While not a very liked entry by many I enjoyed it as it had the one core ingredient that a Godzilla film needs....to be fun to watch and this film delivered and even the human story was entertaining enough to keep you entertained for Godzilla absence for the first half. One issue I have it how one sided it was as Ebirah never stood a chance....despite fighting with some gusto Godzilla dominated the whole time.

It is a fun movie to watch. The score it's self is upbeat and completely different. Really gives it that South Seas feel

You are correct this film did have a different feel to it then other Godzilla films.....this however may be partially due to the fact it was originally supposed to be a King Kong film but due to Toho having trouble getting the rights to King Kong again they stuck Godzilla in Kong's place

Watching the lovely Kumi Mizuno in her island attire always cheers me up a bit when I watch this movie on DVD. shiftyeyes

definitely I think this film warrents more praise then it gets as I've heard alot of insults thrown it's way. All round it's a pretty fun entry and you are right Rodan70...the Godzilla suit isn't great as it kinda looks like his face was attacked by bee's

I which they would do something like that near where I live...I would love to see a Godzilla film on the big screen...particularly a good like this this particular film.

Different note about this film, was it just me or did it kinda feel like Godzilla himself was less a part of the plot them anything else?....even less then all the people or events or even Mothra and only major reasons he showed up at all was the need something to destroy the villains base and they needed some monster to fight Ebirah or it would be rather anticlimactic. As the film didn't revolve around Godzilla very much at all.

Still at least he makes his presence felt and all it said and done that's all Godzilla really needs to do.

I believe Godzilla didn't appear in Godzilla Vs The Sea Monster(1966) until about the 45(or 50) minute mark of this film, which is about the halfway point of this movie's run time.

that's excluding a could of scenes of him sleeping....though that's not very notable...Godzilla took quite a while to really get started but as I stated earlier that the Human story was less dull then the usual and had more of a story of their own then most kaiju films but when it can to the crunch it delivered the monster action that was promised.

I never really cared for this movie until I watched it uncut, subtitled, and widescreen on DVD. I really appreciated the direction, production value, plot, and acting much more this way.

The Japanese version is pretty good. But I remember what the Godzilla suit reminds me of... Kermet the frog!

The Godzilla suit in Ebirah Horror Of The Deep was definitely showing wear and tear in this movie, particularly the "sag" in the suit around the mid-section. Water tank shots were, from what I've read, were hard on these suits.

Also I hear this is where the budget for Godzilla films was starting to drop....but still clear that there was enough for them to try their hardest to make another quality Godzilla adventure.

From everything I've read on the internet and in magazines director Jun Fukuda, despite his apparent disdain for the G films he directed(revealed in later interviews), played the role of "company man" well in directing his Godzilla movies.
