Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

In 1979 20th Century Fox released Alien. There have been many imitations of this film to be sure, but none, IMO, come even close to matching the white-knuckle terror and suspense of this classic science fiction movie. The story: the crew of the deep space salvage tug Nostromo is awakened from their hypersleep to answer what is believed to be a distress beacon from a desolate planet. On the planet's surface they discover a derelict space ship...and something much, much worse: a malevolent life form that breeds inside a human host. ----Discuss your take on this classic sci-fi/horror film here. :)

Interesting rumors... So it IS a prequel of sorts, but the focus is more on the Jockey(s)... well, we'll see.
According to sources actors sporting "alien" costumes were seen on the set of "Prometheus". Read more:

According to one movie insider an "Alien" sequel film will eventually be made by Twentieth Century Fox...possibly a movie that will delve into the xenomorph home planet. Read more: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/24655

Might not be movie news but a new game is in the works along with the other game Aliens: Colonial Marines

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/116/1167774p1.html?RSSwhen2011-05-12_065800&RSSid=1167774&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+gsfeeds%2Fall+%28GameSpy+Complete%29

Also we've already seen the Alien Homeworld if we count what's said in director commentaries. Apparently the planet that's featured Alien/Aliens LV-426 is the Alien homeworld according to Ridley Scott.

That's what Scott said in one of his commentaries for the film.

The thing is, though, that unless they confirm it as spoken dialog in the movie, it's up in the air. Regardless of Scott's intentions, he could very well have changed his mind and went with Cameron's idea that they weren't from that planet.

Based on this update I think it's safe to say the xenomorph special effects will likely be quite good in next year's Prometheus: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/44729/whos-building-prometheus-space-jockeys-and-xenomorphs

In related news, there is now a teaser for the Aliens: Colonial Marines game from E3.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-aliens-colonial/714445

Making sure everbody sees this.

From the dialog, it sounds like they're rewriting the events of Aliens and making a sort of "what if" sequel. Wonder what changes they made?

Looks interesting, and suddenly I have an itching feeling to go play my Alien Ressurection FPS game on PS1.

Damon Lindelof recently, while being interviewed on a talk show, made some comments about the upcoming film Prometheus, a movie which originally started out as an "Alien" prequel: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/45306/damon-lindelof-talks-prometheus

I was watching Alien Vs Predator(2007) last night on DVD and, while watching the aliens wondered, again how it is that these hostile and bloodthirsty monsters can see. They have no eyes. I thought I read somewhere on an "alien" themed fan made database website that these creatures "sense" things, moving and non-moving around themselves.

One of the reasons I'm so fired up to see the upcoming film Prometheus is because this movie will supposedly show the origins of the alien "xenomorphs".

I have also often wondered if monsters this hideous and with such a propensity and overpowering instinct for procreation and violence exist in this universe of ours. winky

I had always just assumed they had a heightened sense of feel. I know there are some insects that hear and feel through different parts of their body, and I had always related Xenomorphs to bugs since that's what alot of the colonial marines called them. That's just my take. I remember science class as a kid when they told us certain grasshopper species could taste and hear through their feet and crazy stuff like that. Vision, I'm not sure.

I've heard that they actually have eyes under the dome in the front, or if you choose to believe the video games then Aliens see pheremones as a colored hue around things, humans glow blue, predators glow green and other aliens glow pinkish red.

The common theory is that they can indeed sense motion, though because this is never explained in the films, it's canonically a mystery.

I have mixed feelings about the whole "explaining the origins" thing. On one hand, it would be a nice change of pace and it could be a very refreshing and invigorating take on the saga. On the other, one of the most appealing things about the aliens is that we don't know much about them apart from their life-cycles and hierarchy. Everything about them is a mystery, and that helps with their cool factor.

To be honest I am not sure another alien film will add anything to the series, I like Alien and loved Aliens and then then third and forth movie where a let down, hope to be proved wrong when the new movie comes out though.

The reason I'm so interested in the film Prometheus(2012) is that it potentially delves into the origins of the alien xenomorphs and also delves into events leading up to the space jockey, his vessel and how it ends up on planet LV 426. winky

As big of an Alien fan as I am Prometheus isn't my most anticipated film of next year I will go see it but I'm looking forward to The Amazing Spider Man more because of The Lizard!

Can't wait to see the origin of the Aliens and a living Jockey.

I just don't want to get too excited for the film and then be let down or dissapointed due to my own overblown hype and lofty expectations. I expected the worst from "Predators" and it turned out to be a decent return to form, so I'm hoping for a similar effect when I see Prometheus.
