In 1968 Toho released Destroy All Monsters. The story: the year is 1999, and all of Earth's monsters now live in isolation on Ogasawara Island in a place called Monsterland: Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra(larva), Gorosaurus, Manda, Baragon, Varan, Minya, Kumonga, and Angilas. A race of aliens called the Killaak, in an effort to subjugate the Earth, loose the monster's upon all the major capital cities of the world, Tokyo being the last to be summarily demolished. Only the crew of the spaceship Moonlight SY-3 stand between humanity's salvation and monster annihilation! ---Post your opinions and impressions of this film here. :)

Meh. The only good part is the final battle.

Meh. The only good part is the final battle.

Actually I liked the scene where the monsters converge on Tokyo, i.e. Godzilla, Rodan, Manda, and Mothra(larva). I also liked the scene where Yoshio Tsuchiya gets out of the chair, casually walks to the window, opens the shutter, and proceeds to jump to his death crazy . It was obviously a dummy tossed out a window-still funny to packmule

Eh, I'll give you the fact that seeing Manda was pretty cool, but overall, I didn't care too muach for the scene. ;) Needed the Goji vs Manda fight.

That scene was an outtake wasn't it? Or maybe an unused scene?

Yeah, it was a cut scene. Would have liked to see it.

If they still kept that scene it would of been bad, because they said they cut it because Manda stood no chance against Godzilla. Overa;;. I enjoyed this movie, it was good, i liked the fight scenes the best though.

I think this film is fun, the attack on the city was well done and the monsters looked great, wish the final battle was longer but it kicked tail.

The Special Effects are great and a work of art in this one.

Its a bit to slow, wish they made it faster but Im fine with it.

I was able to catch that deleted scene of Godzilla and Manda on youtube somewhere. It had no audio but you see Manda wrapping around a bridge and then Godzilla advances on him and grabs his head. The film cut after that. I dont know if there was any more footage than that filmed or not.

I also think some of the talking scenes in the first third of the movie were somewhat cumbersome. My main disappointment with Destroy All Monsters(1968) has always been, primarily, the abbreviated appearances of Baragon and Varan. The suits for both these monsters had deteriorated to the point that they were both deemed unusable during the making of this film. A shame really.
I hope, sooner than later, that somebody releases an upgraded R1 DVD of this film. The ADV Films R1 release has no features and no extras and uses the "international" English dub. I have always preferred the AIP dub featuring the deep, rich voice of Norman Rose. A 2-disc R1 DVD release of this film in it's orignal version(with English subs), the AIP version, and lots of extras would be marvelous. noddy

I used to have, on VHS, a collection of outtakes and unused footage from Toho sci-fi and kaiju films. I've also seen the footage of Godzilla skirmishing with Manda. I believe Toho was correct to leave it out of DAM.

Yeah. Like some have said it would not have made sense considering all the kaiju were under control. It would make no sense for them to start fighting.

About the Baragon suit, it is a shame, however that consequence did allow Gorosaurus to shine in his place.

Indeed. After Godzilla Gorosaurus, I thought, did the best job of having Godzilla's back in the final battle with KG. I also think that "Goro's" eruption out of the ground under the Arc De Triomphe in Paris(France) is an iconic scene in all of Toho's kaiju films. I know when I hear the words "Destroy All Monsters" I usually think of that scene and the AIP trailer graphics in which "DAM" is displayed vertically, top to bottom of the television screen with shots of the monsters in the background. thumbs up
