Hey, this is a great idea for a thread, Pack. I like the idea of having a TV guide for kaiju that we can come to to report and check kaiju listings. Bravo! |

I think it's a wonderful idea, as well, but sadly, I rarely see Toho Kaiju or giant beastie films as a rule. I do know the Sci-Fi Channel will occasionally show some decent films, but it seems to be far and few between, these days. :( |

I have not had the Sci-Fi Channel now as part of my cable package for almost five years(I cancelled it back in 2001). What made me cancel was their heavy use of direct-to video movie programming. Some direct-to video movies are okay, like many of the "Boaz Davidson" films, e.g. Spiders, or even Octopus. Another half-decent direct-to-video movie that comes to mind is Boa Vs Python, not good mind you, but passable. Too many stinkers abound on the Sci-Fi Channel now, at least IMHO, like Epoch and Komodo, or some of the Dean Cain vehicles like Boa. Another channel that I do not like nearly as much now is AMC, or American Movie Classics. I can remember the time when AMC showed films in letterbox format and commercial free. Now I just check out this channel at the advent of Monsterfest to see if there's anything worth watching, or recording on my DVD recorder. |

When the Sci-Fi Channel first hit TV, it was almost a dream come true. I remember on Saturday nights they used to have, 'Radioactive Theatre' or something along those lines and used to show some excellent classic sci-fi/horror films, in fact, I was introduced to what has become a favorite of mine on those Saturday night films, Island of Terror. The Sci-Fi Channel used to have classic horror films on in the afternoons, as well and some fantastic classic TV series, but that has all fallen along the wayside over the years and I rarely watch the channel at all. I also remember when AMC was THE channel to watch for some great films. I taped a ton of stuff off there for years and remember Halloween week was great fun and my VCR was running non-stop in those days! |

I'm not exactly sure of the exact year(I think it was 1999 or 2000) but it was the last time that AMC's Monsterfest had a very heavy emphasis on Godzilla and other giant monster films. I remember going to Circuit City and buying a 4-head VCR to replace a cheapie 2-head machine I had, in preparation of taping some these films. I pulled a few all-nighters that week, spending several work days drowning in strong coffee in order to fight the constant drowsiness from lack of sleep. Some of my tapings were good, as I successfully recorded Frankenstein Conquers The World(1965-AIP version with no commercials) and The Curse Of The Werewolf(1961-a Hammer classic, and no commercial interruptions) :rolleyes: |

Well, if it's any consolation, at least you get the Sci-Fi channel. I don't, and recently lost TCM when my cable provider dropped it, substituting it with A&E and SPIKE TV. No disrespect to those two channels but I would much rather have Turner Classic Movies. dead |
