Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I wonder if they (Toho) intended to use that stock footage from the beginning or if All Monsters Attack was on a low budget where they couldn't film alot of new monster footage

From the IMDB:

Quote:

Eiji Tsuburaya was bedridden during production, so Ishirô Honda took over the effects direction, which resulted in limited special effects work and stock footage. Tsuburaya did not work on the film at all, aside from the stock footage, but is credited out of respect

Eiji Tsuburaya passed away in 1970. I've read that he was not in the best of shape, physically, in the months leading up to his death.

Could you imagine what the Godzilla movies that were made after he passed away would've been like if he had remained in good health and lived? I often wondered about that.

Now that's strange. It's listed right in Special Features when you click the Japanese version of the film.

Not on my copy it isn't. confused

I went back, Russ, and checked. Under the English language menu option I get:

-Richard Pusateri's audio commentary
-Ishiro Honda biography
-poster slide show
-image gallery

-Ishiro Honda biography

No original Japanese trailer.

I sent Classic Media an email about this about a week ago. I haven't heard back from them. I might PM Keith Aiken at the ATARI Godzilla forums and ask him about this. confused

I got my copy from Amazon. I'm guessing that Amazon has legit copies and some retail outlets has copies with the missing trailer?

I'd probably get in touch with CM and find out what happened. Did they choose to release AMA without the trailer in the boxset and include the trailer with the April releases?

I was thinking the same thing. I have two(2) copies of Classic Media's "The Godzilla Collection" box sets. I did not buy All Monsters Attack(or TOMG) as single title discs.

I sent Keith Aiken, founder of the website SciFi Japan, a PM at the ATARI Godzilla forums. He replied:

"Regarding the trailer for ALL MONSTERS ATTACK (and TERROR OF MG)... basically, somebody goofed. Classic Media sent me the box set very shortly before they went on sale last Nov, and as soon as I looked at the last two discs I noticed the trailers were missing. I contacted the producer in charge of the DVDs and suggested that the trailers be added when the DVDs were released separately or that the packaging be corrected so at least nothing is being promised that's not on the DVDs...if it's advertised it should be on there.

I haven't seen the single versions that were released last month, but according to some posts on MZ the DVDs now have the trailers. Other people are reporting they didn't get the trailers so I think CM sold off the remaining stock from last year then corrected the problem on the second pressing.

I'll talk to CM this week and see if I can get a definitive answer."

So it does appear to be an error on the part of Classic Media. I'm not going to buy another DVD of All Monsters Attack just to have this trailer. ;)

I can understand your disdain for All Monsters Attack(1969), which is one of the weaker Godzilla films. I will say this: if you buy the Classic Media box set try watching the DVD of this movie in it's original aspect ratio(2:35.1 widescreen) and in Japanese language with English subtitles. Doing this may not change your mind about the movie overall but I think it will make the movie seem a little more tolerable to you. Mr. Smiles

but it has so much stock footage, and the worst is it never actually happens, think about it, its all in ichiros mind, why they chose that i don't know.

Besides simply following the epic, and much larger budgeted Destroy All Monsters(1968), All Monsters Attack(1969) also suffered, from the longest, by edited versions that aired on television, not only shortening the film but also cropping the aspect ratio in order to fill square TV screens. I realize these things by themselves are not the only reason for the continuing disdain that so many casual(and hardcore) G fans have for this movie.

All Monsters Attack is, I think, a children's movie. At least that's how it comes across to me. A young boy is the central character and his casual, even friendly relationship with an almost puppy-faced Minya is also a prominent part of the movie's story.

The extensive use of stock footage no doubt played into this film's story but may also been a budgetary move by Toho, as using stock footage is obviously a way to save on budget.

It's taken me a good long time to look more favorably on this movie, and I've managed to do that by focusing on what I like about All Monsters Attack:

1. the appearance of a new monster, Gabara

2. many of the background visuals used to depict Ichiro's neighborhood: bleak, smoggy and with railroad tracks and other elements of heavy industry in the background(including factories and smoke stacks).

3. Ichiro's shenanigans with the pair of bumbling thieves at the conclusion of the movie, which I found somewhat humorous

4. parts of the score, which I liked

Ken Hulsey of "Monster Island News" has posted a blog entry in which he speculates that a comparison can be made between the Spike Jonze directed film Where The Wild Things Are(2009) and 1969's Godzilla's Revenge. Read more: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2009/10/is-where-wild-things-are-modern.html
