Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

From everything I've read on the internet and in magazines director Jun Fukuda, despite his apparent disdain for the G films he directed(revealed in later interviews), played the role of "company man" well in directing his Godzilla movies.

Well I don't see why why would have a problem with this one....sure it was a light hearted and often goofy Godzilla film but it worked in my opinion as the whole time seemed to remain in the right context and stayed consistent to the feel of the film. I really think that here the Godzilla's goofy elements payed off rather well (which they didn't always in Godzilla films) and made for a highly enjoyable film.

One thing's for sure: Ebirah would make one hell of a buffet entry at a Red Lobster restaurant. tongue-1

that's enough see food to feed a third world country.....Ebirah really would help out world hunger.....is it just me or was Ebirah one of Godzilla weaker opponents?

I would categorize Ebirah as one of Godzilla's weaker opponents...despite the giant crustacean giving Godzilla a pretty good battle.

there's no denying that Ebirah fought with some gusto but at the end of the day he really didn't stand a chance in hell against Godzilla....I always found it funny after Godzilla rips Ebirah's claw all and when he starts running away Godzilla starts snapping his severed claw...adds insult to injury

Well, then again, King King didn't really stand a chance, either. But he still won.... depending on your point of view

King Kong at least could exploit a weakness of Godzilla's (even if in a really ludicrous way)....which went away after a while....but Ebirah didn't have that luxury

I have often tried to imagine King Kong with a beam weapon of some kind in King Kong Vs Godzilla(1962), or Ebirah firing beams from its claws, mandibles or antennae, in Godzilla Vs The Sea Monster(1966). Obviously both are, frankly, ludicrous. shiftyeyes

I just imagine that Godzilla got stronger as the years rolled on....if only to just pit him against stronger monsters like Mechagodzilla....at which time electricity was no longer a weakness and had Kong and Godzilla had a rematch toward the end of the Showa era, Godzilla would have mopped the floor with him....though I still think that Kong is stronger then Ebirah as King Kong was supposed to fight him in this movie instead of Godzilla and Toho just couldn't get the rights to him at that point in time

Alright, I've watched this movie the past 4 nights in a row.

About this time the Godzilla Suit REALLY started to go down Hill. the Head looked like a Wet Muppet. Very few Teeth and when He roared, you could see there wasn't a throat. The Shoulders were non existant and the arms were way too long.

Masaru Sato's score was Brilliant. It really broke from the mold of the previous Godzilla films and gave this movie a different feel. An adventure Feel. Much better than his score for Godzilla Raids Again.

Mothra's Cameo was very cool. Excelent way for the people to escape from the Island.

Indeed. There was quite of bit of sag around the middle portion of the suit. I thought I read somewhere a while back that water tank usage had a good bit to do with this suit's overall decline.

Agreed. I also liked Mothra's brief appearance because, as Godzilla's behavior suggested when he saw the winged monster, the two kaiju are rivals.

Mothra brought back bad memories for Godzilla. Which means there has to be some sort of continuity between all of the orignal Godzilla movies.

Well by this point Godzilla had movie from villain to anti hero and still more of a threat then what he was in the 70's where he was everyones saviour...it seem to be an evolution of sorts...last time Godzilla would serve as an anti hero before becoming a full fledged good guy was in Son of Godzilla. But I assumed that the whole showa era was in the same continuity...including Revenge of Godzilla.....even if I usually tend to ignore that one

The Mothra scene definetly lended itself to the idea of a rivalry between the two kaiju. In a way it kind of underscored Godzilla's victory against Ebirah, because even though he defeated Ebirah rather easily, Mothra's appearance at the end kind of served as a reminder to the audience that he wasn't always so dominant.

This was the first godzilla film i watched all the way through, i started watching it not realising it was a godzilla film because the title threw me (Ebirah, horror of the deep) i watched it on sky tv here in the uk and the tv mag synopsis didnt mention the g man at all, so what a surprise to see the big man half way through sleeping in a moutain, was only then i realised i was watching a godzilla marathon on sky cinema, that day i watched ebirah horror of the deep, terror of mechagodzilla, destroy all monster, godzilla vs hedorah, godzilla vs gigan, godzilla's revenge, godzilla vs megalon, godzilla vs mechagodzilla, son of godzilla and godzilla vs mothra. That was back in 96, thus where my love for godzilla films came from the day when i decided to watch an unkown to me giant monster movie. Im pretty glad i did.

That's one hell of a Godzilla movie marathon. I wish an American cable channel would broadcast something like this once and a while.

I like it too, but it would be #11 on my list. The film is a classic. And I like the whole tropical setting of the film. Not to mention the fast paced action...

Don't mind if I do: I've always wondered what Godzilla was thinking when he looked down at Kumi Mizuno's character.

I also liked how Godzilla dealt with the giant buzzard that interrupted his nap. sickko

I love the tropical setting. The set builders on this film and Son of Godzilla did a job Above-and-beyond. i also loved Masaru Sato's score. gave a "Personal" and South seas feel to the film.

If you watch the Japanese Theatrical Trailer, you will notice some strange American music being played in it.

Although too bad we did not get Kong for this film though. Who knows, this film could have made a good prequel to KKE...
