In 1979 20th Century Fox released Alien. There have been many imitations of this film to be sure, but none, IMO, come even close to matching the white-knuckle terror and suspense of this classic science fiction movie. The story: the crew of the deep space salvage tug Nostromo is awakened from their hypersleep to answer what is believed to be a distress beacon from a desolate planet. On the planet's surface they discover a derelict space ship...and something much, much worse: a malevolent life form that breeds inside a human host. ----Discuss your take on this classic sci-fi/horror film here. :)

If it were possible, I might like one final Alien movie that does it right. But I'm going to leery of any new Alien film after Resurrection and the AVP movies. If they can't do a final Alien film as good as Alien and Aliens, then they should just let it die. I'm done seeing the franchise get trashed.

How would you rank the "Alien" films, not including the AVP movies, as your favorites?

Actually, you interpreted my question correctly. Thanks. Mr. Smiles

How I would rank the "Alien" quadrilogy of films, with #1 being my favorite:

1. Alien(1979)
2. Aliens(1986)
3. Alien 3(1992)
4. Alien Resurrection(1997)

The 1986 sequel is IMO outstanding and I enjoy it nearly as much as the original. It took me a little while to warm up to the third film in the installment but I've actually come to like it slightly more than the fourth movie.

There's apparently some discussion going on at Twentieth Century Fox about making a "prequel" film to Aliens(1986): http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_15039.html

The article mentions that Ridley Scott, who directed Alien(1979), might end up directing this "prequel" movie which I think would be great. thumbz up

A rumor has surfaced that Twentieth Century Fox is going to produce, or is at least considering producing, a remake of Alien.

Source: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/31876/alien-vs-remake-whoever-wins-we-lose

All I can say is this: I don't think any remake would be better than the 1979 film. winky

The article, as I read it, suggested the remake would be some kind of "prequel". Regardless of whether the studio opted to go with the "prequel" story, or not, I am opposed to any redo of the 1979 film.

As am I. I think that if they wanted to do anything, they should do one final Alien film with Sigourney Weaver to make up for Alien 4 and the AVP movies. Something to let the franchise go out with dignity. I've got a few ideas about how it could go.

Sure.

I never really ironed it out completely. But here's the basic idea.

You've got your crew of space marines, scientists, and maybe Ripley herself. I always tried to imagine it as a film that could work without her. But her presence would add a lot to the film.

Basically they go to a dark and desolate planet that may be the alien homeworld. And there they find this massive massive ancient ship. Maybe built by the other aliens from the first film. So they start exploring the ship.

Of course, there's an evil presence lurking around the planet, watching from the shadows. And things start to go horribly wrong. Then the gigantic ship takes off with most of the crew on it. They're trapped on-board.

Now they must continue to explore the ship and try to determine where it's going or who built it and stuff like that. But what they don't know is that a xenomorph made it on-board. So again, it's a desperate game of survival as they wander the eerie ship, trying to avoid getting killed by the alien. And maybe they have to try to kill it before it breeds. This would be sort of based on the alien of the original film. Something so terrible, we don't really understand how intelligent it is or what it's capable of. In a deleted scene from the original film we see that it's capable of capturing humans and gradually morphing them into more xenomorphs.

I would really want to get back to that creeping horror of the unknown from the first film. Doesn't mean there can't be some marines vs. xeno action in certain parts. But I want to make the individual alien much more like the one in the first film. The one that may have actually raped Lambert.

Then towards the end of the film, the passengers realize that the ship is headed directly for Earth.

What makes you think that the monster "raped" her? I just figured the beast killed her and Parker. I remember Parker(played by Yaphet Kotto) trying to fight the monster and he was assaulted with the monster's piston like inner jaws...a brutal way to die, that's for sure.

I'm watching the "Alien" films this week: so far I've watched Alien Resurrection(1997)(Monday night) and Alien 3(1992) tonight. I will be watching the other two films tomorrow and Friday night.

One of the most fascinating things about the aliens is the fact they are eyeless: none of these monsters have any eyes(the one exception being the Ripley-alien abomination near the end of the 1997 film). Despite not having any eyes these drooling, ravenous double jawed monsters seem to "see" what's around them without a problem. I always reckoned it had to do with their other senses. Anyone else care to comment about this? heyo

It's a theory that some fans have concocted based on an interpretation of the scene. For one thing, the alien's tail starts going up her leg and up her back before the scene cuts.

And then later when Ripley finds Lambert and Parker dead, Lambert is hanging there naked. It's either a bare foot and leg, or both feet and legs, but it's definitely there. I'm not sure what the original intention of that shot was, but I think it's possible that the alien raped her.

Either way, I just like the idea of a creature that we can't fully understand. Something that may be intelligent enough to do something that horrific to a person.

Well they must be bouncing something off of the environment and picking up the reflections. Whether that's sound or some part of the electromagnetic spectrum that's not visible to us, I'm not sure.

I watched AVP-R tonight. I noticed that the aliens appeared identical in design, and their sounds, to the monsters in the 1986 film Aliens. I prefer this design to the design in which the aliens have smooth textured heads.

I am a great fan of "The Wolf"(the Predator sent to "clean" up the mess on Earth) in AVP-R: he was one awesome bad ass! thumbz up

The "Predalien Vs Predator "Wolf" fight from AVP-R:
Spoiler: click to toggle

I liked this battle, both monsters hell bent on jacking each other up and blasting the hell out of each other.

I also liked The Wolf discarding his weapons, then his mask, deciding to fight The Predalien old school. sickko

Interesting, though couldn't the AVP series be counted as prequels already? I have high hopes for this, since Mr. Scott - the director of the original and a film that I like, "LEGEND" - is heading this one.

Not sure if youve figured it out since you last posted that, but the leg that was shown was Bretts leg from a cut scene from his death. Lambert wore cowboy boots
