godzilla, Ifukube's score, and the characters are quite interesting as well. Plus, the American actor who plays Doctor Asimov is worth a laugh or two. Good stuff.

Indeed. His voice during the initial release of Mechagodzilla from it's subterranean base=decidedly unscientific, possibly urban hillbilly groink! and his dialogue during his discussion of Garuda's flying mods with the young Garuda "tech"=sounded as if he were reading off an index card confused

as with most of the heisei movies, I started to like this movie much more after seeing the great looking DVD. Very colourful and a pretty good story. I bet if James Cameron was to make a Godzilla movie on a Godzilla budget it would look something like this movie...

Indeed...open rawker awrms... Asimov looks like the scientist in this film, to be sure: portly gait, graying, somewhat unkempt hair, glasses, and the drab clothing one might associate with an individual who has been holed up inside a subterranean laboratory for way too long. His voice is an absolute contradiction and sounds like one part South Carolina, one part Georgia, and two parts Kentucky.

"Open the bawdy awrms."
"Now, finally, the time has come to put our technology to the final test."
"Hey! Stop this damn thing."

What an excellent performer. LOL

...and I also love Baby G.

As some one who has, for the most part, always considered Minya annoying, I was surprised to discover that I could actually tolerate Baby G in a Godzilla film. Kudos to Toho for finding a way to make the character work in the storyline. thumbs up
