In 1979 20th Century Fox released Alien. There have been many imitations of this film to be sure, but none, IMO, come even close to matching the white-knuckle terror and suspense of this classic science fiction movie. The story: the crew of the deep space salvage tug Nostromo is awakened from their hypersleep to answer what is believed to be a distress beacon from a desolate planet. On the planet's surface they discover a derelict space ship...and something much, much worse: a malevolent life form that breeds inside a human host. ----Discuss your take on this classic sci-fi/horror film here. :)

Seriously a new Alien??
Yes. Ridely Scott, the original director of the First movie will be directing this one, its a prequal. But the big quistion from me is, how far back from the first one are we going. will it be a few hours befor the Mining vessel made that fatal move, or will it be how it all started.
As long as Ridely Scott is directing I don't care.

I feel likewise about the "Alien" prequel film. Ridley Scott, having directed the first "Alien" film back in 1979, obviously is very familiar with the franchise. I like all of this director's films. With Ridley Scott in the director's chair for the next "Alien" film I'm confident this movie will be well received by both casual and hard core fans of the "Alien" film series. Aliensnarl

I liked ALIENS the best

Alien is my second favorite.

Alien 3, while less than perfect, was a poetic way to end the series and is definetly good.

Alien Ressurection is just simply good. It's not a movie I would buy, and I think the saga in general would benefit if this movie were removed from the series cannon, but it does have its moments.

I'm hoping this prequel can match up to ALIENS without being a carbon-copy.

Fox recently made a website called Fox75.com to celebrate their 75th anniversary in making films. On this site they talk about upcomming film releases in the home video one planned release is the Alien Anthology which is the BD version of the Huge Alien Quadrilogy set.

The 6 Disc BD vesion will basically be the 9 disc version of the Alien Quadrilogy plus new special features including commentaries on all the films by Sigorney Weaver.

So 30 years prior to the original...that's not too far off the timeline. They could still play the Weyland-Yutani curve into it if they wanted to. I'm hoping for a more original approach, though.

You and me both Lee, you and me both. I believe it's scheduled for next year correct? Or is it 2012? If it's 2012 then that's going to be a good year for movies

We have Godzilla, SM Reboot, Alien 0, probably a Piranha 3D 2 if the first is successful and more that I can't think of right now.

I'm looking forward to seeing who Ridley Scott casts as his female lead in this prequel film. Hopefully she'll look as good as Sigourney Weaver did back in the 1979 film...and there will be an "underwear" shot of some kind. tongue-2

So long as it's not Megan Fox. There is no way she'd ever be able to pull off an iron-willed leading lady like Sigourney did. While it was hard not to gape at the underwear shots, the absolute hottest thing about Lt. Ellen Ripley was that she could assume leadership while everybody else had their tales tucked firmly between their legs. Didn't matter if they were space-truckers, marines, double-y chromo prisoners, or weapon smugglers: the second there was danger, she owned everybody. None of these new overrated actresses could pull it off so well. (And when I'm getting critical over acting, you KNOW it needs to be done right)

Yeah I'm kind of curious who Ridley will cast as well. There aren't a lot of actresses today that could live up to Sigourney Weaver. I'd suggest Eliza Dushku. Her acting varies from good to bad, but she has the rare ability to look convincing while kicking ass. And I'm sort of a fan of her, so I'd like to see it happen. Though it would also be good if Ridley found some great unknown actress.

I'm really looking forward to the "Alien" prequel. Ridley Scott has said this movie will be "very nasty"(in his own words). We haven't had an outright "Alien" film since 1997 so I'm ready for another one!
