Former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair has died. He was 36. McNair and an unidentified woman were found shot to death inside a Nashville, TN condo today. McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Very few details have been released, thus far, by the police. McNair's sudden and tragic death has understandably sent shock waves through the NFL community. Steve McNair played thirteen years in the league, drafted out of division I-AA Alcorn State. McNair was an NFL co-MVP in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts. He played in one Super Bowl, in January, 2000 vs the St. Louis Rams.

Steve McNair epitomized toughness, dedication and sacrifice, all of these qualities making him one of the most respected players, and men, among other players and coaches throughout the league. He leaves behind a wife and four children.

As a dedicated fan of the Tennessee Titans and their former star QB this news tears a hole right through my heart.

Late edit: anyone wishing to leave condolences can sign a "guest book" at Legacy.com dedicated to the late Steve McNair. The link: http://www.legacy.com/gb2/default.aspx?bookid=4428240587114
Very bad news about McNair...even worse is that his death has released some of the skeletons in his closet. He was definitely a class act on the field and a hell of a warrior. This man gave it all on the field and it's a shame he never got a ring.

The Tennessee Titans are planning to open LP Field, in Nashville, TN which is the teams' home playing field, to fans and residents of the city Wednesday and Thursday of this week to allow those who arrive a chance to pay their respects to the greatest player in the history of this franchise: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4312013

Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, understandably emotional and with a sometimes wavering voice, tells the media that everyone should focus on the positives of (the late) Steve McNair: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4309728

Police have now confirmed that Steve McNair was shot dead as he slept: http://www.ajc.com/news/content/shared-gen/ap/General_Football_News/FBN_McNair_Killed.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab

To think of what this man did at a small college like Alcorn State, then to endure all those years of hits to carve out a great NFL career, and to earn the respect and admiration of league players and coaches...all of it ended by a jealous twenty year old female.

This is no goddamn way for a man, any man, to die. Nono

Thousands of people, including former Titans and Ravens teammates, attended the funeral of Steve McNair this past Saturday in Mississippi. After the funeral McNair was laid to rest in a private burial service: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9795696/Thousands-attend-funeral-for-ex-NFL-QB-McNair

My already low opinion of former Titans and Cowboys CB Adam "Pacman" Jones has just gotten lower after watching the video in this article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Video-Pacman-Jones-and-Jermaine-Dupri-make-it-r;_ylt=ApAEnHbEeIweMwokojzIIWdDubYF?urn=nfl,177210

It is my sincere hope that Pacman Jones never plays another down of NFL football. winky

I'm with you Pack, get this guy out of football into either a padded room or a prison cell. He is truly a waste of human life to say the least.

There are reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick met today to discuss Vick's future, or lack of future, in the league: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9835022/Report:-Vick,-Goodell-met-at-N.J.-security-firm

Prediction: the NFL commish reinstates Vick but also suspends Michael Vick for either the first four or first eight games of the 2009 NFL season.

Late edit: interim Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, 35 has been hired as the full time defensive coordinator for the team because former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson continues to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. Jim Johnson's return to the Eagles remains in question, the 68 year old Johnson, considered one of the league's top defensive masterminds, on hiatus since he was initially diagnosed with cancer back in May of this year.

It will be interesting to see how the Eagles' defense will be this year...I wonder if McDermott will change the style or leave it alone. Also still wishing Jim Johnson a speedy recovery.

Here's the latest on the "Michael Vick" situation: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4353468

Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens, a man seemingly never at a loss for words, and regarding anything, told reporters that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspending Michael Vick at the start of the 2009 season would be "ridiculous". Owens, because of his ego and frequently misguided comments could arguably be deemed a new species of erect humanoid called "homo dipshitus", were anyone in the scientific community so inclined.

More on Terrell Owens "Vick" comments to the media: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4356802

I'm actually shocked to hear that TO spoke out about Vick...nice to see him get some support. It seems people want Vick hung over his charges...don't see anyone wanting the same thing with Stallworth or Matt Jones...

Here's the NFL commish's final ruling on Michael Vick: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=txvickreinstated&prov=st&type=lgns

confuzed

I thought Vick would get no more than a four game suspension. Instead Vick cannot play in at least the first six(6) regular season games.

That's extreme in my book...I usually agree with the commish but not on this...4 games max...not 6.

Long time Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has died. He was 68. Johnson had recently been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his spine and taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Eagles, beginning this past May. Eagles officials announced his death today.

There's nothing I can say about Jim Johnson that hasn't already been said. He was simply one of the best NFL defensive coordinators ever and will be greatly missed by the Philadelphia Eagles organization. The NFL lost a valued and terrific member of its fraternity today.
