Blu-ray would be cool. From what I've read, the 2-disc release isn't really an improvement on the original release. But if I were blu-ray capable I'd definitely consider getting this one on Blu-ray.

Assuming you're referring to the standard DVD 2-disc release, Crow, then you're right: I recently bought the 2-disc collector's edition(standard DVD) and compared it to the older DVD release I have of this film: the print quality looks the same on both. The difference, I found, was in the audio: there's a momentary distortion of the audio on the older(original) single disc release of this film(near the end credits as Klaatu's ship begins its ascent from the baseball field) but on the 2 disc re-release there is no distortion. This problem is minor. I will say I've heard that same audio "hiccup", for lack of a better word, on AMC's broadcasts of The Day The Earth Stood Still(1951).

I considered buying the Blu-Ray release of this movie but screenshots I looked at looked only marginally better(if that) than the standard def DVDs.

Have you seen the recent remake starring Keanu Reeves as "Klaatu"?

Yes. I thought the CGI was very well done, but the rest of the film was mediocre.

I have only ever liked Keanu Reeves in the Matrix Trilogy. I thought he was terrible in his non-matrix films.
