No. If G's Revenge is truly inspired by the book "WTWTA", then it would be a revealing fact and an interesting one. |

I've always found it interesting that with as little as Honda had to work with here, he still managed to get a message across with his movie about latch-key kids. Many people view this as the worst movie of all, it goes pretty low but I think it's pretty close with Godzilla vs. Megalon. At least Godzilla's Revenge had a thicker plot (not by too much but it's still there) than Gvs Megalon. |

After veiwing this one again, its still not a good Movie or Godzilla movie, but I like it more then Godzilla vs Megalon. Becuase its Ishiro Honda working here, and he has another message instead of Nuclear testing. Granted I wish this one focused on Nuclear Testing being bad too. The message is, If someone bullys you, then you beat the living crap out of them! While that seems like a stupid message, Its not, because life sucks and you got to stand up for yourself. But Godzilla's Revenge is still bad on a billion levels, bad camera work for the finnal scene, too much Stock Footage, its all a dream, more time watching a kid then Godzilla. Did anyone else change there mind in this movie. |

![]() I agree that you have to stand up for yourself where bullies are concerned. Does that translate to "beat the living crap" out of anyone who tries? Hopefully not. I think you'll find, as you get older, that often time simply telling someone you won't be bullied is enough to stop the bullying behavior. Of course if someone puts their hands on you then you obviously have to vigorously defend yourself. ![]() I'm with you regarding the "you've got to stand up for yourself". As for the "life sucks" part, well, it's your prerogative to view life as you see fit. I admittedly do not have the most positive outlook on life either at times. I would respectfully submit to you, young sir, that if you continue to maintain an opinion that "life sucks" in your mind and heart, you will be absolutely miserable for much of your adult life. Rather than believe "life sucks" I look at it as "life is hard" and "life isn't fair". Believing in those two things it's still possible to have a decent, balanced outlook on life in general, I think. I've seen Godzilla's Revenge(1969) consistently blasted by those posting their take on this film for the heavy use of stock footage. I understand their disdain but bear in mind that Destroy All Monsters(1968) was a big budget(for the time) film and no doubt Toho wanted to rein in the budget for their next film. A common method for budget cutting is of course using stock footage. I don't think Godzilla's Revenge(1969) will ever be universally liked by the kaiju fandom. I do think, with the passage of time, opinions of this film within the fandom will improve. |

Because they all have different opinions then you, I would love it if fans would agree with me that Godzilla Raids Again is underrated and doesn't deserve the hate it gets but, I don't see it happening. Personally I prefer Godzilla vs Megalon over Godzilla's Revenge since it IMO has better villains, monster suits (Well GR had a better Godzilla suit), better action scenes, better soundtrack (Both movies have weak music but GvsM does have a few decent and memorable ones, of course that is just my opinion) and doesn't have a talking Minya. Overall I'll give Godzilla vs Megalon a 4/10 and Godzilla's Revenge a 3/10. I respect your opinion, I hope you respect mine Godzillaheisei546. |

I try to Respect all opinions, Its something I try to work on. But regarding Godzilla Raids Again being Underatted, It is, and I know a ton of Godzilla fans that think so too. Godzilla Raids Again is good, it really is one of the best Showa Godzilla movies, for its suits action SPX and even story. I do have a few gripes, like Banana Oil! and why did the army leave godzilla on the Iceburg, just return home to think of a better strategy, it really takes the Action down anotch. |

Good to know someone agrees with me about GRA. Personally I know how you can get rid of one of your gripes: Watch the Japanese Version of it, that doesn't have the "Banana Oil" line. Anyway, what is your favorite scene from Godzilla's Revenge?.

I know i'm going to get alot of flak for saying this, but i really liked "Godzilla's Revenge". I got it in one of my Godzilla box sets which i bought down in Christchurch and watched it in Japanese with English subtitles. Apart from the song at the start of the movie and Minilla talking, I was really entertained by it. Sure, it was aimed at the kiddies and most of the monster battles were stock footage, but i don't get why this film gets so much flak. IMO, if you want to see a truly awful godzilla movie, then watch "Godzilla vs. Hedorah". 7/10. |

I don't see why any person should see "flak" for liking Godzilla's Revenge. A person likes what they like and should never IMO be criticized for that. ![]() From what I can tell it's the heavy use of stock footage and a young boy as the story line's central character. |

Well... I am going to do what I have done on a few forums and post my big ole response to Godzilla's Revenge. Here it is... Hi. Most of this post I wrote and put on both KG & TK. Rather than rewrite it. I figured I post it (Though there is some new stuff in it) First off... THIS... is one of my all time favorite movies (I truely enjoy it and I can't wait to own the Japanese version, This was the second movie I saw of the Godzilla series, the first being Godzilla vs Monster Zero). It has a great story about learning to stand up for yourself. It introduces one of my favorite Godzilla foes : GABARA (A cat/ogre thing) I do believe more than any other Godzilla movie, this one has more character development then ANY other Godzilla film. Ichiro Miki (Tomonori Yazaki) goes from being afraid of his bullies, to standing his ground. defeating bank robbers and essentially getting the girl. This movie takes a bad rap for it just being a boy's imaginative dreaming. But if you just take a second and really look at it. It really doesn't have to be interpeted that way. It is possible that Ichiro is in some manner able to form a psychic connection with Kaiju (possibly Minya being the easiest as he is pretty young still at this stage) via some sort of astral projection/telepathy. Possibly taping into Godzilla's mind and sharing the memories/battles with Minya (who was not there for the battles with both Ebirah and daikondura/Giant Vulture - which also neatly explains the stock footage). Now if you want to dismiss the whole psychic thing (and as I may have stated in the past) then just... Dismiss the whole Shobijin (Emi Ito, Yumi Ito) psychic connection with Mothra... Dismiss Princess Mas Selina Salno, of Sergina (Akiko Wakabayashi) from GtTHM and her psychic ablities of prediction involving Godzilla, Rodan, Ghidorah and Mothra... Dismiss Ken Yano (Hiroyuki Kawaseand) the little boy from GvH, who somehow precognetively knew Godzilla was coming (several different times)... Dismiss Princess Nami Azumi (Beru-Bera Lin) from GvMG who not only could summon King Ceesar, She also had a premonition (as Princess Mas Selina from GtTHM did) about the events to come (which also included a flashed strange image of Ghidorah which was wholly unattached to the movie)... ...and though some may disagreed... Dismiss what I believe is some form of a psychic connection between Katsura Mafune (Tomoko Ai) and Titanosaurus from ToMG... There are other examples reaching into both the HEISEI and MELeras (and possibly some from the SHOWAera I am unaware of). This is not including whatever psychic abilities the aliens in the SHOWAera had. I think this movie justly takes it's knocks for the the serious amount of stock footage overkill it has (see above for the reasons I think Ichiro was privy to such intimate details that some people never even knew about). But do other Godzilla films suffer from this too? Sure they do. Virtually all of them use it (Stock footage) in some manner or another. Only a tiny portion of the Minya stuff was stock. They redid the Godzilla teaching Minya to fire Atomic bolts (I think it was the Godzilla suit from DAM) and of course all the Gabara stuff was brand new. Knowing the history as I do now. I wish they had been able to use Baragon or Varan in this film (Since I think they had a new suit 'from what I hear' that was made for DAM... I think it was Baragon - but it wasn't done in time so they substituted Gorosaurus in his place with the attack on Paris). Though it then comes down to dismissing the whole Gabara scenes. Which frankly I don't understand why they (fans) would want to. Gabara was a decent enough looking monster. His abilities were visually awesomel... and frankly who can blame a giant predator for going after the easiest prey. Plus I do believe Toho has never said that it wasn't part of the Godzilla Series. So essentially your stuck with him. LOL There is some pretty serious storytelling going on with the whole Ichiro thing. From his being bullied, to being a latchkey kid (missing his parents), to his imaginative toy-making/Consultant next door neighbor Shinpei Inami (Eisei Amamoto), his rebelious nature and going places he shouldn't, which lead him to stumbling upon the robbers, which ultimately ended with him being captured, fighting and escaping them, then putting his bully in his proper place. To be honest. I am not sure how many of these types of stories were seen in the U.S. at the time. If the issue of Lachkey kids was even done. Dunno if there was anything done about bullying with and about kids Ichrio's age. Frankly I think if you all want to knock a film down... do it to Godzilla vs Gigan (just for the enept human chara in it) or Godzilla vs Megalon (for the lack of a female lead - only time in a Godzilla flick - Even Zone Fighter had a female lead). This was a good story. Watch it again. Be objective. It is easy to jump on the band wagon and dish this film. But I think your missing the larger picture if you do. Just my opinion. cya G7 p.s. again. I am a huge fan of this film. I think it is fun. ![]() |

Okay... here is something that took me a bit of time to pull together. BUT I finally completed it. WARNING... it is pretty long and detailed so "Read at your own discretion!" LOL GODZILLA'S REVENGE! I realize that the abnormalities of this film would give pause to considering this film (historical) canon of the SHOWAverse. That it is far easier to simply dismiss it as not a Godzilla film (by a vast majority - not out of hatred mind you - for some) with little to no consideration of the possibility of it being canon, even though it is embedded in the already imaginary and fictional world of the SHOWAera Godzilla. But there are solid facts that come from this film. MONSTER ISLAND: This atoll is a part of the continuity (fragmented or otherwise) and it came directly from this film (of which it is shown/mentioned in the films following it or even the TV show - Zone Fighter). Oh and the chemical sprayers/radar simply were not on Monster Island in 1969... they were obviously introduced afterwards (Between 1969 - 1972). Kind of like the automatic door introduced in ZF at the mouth of Godzilla‘s cave on Monster Island (All of which was obviously destroyed when Monster Island was ) pretty simple actually. Monster Island has no other name. It is simply that. Monster Island (ask Arbok) and there may be a good reason for that (I’ll get to this later). All the Kaiju on Monster Island are the exact same ones that are mentioned or shown in future films. With Mothra, oddly enough, added to it via GvG - but that is three years later - along with whatever potential equipment they installed. Gabara is of course missing from that three years later list (but I will get to that later as well) So in Godzilla’s Revenge the Kaiju residents are as follows: Godzilla, Minya, Gabara, Rodan (mentioned in name only), Gorosaurus (called Borsarus - somehow here from Mondo Island), Kamacuras, Spiega/Kumonga , Ebirah (Homeless after destruction of Letchi Island), Anguirus, Manda (minus horns and facial barbels) and Daikondura (Giant Condor). GODZILLA’s REVENGE: All of the fights/battles in this film are previous canon events. They are shown again (Exactly as before) and so in an odd twist, Godzilla does indeed (in a way)… get his REVENGE. THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MINYA!: I agree that Minya's ability to change his size and appearing to verbally communicate, stretch the levels of imagination (for some). SO let's tackle the first one. SIZE ALTERNATION: This is a power that has shown up in the SHOWverse. Both Zone Fighter and Jet Jaguar alter there sizes regularly in some fashion (No. ZF is not naturally big - He grows big, it is still Hikari Sakamori/Zone). If you can accept the fact that both these two can alter their sizes and receive mass from somewhere (Both of them with this ability is considered canon in the SHOWAverse). It shouldn’t be all that hard to accept that Minya could be able to displace his mass (Just like the other two do when reverting back to human size). Minya may be of the same species as Godzilla, but that doesn't mean that his and Godzilla’s mutations are absolutely the same (In the SHOWAverse). It also is not the first time Minya has used powers that Godzilla has never shown. Such as when within the egg, Minya was able to summon Godzilla in SoG (This is particularly apparent in the Japanese version). Shrinking/Size reduction is a moot and potentially unsafe power in a Kaiju world (especially considering where Minya lives - formerly on Sollgel Island then to Monster Island and finally Monsterland/Ogasawara Island). Anyhow, both ZF*/JJ having the talent to acquire mass and again decrease it, Which is actually an excellent example and makes a better point than I EVER could (Reprogramming still does not explain the existence of JJ being able to accomplish it or how). Both of them with this ability is considered canon in the SHOWAverse. *NOTE: The Terro-Beasts from ZF typically did it as well - the fact is, it is possible. In view of all the strange abilities that Kaiju can have. It would be ridiculous for it not to be considered a possible/potential ability (Irregardless of how speculative it may sound - Minya did it. So thus you have to consider the fact that he CAN do it). KAIJU COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNICATION WITH KAIJU: This has happened quite a few times in Kaiju Films (including the film I am discussing). It happened between: Mothra and the Shobijin (M, MvG, GtTHM & GvSM/EhotD). Godzilla, Rodan & Mothra (GtTHM) Godzilla & Minya himself (which is understandable - SoG & GR). Anguirus & Godzilla (GvG) Megalon & the Seatopians (GvMeg). JJ & Godzilla (GvMeg). ZF & Godzilla (ZF - episodes 4, 15, 21 & 25). King Caesar and Godzilla (GvMG). Then there is a diminutive likelihood of understanding happening between Godzilla and the humans in the films where they call out to him (chiefly GvSM/EhotD). Muans and Manda (A). And just for the heck of it… between Kong and the humans (KKE - which is pretty standard for Kong). Might as well toss in Sanda and Gaira being able to communicate, along with Sanda and Akemi while I am at it (WotG). SO... we have established that communication is not only possible. But it IS canon as well. For good measure I am going to further discuss the Shobijin. They speak with Mothra. Which is also a wholly different species intercommunication going on (irregardless of the Shobijin’s bizarre size... they are still human for all intents and purposes, This isn‘t the HEISEI series or whatever followed) - the Shobijin appear to be able to communicate with everything (they did seem to comprehend what both Godzilla and Rodan were saying in GtTHM). So there is no reason to dismiss the fact that communication (and not just on a verbal plane) with Kaiju is possible on a higher level than animal (Numerous Kaiju in the SHOWAverse exhibited a higher grasp of the world around them - Also canon). JUXTAPOSING ICHIRO: So... then we finally get to poor picked on little Ichiro Miki. Yes. He is a kid who's parents work too much (reflecting the social events of the times). He is an imaginative and lonely kid in missing his parents attentions, Though not so lonely. He does have his little girlfriend Saichiko (who he is holding hands with at the beginning of GR) and Shinpei Inami the Toy Consultant/Inventor, who comes off like a protective uncle. Yes, Ichiro does adore Kaiju (even to the point of being teased about it by the bullies - who even make mock monster sounds at him - but never call them unreal). At no point in the film is it EVER said that the Kaiju are fictional creatures. It also wouldn’t be the first time Kaiju have been treated dismissively (Rodan portion of GtTHM, Watch it again to see what I mean). Even though said Kaiju had clearly razed Japan in the past (also SHOWA canon - If you can make allowances for the inconsistencies of previous and future films and still maintain some sort of fragmented continuity, then there is no reason not to include this one). Yes it could easily (and does) get dismissed that Ichiro is simply day-dreaming or being a fan of Godzilla’s movies. I reflect that in some manner Ichiro is able to reach Monster Island, Sees events from Godzilla’s previously not so distant past and I am about to tell you how and why. First off, I am going to re-establish the fact that these movies are within the unreal and make-believe world of TOHO’s giant atomic monster called Godzilla (and other Kaiju). Due to these films, they also have given us a vibrant and rich History that came before and after the motion picture I am discussing (Godzilla‘s Revenge). So asking you to remember that might help you all relax a little about suspending your ability to accept a not so standard view on the events of this film. (I am not being any more creative than the originators of all of these films were - plus I am primarily using their own canon material to substantiate what I am about to discuss) SO… Let’s learn a little something more about Ichiro that may not be obvious by what you have allowed yourself to see, things you might not have taken into account or possibly realized. Ichiro is raised in (of course) Japan. We know next to nothing about him or his (short) past. But in the context of the SHOWAverse. Godzilla would be a consistent in this and his world. Therefore, general knowledge of Kaiju would most likely be a big thing in this fictional world (especially Japan) where Kaiju are stomping around. The likelihood of Ichiro knowing/remembering Kaiju (and what they can do) since he was four or five (figuring he is ten in this film) is pretty probable. If you go with the SHOWAverse’s fragmented history (Which many of you know and possibly do). Ichiro could conceivably remember the Kaiju events/attacks from such historical (Film) events as KKvG, MvG, GtTHM & GvMZ (likely the attacks of such further creatures as the ones that appear in D, FctW, WotG and KKE as well). Making Ichiro aware of potentially eight public recorded attacks and considering WHERE he lives, he was likely adjacent to the action. This then makes for twelve possible Kaiju he knows (and his knowledge of them is pretty firm), Plus he somehow knows of both Monster Island and Minya - which bumps up the Kaiju to fifteen - adding Kumonga and Kamacuras - who‘s names he knows as well (But in the SHOWAverse anything Godzilla would most certainly be newsworthy - so knowledge of Monster Island absolutely does not seem far-fetched - artist Gengo Kotaka knew about it in GvG - so too would Ichiro) Ichiro’s mentioning of Kaiju in front of Shinpei, does not raise any negative comments or strange looks from him. The conversation is rather “Matter of factly”. This even happens at the films end when Ichiro mentions that Minya was with him during the kidnapping, All the reporters looked a bit shocked. They repeated his name like it was common knowledge with some of their faces seeming to recognize the name. Instead of going. The Kid is crazy… they actually start to pursue him to do what reporters do… ask more questions. Shinpei steps in saying: Shinpei: "Ahhh wait a second..." Shinpei: "Minya is the Son... of Godzilla." Shinpei: "The boys got the idea that the monster is his friend and protector." Shinpei: "Yes... as we adults always look up to big heroes... this child is inspired by a monster." There is absolutely no mention of Godzilla (Kaiju) being fictional in Ichiro‘s world. There is absolutely nothing showing that Godzilla (Kaiju) is (are) simply a movie character(s), no posters, no images whatsoever. Ichiro never asks anyone if they want to see a Godzilla film, or goes and sees one. He never mentions the films at all. Just the Kaiju themselves (which of course happens in EVERY Kaiju film). CHILDREN AND KAIJU: For the record. Ichiro would not be the only child (in the SHOWAverse) that was fascinated by Godzilla and other Kaiju. Watch KKvG again and you will see a scene where a unnamed little kid wants to potentially see Godzilla (even when Godzilla was still firmly considered a menace). Watch GvH with the character of Ken Yano (Who insisted Godzilla was coming to the rescue… and was right… more than once). The boy Rokuro Ibuki from GvMeg who not only likes Godzilla… but a relative of his actually built Jet Jaguar, who Rokuro socializes with. I might as well throw in the two boys from GtTHM who wanted to see Mothra during the Q&A session with the Shobijin - and they did see Mothra via the Shobijin - watch the film again. It happens (All again canon) . There are two things that Ichiro does that shows the viewer something more is going on. 1) Ichiro can communicate with Minya. Communication can be done with Kaiju as has already been established. Because the Kaiju themselves… Do, Can and Have done so in the past (canon). 2) Ichiro can transpose himself to Monster Island (In all probability due to that strange little fabricated device of his initially). Ichiro does indeed use the odd little makeshift device. It by all intents and purposes works and when it is plugged in. It squawks and chirps. When Ichiro initially moves to find Monster Island’s location there is a weird sparkling red halo ring around the scene, then twice things get a negative effect to them. Each time a scene changes we get that negative effect. Once when the people disappear and next when Ichiro disappears from the empty plane and is on the island. Ichiro arrives on Monster Island seeing Godzilla first (not Minya) It is here that a rewind effect starts to happen. We start to see some of Godzilla’s previous conflicts repeated (Stock footage) and scenes of the Island residents (as stated at the beginning). Somehow Ichiro is able to see these past battles in enormously great detail. How is he able to see these events? But one thing is for certain. He is in proximity of a creature that experienced them. Godzilla. You know that huge atomic expelling scary monster. He sees Godzilla (and Minya) battle Kamacuras, Daikondura (Giant Condor), Ebriah and Kumonga. I believe that Ichiro is experiencing these events via Godzilla’s memories. How he is doing it is not explained (possibly via his little makeshift device). But it isn’t necessarily NOT happening . Then of course there is the stuff that is happening in the now. The appearance of Gabara and Ichiro being chased by the Kamacuras (who is established as being on Monster Island three years later in GvG). The oddest and possibly the most telling scene is when Ichiro drifts back from Monster Island to Japan and Minya clutches his head and shakes around for no apparent reason, acting as if something is happening to him (there is no reason for him to do so unless something is happening to him). Maybe it is some kind of psychic rapport being disconnected? It clearly has an effect on Minya combined with the strange noise associated when it happens When Ichiro returns to Monster Island we again get the sparking red halo effect and hear the jet. He now has the headset on. Gabara appears and Ichiro runs Ichiro is captured by the bank robbers. This time he goes to Monster Island without the aid of the device. No more past events appear. Oddly enough when he does shift to Monster Island again. A red light appears on his face (reminiscent of when a similar thing happened to Princess-Prophet Mas Selina Salno, just before she escaped away from an exploding plane. - GtTHM) Do you think it was intended that the kids watching the film were suppose to not believe Ichiro was going to Monster Island? Where is the fun in that? Was it ever explicitly said that he wasn’t? Was he chastised by anyone for daydreaming about that? No… he wasn’t. Just an assumption on most everyone’s part that what was happening wasn‘t real. But 100’ tall atomic energy firing monsters and enormous island protecting Moths are. You can’t say one is possible for one film of this genre, then turn and utterly deny the prospect that the other is as well. Why can’t Ichiro go to Monster Island? Cause he is a little kid? Cause he hasn’t got the most ideal home life? This is a fictional world… ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! Like… 6” tall twin girls that talk to gigantic moths (All M films). Not only that they gave a shared viewing of Larva Mothra to a entire live and viewing audience (GtTHM). God forbid Ichiro talks to Minya in some manner though… Cause he is a little kid so therefore he MUST be dreaming!! Like… A Princess not only seeing the future, but she floated down to the earth from an exploding plane to avoid death, Not including her alien heritage (GtTHM). BUT... Ichiro couldn’t possibly transpose himself (possibly at first with the aid of a device he manufactured). That is TOO unreal… right? An inventor who makes a robot that not only accomplishes all the amazing feats it does, but can talk with Kaiju as well. (GvMeg) Though there is no way someone else could possibly build something (in a science fiction film) that might help them get to a place where they want to go. Maybe it even gives them the ability to understand something they normally couldn’t. Ken Yano having wide awake future premonitions about Godzilla coming (GvH). Yet Ichiro can't see things from the recent past (Such as Godzilla's previous battles)? Another Princess that can summon a Giant Guardian Monster by singing and has visions of doom and gloom. Absolutely was destined to do this since she was a child. BUT a boy can't befriend a monster and consider it his guardian protector? A psychic can tell a mother that her missing at sea son is still alive and send her other son hurtling across the Pacific after his lost brother (GvtSM/EhotD). BUT there is no way that other psychic stuff doesn't exist? because it isn't described... EVEN though it is clearly shown. ALIENS!!! I won't even bother with this one. That is cruising on the UTTERLY fantastic. Ichiro was going to Monster Island there is no doubt in my mind about that. He wasn’t day dreaming. He was a kid in a science fiction film about Gigantic Monsters that rampage and fight one another. It is the same science fiction that makes it possible for a little boy to travel to an island full of city stomping monsters and befriend a small monster. GABARA I don’t have to have a reason for Gabara’s existence, anymore than one is needed for Godzilla (Pre-mutated Odo Island creature), Anguirus, Rodan, Manda, Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, King Caesar, Varan, Baragon, Kumonga, Kamacuras, Dagora, Hedorah, Maguma or any of the 26+ Kaiju from ZF. How many of them have solid back-stories or origins relating to them or their massive sizes? Monster Island I doubt got it’s name from Godzilla. Godzilla was never a permanent resident of any locale up to that point. He was always on the move. SO… for an island to get a name such as “Monster Island” there would have to be a Monster on it. I say the creature responsible for that name being attributed to it was Gabara. Gabara has probably never left the island. Why he is there is a mystery. Where he came from is as well. But no less than any other Kaiju. The how’s and whys of him being there are irrelevant. He just is. So therefore it is a likely scenario that someone/sailors who saw him on the shoreline… likely gave this island the name they did. MONSTER ISLAND. He would not be the only Kaiju indigenous to this location on the pacific… there is at least a Toho Kong and a Daidako (Giant Octopus) on or near Farou Island (KKvG). So with Gabara’s Monster Island being the closest for many of them. That is where the Kaiju from Sollgel Island migrated to. Matter of fact for some strange reason so did many other Kaiju (Manda is a sea creature located in that general area of the Pacific, Rodan flies, Gorosaurus must have tunneled there and Anguirus either swam or tunneled as well). Minya did not name Gabara… Ichiro did (and based it rightly so on his own bully - Gabara). No Kaiju has ever named itself. They have always been coined a title moniker by a human. The logical conclusion is. Ichiro gave a name to the menace that plagued Minya. The same goes for Minya knowing the human name for Godzilla. In whatever way that Minya and Ichiro could communicate. The name Gabara was applied to both of them. Understandable. Technically Minya would consider his mutant foe to be exactly like Ichiro’s Gabara. There is no doubt that Ichiro clearly communicates ONLY with Minya in the film. I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t? If the 6” twins can talk to a giant Larva/Moth. Or if a Princess can call forth a Guardian Monster. If it can happen with one set of characters in the SHOWAverse… It can happen with another. For some reason Ichiro can and DOES communicate with Minya. SO therefore Ichiro must have given Minya the impression of what his Gabara was about… and Minya just applied it to his own foe. That having been said. Gabara is some sort of mutant energy wielding Reptilian-Cat thing. He doesn’t have to be an Dream Oni or Ogre, anymore than Godzilla is just some dinosaur. He stalks the island and electrocutes things. That is much easier to accept than - Anguirus, Rodan and Gorosaurs returning from the dead (Including Varan and Baragon). Nebulans: How they missed Gabara. WELL... they missed Grengo and his little band of Urban-Warriors (more than once - and were fooled by a hideous drawing - making leeway for Gabara hiding in plain sight a possibility). They couldn't find Takashi (Computers-electronics expert/Godzilla tower captive) Shima's sister Machiko Shima after she stole the summoning tape. Just doesn't put a lot on their plate to me in their ability to be all that observant. Must be a Roach thing! Besides. It is always possible that Monster Island got too crowded for Gabara’s tastes… and he simple found another Atoll or went to the equally as big but less populated Farou Island, before the Nebulans arrival a few years later. Kong was never seen again after his film, Did he suddenly cease to exist? HONDA’s lack of interest in doing more Tokusatsu films at the time has little merit on what would become the fragmented history of the SHOWAverse. Even if the importance of the more human side of the films (which I personally would have loved more of) was his goal at the time. TOHO Kaiju films continued to build on said history. Dragging in all kinds of aspects from this particular film. There are those of you out there that may believe I am grasping at straws in this wholly fictional world of Godzilla. It is a science fiction and fantasy world. Anything is possible in such a place… including a little boy traveling to a distant island and talking to a Monster. I realize the average viewer may only see Godzilla’s Revenge through one set of narrow eyes. Only because they don’t’ know, can’t see the bigger picture or do not have all the information to allow them to grasp even deeper or beyond what is potentially presented in this film. The facts I have stated in the above are not false to me and I do not stretch the possibilities of the SHOWAverse beyond anything that has not happened previously. Everything I have remarked on does indeed have a basis or such similar events have occurred in other films, that to not consider them only shows exactly how close minded a person is about the potential truths I have pointed out about this film. *whew!* G7 ![]() and for you non-believers.. I'll take this over Godzilla vs Megalon anyday! The Thing about Godzilla's Revenge is that the stock footage of better movies makes the experience standable. People should really sight Godzilla vs Megalon as the worst Godzilla film, If shot in three weeks doesn't do it, the Godzilla suit was very cheap, and Jet Jaguar is absolutely ridiculous. Day and Night switch all the time, Its Garbage, and for me, the worst Godzilla movie ever. |

Alot of people hate on this movie and when you compare it to some of the others it just dosn't hold up. But the other night my 18 month old daughter say some of my Godzilla toys on the shelf and she started saying "RRRAAAARRRRRR!!!!!" So I let her play with them. She loves them! So I decided to let her watch her first Godzilla movie: Godzilla's Revenge. She loved it! Pointing at the tv sayign rrraaarrrr, clapping, and saying YAY! To most of now, who are older, Godzilla's Revenge is just blown off as a cheap kids movie full of stock footage. But To younger kids, Ichiro and Minya's battle with Bullys is priceless. She loved it! and now it has opened the door. We watch a Godzilla movie every night. |

You know, growing up watching this movie, there were actually good reviews/ratings for this Godzilla movie in TV Guide or even in my local TV Week about it being a good children's movie and such. Even then, I kind of disagreed, but continued to watch it just because it was a Godzilla movie. |

I just think it's a big departure from what the series was. Plus the Stock Footage just spells NO EFFORT. It's an ok movie to get youger viewers into the series, however when they grow up, they will understand why Godzilla fan disliked it. They too may dismiss it with age. |

Indeed...but I still preferred Minya's voice to that braying sound he made in other sequences. |

Probably the oddest entry in the series. I personally love the movie; but in no way will I say it's a great film. The story was rather laughable; but I enjoyed the performance of the characters. In regards to the stock footage, yes, it's a piss-poor way to make a movie, but in this film they did a good job tying it in with the setting. I say this because all of the stock footage is lifted from the "island" films, Sea Monster and Son. The reason for stating this is because the main setting for the monster footage takes place on an island. While it's hard to look past the multiple Godzilla suits, to me it wasn't as hard as, say, Godzilla vs. Gigan, which was the most horrible example of poor stock footage use I've ever seen. It really depends on what state of mind you choose to view this film in. |
