For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

In 1961 Gorgo was released by MGM. The story: a salvage vessel is nearly wrecked by undersea volcanic activity off the Ireland coast. Two of the vessel's crew(played by Bill Travers and William Sylvester) go ashore into the local fishing village, befriending a boy and running afoul of the surly harbormaster. Nights later a 60-foot reptilian sea monster appears briefly, driven off by torchtossing villagers. The creature is subsequently captured by the salvage vessel crew, where it is brought back to London, and unceremoniously put on display as part of a circus show. In the meantime, the monster's 200 foot "mother" appears at Nara Island, wipes out the harbormaster's abode and then sets off to London to rescue her 'child"... Directed by Eugene Lourie. Produced by Frank and Maurice King. -- Post your thoughts and opinions about this film here. :)

Are you going to make the purchase, Lee or search around for a bit?

I'm going to wait until Friday night to look around and see if I can find a few other reviews of it first-if it's still for sale at Amazon at that time I will order it. I like buying a kaiju book every now and then. :)

According to this blog post at Kensforce a UK filmmaker named Edgar Wright has indicated he plans to do a remake of Gorgo(1961). The link: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2008/05/is-e...rgo-remake.html

I hope a remake of this old classic gets made. thumbs up

Edgar Wright indicated that he would use a man in the suit for this Gorgo remake. That, in and of itself, isn't IMO necessarily bad...if the remaining special effects are good. Perhaps Wright will also employ a combo of suit and CGI. We'll see.

Man in a suit, huh? In this day and age it'll be laughed out of the theaters. I know that opinion isn't popular amongst kaiju fans but it is reality.

I really enjoy Gorgo. The costume has its flaws but the destruction scenes of London were executed real well. I also think the portrayal of sheer panic in the streets of London was nicely done.

Being a diehard fan of the stop-motion monster films I grew up with, and thrilled to, "Gorgo" was one of the exceptions to the rule!

This film excels in every way, in my opinion. Beautifully photographed, the film is a great example of what could be accomplished with live-action monsters rather than stop-motion. The monster "suits" of Gorgo and much larger mom were totally believable and incredibly detailed and polished.

The entire film shines...the photography, direction, music, sets, and the great screenplay itself.

If you see this film for the first time...you'll want to see it again!

Mother-love, monster-style....one of my favorites!

I heard about this at MZ; didn't know if it was true or not. It's not my favorite monster flick, but it would be nice to see what kind of work they put into it. This might be a double dipper for me, depending on what extras they throw in. That's really the selling point for me when it comes to buying copies of movies I already have.

Have any of you guys seen the advertisement for IDW's release of the Gorgo comic book? I think it's a reprint that actually came out at the time of the movie, but I'm not sure. It looks kind of interesting; just wondered if anybody else has seen it.
