Well Mechagodzilla didn't kill Rodan, he used his life energy to save Godzilla and use it to rebuild Godzilla's second brain this sacrificing himself....actually that whole second brain thing was all pretty baffling too. Godzilla clearly has rather bizzare anatomy.

And you are right...Mechagodzilla didn't look very good....kinda looked like a cheaply made plastic toy someone grabbed out of the bargain bin.

Just watched this film again, and I can say it still stands as one of my favorites from the Heisei series. I liked Rodan's design here and there was alot of screen time for the kaiju which is how things should be. The annoying Miki character took a bit away from this film as she has all the others, and had she been excluded from these films I could say I would like them even more.

I loved how Rodan Helped Godzilla and that Godzilla beat the living crap out od MechaGodzilla. Ifukube's score was excelent. I love the piece "The Esper Chorus" Where The little kids are singing to "Baby" and it wakes up Rodan.

Just watched this one. Of the Heisei series, I'd say this is my second favorite of the ones I've seen. I haven't seen Godzilla vs. Mothra, Space Godzilla, or Destoroyah yet. Space Godzilla sounds pretty bad, and I'm waiting until I can get a Japanese version to see the other two.

That whole thing with the female scientist and baby Godzilla; Damn, that goes right to the heart. I was really surprised at how well it was done. I don't get emotional over many movies, and I don't cry, but for this movie I actually got kind of watery-eyed at the some of the scenes. Probably partially due to the Godzilla nostalgia and the beautiful Akira Ifukube score.

I've still got problems with the movie, but I liked it a lot overall. Any Godzilla movie with that much of an emotional punch deserves some respect.

The special effects were some of the best I've seen in the Heisei era.

Yep, that poster is a classic. Though it is interesting that Toho tried to push the apperance of there being 3 1994 films, since this poster and the theatrical poster for Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla has the 40th Annerversary of Godzilla emblem in the corner. Wanna know why? It should be obvious.

Most of this film's theatrical showing time would have been in January 1994 and Spacegodzilla was released in December 1994. Huh....

You need to post more than "this movie is best": this is spam and contributes absolutely nothing to the topic. You can do better than this, young sir. winky

I can kind of see how B.B. would say this film is the best. It shows some good animation, solid plot, Godzilla and the other kaiju have a reason to attack certaint places instead of just appering for no reason, not to mention Ifukube's score, which was so good that it even had a live recording released onto VHS. The only negative thing I can say about this film though is that Rodan just looks terrible in this film, especialy in the matte shots with Rodan.

Other than that it is all good. Truly a must see.

I watched this the other day [word of warning:do NOT get the US DVD,the sound is terribly mixed and there's hardly any end credits, which means you don't get to hear all of that haunting piece of music. Think I'll get the Australian DVD. Rant over!!].

This is a really action packed Godzilla film with tons of Kaiju footage, and yet I don't warm to it quite as much as the previous two Heisei films. Despite there being loads of fighting,it varies in quality and the final brawl between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla is a bit static and is never as exciting as I want it to be. Also both Mechagodzilla and Rodan are far inferior in my opinion to their Showa counterparts,in both conception and execution [and also I always prefer Mechagodzilla as a machine on it's own rather than being 'driven' by humans]. In fact Rodan is given really short shrift in this film and he looks really shiff when he flies. Generally the effects are great though and I do really like Minya,a vast improvement on the human freak in some of the 60s films.

Nonetheless,it's wicked entertainment with never a dull moment. The plot is nice, simple and concise for a change in the Heisei series, the monsters are introduced nice and early [I like a nice slow build up,but sometimes you just want monsters and sod the humans],and the ending is rather sweet, although copied in my opinion from a film called Gorgo,a British Godzilla-type film from the 60s. In fact,I'm almost moved by Minya's situation in this film. I'm a big film music fan,and I think the music score is simply SUPERB,I think it's the best Akira Ifikube Kaiju/sci fi score. The G-Force march is really rousing and Minya's theme rather bittersweet. I think in his previous Heisei scores he copied too many themes from older movies but here he doesn't do that as often,it's a great mixture of old and new music.

Although perhaps a little overrated in my opinion it's still a great entry and would have been a fine end to the series, which I think it was originally intended to be. Sadly, they then decided to make Godzilla Vs Space Godzilla which I found disappointing to say the least!

I also dislike the dub on the Sony R1 DVD of the '93 Godzilla film. I have this movie on Region 3 HK DVD though I haven't watched it in a long time.

The closing score, in which Godzilla and "Junior" wade out to sea and begin their transit back to Birth Island, is a truly melodic and memorable score. The music is fitting, I think, considering the events in this film that culminate with Godzilla and the infant G finally being brought together.

I have also always liked the way Godzilla looked down at the small monster as Junior emerged from the container: Godzilla's look was one of sympathy for Junior and a desire to protect and mentor the small monster. It's a look that has obviously rarely(if ever) been seen on Godzilla's face throughout the monster's film history. winky

Here's a review of this film by a young fellow on YouTube:

very funny

Evan, it would appear you have some competition on YouTube regarding these kaiju films. tongue-1

As to the video above...

Kind of reminds me of me when I do videos. Except that I have stoped showing my face and with my forever growing skills in Windows Movie Maker. Though I think it is kind of obvious why this kid has only had 62 videos on that one particular video. Most of my videos from July has onlu 250+ views (that isn't much better compared to other people on youtube who make videos, but it is still better to a point).

I actualy had to skip most of the review because it is just stupid. I think that this kid let Kyle AKA Deadzilla get to him. That is not to say that Deadzilla is a bad person, but he can be seem alittle big due to him actualy being more experianced than most people on youtube right now (well, not including all of the people involved with the team project TokusatusuReviewV3, all of them are just as good). But, c'mon. He friggin thought he had to show proof that he had the DVD. Plus it wasn't even that much of a review. I will now share a quote which UltramanCronos AKA Godzilla_2000 has said over at the Atari forums...

"...the thing I dislike about most younger reviews; they have no place reviewing anything, and they cant, so they instead say all the usual stuff "this, this, and this rotates 360" and then make shoutouts to popular reviews as well as use some of our inside jokes to try and fit in, like "Oh yeah, I'm one of you guys for mentioning how Creations needs bigger boxes!"

Though I do got to question UltraCronos alittle bit. I do not get how he thinks he has the rights to review figures and yet other people don't. If someone could please clarify this, it would be much obliged. And this which DroughtTrigger wrote, some thing which actualy hits me down in there...

"you know what i don't like about the young people making reviews the most? there breathing problem, i know perhaps some might have that issue but is like everyone has that."

Some questions for you Evan, regarding Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla(1993):

1. did you like Rodan having a beam weapon?

2. how would compare MG's appearance in this film to the '74 MG: better, worse or the same?

3. what was your impression of the "Garuda", which ultimately became an extension of MG when it battled Godzilla at the end of the film?

I liked it. This is the first kaiju film I saw Rodan in, just for the record. So I am abit more fond of Rodan than the status quo.

I liked it better. But in some shots it looks alittle too massive. But other than that, total improvement, except for the dorsal fins. I had to wait another 9 years for them to do them right hehe....

Garuda is kick ass. And it is nice that it has left it's impression. No doubt Garuda was part of the reason why MG would have a "missile pack" on his back nine years latter.
