In another instance that has convinced me that the Cincy Bengals WR formerly known as "Chad Johnson" has all but lost his mind, this player now has a new name that will display on his jersey: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-bengals-ochocinco&prov=ap&type=lgns

loco2

He needs to focus on being a better player/teammate...cut out all this unnecessary BS and just play the game.

Long time Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson is taking a leave of absence from his duties to undergo a second round of chemotherapy for cancer, which he was diagnosed with earlier this year after the Eagles NFC championship game loss to Arizona: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4175216&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

Best wishes to Jim Johnson and here's wishing him a speedy recovery.

The Humane Society Of The U.S. has agreed to work with former Falcons QB Michael Vick to try and stop the culture among many that not only condones but promotes organized dog fighting: http://www.ajc.com/news/content/shared-gen/ap/National/FBN_Vick_Humane_Society.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab

This is a good cause and well worth the effort for Michael Vick...and the U.S Humane Society. Hopefully Michael Vick can help effect real change among the dog fighting "culture" in America that will some day result in the cessation of this horrendous and barbaric exploitation and abuse of animals.

Now that Michael Vick has been released from federal prison and will serve home confinement for the next eight weeks, the debate over whether Vick should be reinstated for the 2009 season, the 2010 season or at all has revived. As this article illustrates opinions vary on when Vick should be reinstated to the NFL, and what team he would be best suited for: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9593200/Roundtable:-Who-will-sign-Michael-Vick?

New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison is calling it quits after a fifteen year career: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9639130/Patriots-safety-Harrison-announces-retirement

Harrison's timing is good. He's won two Super Bowl rings and played in the league a long time, including a stint with the San Diego Chargers and then New England Patriots. There will be some debate, I would imagine, about whether Harrison gets into the NFL Hall Of Fame. I think he deserves to get in. winky

One thing is absolutely certain, now that this stellar NFL safety is hanging up his cleats for good: NFL QBs and WR's will be suffering a lot less Excedrin PM headaches and spending less time on Mondays soaking in hot tubs because they're no longer being blasted by this guy.

Once considered the dirtiest player in the NFL but always a stellar player. Wish him well in post football life.

Trent Green should have retired a long time ago...glad to see him finally hang it up.

As for Vick, good luck...you'll need it.

I think the main motivation for him wanting to play another season is so he can finally get back at the Packers. (twice a year) Hard to beleive that we're just over four weeks away from the opening of NFL training camps. I can't wait, and some may be surprised at a couple of predictions that I have in store. (particularly about my Cowboys)

[trash talk] If you're going to predict that the Dallas Cowboys will have a better than .500 record for the 2009 season, Russ then yes I would be surprised. tongue-2 [/trash talk]

What did you guys think of the sentence handed out by the judge in the Donte Stallworth DUI and manslaughter case? Also, anyone besides me think NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to suspend Stallworth for at least eight games...or even possibly the entire 2009 NFL season?

Well since Stallworth did corporate with the law/court and the family of the deceased settled things in civil court and are fine with the criminal court ruling...I have no problem with it. Sucks for Stallworth though, he seems like a decent guy and now he has to live with the fact that his mistake killed a man.

As for the NFL, well the league does have an image to keep...and Stallworth did kill someone and pleaded guilty...but let's be honest...Stallworth is not an NFL knucklehead like Pacman or Chris Henry and etc...but I can see him gone for a whole season just to make an example out of him. It's also interesting to see how this plays out because it could affect Vick also.

Former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair has died. He was 36. McNair and an unidentified woman were found shot to death inside a Nashville, TN condo today. McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Very few details have been released, thus far, by the police. McNair's sudden and tragic death has understandably sent shock waves through the NFL community. Steve McNair played thirteen years in the league, drafted out of division I-AA Alcorn State. McNair was an NFL co-MVP in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts. He played in one Super Bowl, in January, 2000 vs the St. Louis Rams.

Steve McNair epitomized toughness, dedication and sacrifice, all of these qualities making him one of the most respected players, and men, among other players and coaches throughout the league. He leaves behind a wife and four children.

As a dedicated fan of the Tennessee Titans and their former star QB this news tears a hole right through my heart.
