It was a pic of Seven and Taro together, I don't see how that shows that Seven is Taro's father than, it may be true, it may not be, I have no idea. |

Indeed, who knows? It would be kind of unrealistic I guess to perform a paternity test on Ultraseven .

Do you guys think that when BCI went to Chaiyo to get the rights to ULTRAMAN for domestic DVD release that maybe Chaiyo said to them, "Hey, BCI, we have another show called ULTRASEVEN that you might want to release too."? I hope so. I'll be grinning from ear to ear the day ULTRASEVEN sees an official US DVD release. |

I'm sure it was discussed Dan. The consensus among Ultraman fans the world over is that Ultraseven(1967-68) is perhaps the best of the classic "Ultra" series-not sure I agree with this but it is certainly as good, from an effects standpoint, as the original, or The Return Of Ultraman(1971-72). That said I do not think anything will be released(other than the BCI Ultraman Vol 2) until the TPC Vs Chaiyo fiasco has played itself out in courts, and God knows how long that could take. thumbs down |

If that's the case then I guess it'll be time to deal with the--"arrrrrgh"--pirates. A-booting we will go. |

I am much less enthusiastic about taking the DVD-R approach now than in past years, primarily because, for many of these DVD-R's, correct playback and other functions is problematic. Also, I have had, in the last year, several that crapped out during my initial viewing of them. thumbs down |

I hear that. Other than ONE company, all these other bootleggers manufacture pure crap with little regard to quality control. |

You know Dan, I am aware that DVD-R's are not going to be as good as the manufacturer disc, that much is obvious. But to watch something fall apart on the TV screen while you first view it is ridiculous. I have always believed the difference in DVD-R quality to be the recording media being used by the individuals who make them. Does this sound right to you? eyebrow Topic: another screenshot of Ultraseven using one of his primary weapons while human-sized |

Absolutely! There are high quality DVD-Rs (Memorex comes to mind) that should be less prone to "laser rot". Also, these less scupulous dealers try to gorp more money out of the consumer by cramming too many episodes on a single disc. This allows the dealer to use less of discs in their inventory however the more information you put on a single disc the more compression you get. The result is a lower quality transfer full of pixelation and (here's the word again) artifacting! When you experience a skip in a DVD-R it usually means sub-par DVDs and/or sub-par burning-recording equipment. Notice how your large commercial companies (Fox, Warner Bros, Paramount) don't have that same problem? That's because they're using quality equipment. Equipment that a cheating bootlegger has neither the money or the will to purchase. Why should they cut into their profit margins? Hell, they're making a killing off illegal copies what do they care about quality control? |

I have been told Dan that Verbatim and Sony DVD-Rs are also high quality. Can you confirm? eyebrow |

I personally believe that EVERYTHING Sony makes is of the highest quality. In my view you just can't go wrong with them. Verbatim is another brand with a solid reputation as well but I'm not sure one way or another in regard to their DVDs. If I were to venture a guess I'd say Verbatim DVDs are a safe bet. |

I have a few Verbatim DVD-Rs given to me that are blank. I do not have any Sony DVD-R's, but I will get some this weekend. The reason: to avoid a mad scramble for them like last year, before AMC's Monsterfest and the stellar lineup of sci-fi/horror on TCM in October. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

AMC/TCM sure do show some great horror movies every October, don't they? One of the reasons I love the month of October, besides Halloween, is the great selection of movies that are on all the airwaves. Must be cool to have a DVD burner to record all that stuff. Lee, when you record a movie can you set chapter stops or is it continuous playback? Also, can you pause while recording, a la VCR, to remove commercials? |

Yes, to both questions. The DVD-recorder I bought cost me about $285(including tax). It's a Samsung. When I record(VHS>DVD-R, DVD>VHS, TV>VCR, or TV>DVD-R) I am given the choice of chapter stops or none. There is a pause function for both recording onto VHS or DVD-R. Recording onto VHS Dan on this machine is the same as any other standard VCR. Recording onto DVD-R can be trickier, one reason I have not recorded as much onto disk. Most of my usage of this machine has been limited to transferring about twenty(20) or so VHS tapes of Ultraman (1966-Jap lang episodes) and other kaiju/tokusatsu stuff onto disc. I have also transferred some VHS of letterboxed, uncut, subtitled Godzilla films onto DVD-R. Thread drift: Some of my cable channels come in a little hazy. I wonder if buying a new coaxial cable and installing it would make any difference in the clarity of some of the cable channels I get not being as clear as others. Comments? eyebrow |

Were your cable channels blurry at your old apartment? Were you using the same cable from the wall outlet to your TV that you're using now? If so, then you may have a problem with that line. Try replacing it to see what happens. |
