Well, Oakland made a good move there. And David Carr is a solid QB (when he's not getting punished.) |

I think Shell was a perfect fit for the Raiders, he was part of two championship teams with them and he has the Raider mentality of 'Just Win, Baby'. I think Al Davis, like so many owners these days is quick to toss a coach aside when things get a little bleak and probably if Shell had been there all along, they may have been to more SB's and possibly won some....that's saying a lot for a die-hard Broncos fan! ;) As for David Carr, I think things should come together nicely for him from an offensive point, with Kubiak running the show, now. I agree, Legionmaster, Carr's got a lot of promise, when he's not flat on his back! |

Any team where the fans dress as Darth Vader and wear silver and black Darth Maul make-up is cool in my book! |

You know, another quarterback spent his first two seasons getting hammered and running for his life before team management decided to upgrade the offensive line, and once he was given time in the pocket he turned out to be pretty good. His name: John Elway. Not saying Carr is going to be another "Elway", but having seen flashes of this guy when not staring up at defensive tackles and linebackers from the horizontal position, I can tell you that God only knows the damage he could do to opposing secondaries if provided with a good offensive line. The potential is there, and I think the Houston Texans owner and management see it. :) |

Well, today is the Pro Bowl in Honalulu, Hawaii. Who do you think wil win? I'm leaning towards AFC. Generally, they have better players. Especially at QB this year. |

Probably the AFC. Like you said, at least temporarily, they seem to have the majority of better players. |

Indeed. Since Art Shell was rehired he has been a veritable bull in a china shop, telling everyone he "will hit them in the mouth". This was explained as a reference to him getting his players excited about playing again. Good idea. Now if Coach Shell can just get them excited about playing other teams... ...<hissing noises>...

I have been an NFL fan since I was around 10 years old. My favorite team is the Tennessee Titans. ----Thread starter: during this time of year, the NFL's off-season, teams traditionally scramble around to sign free agents, players who are free, contractually, to sign with any team they choose(including re-signing with the team they have most recently played with). There has been lots of activity within the last 48 hours. Among the more significant:

Seems to be plenty of off season action, this year. I'm a Denver Broncos fan and I'm still disgusted that they released Mike Anderson and Trevor Pryce. It appears that some of the teams that were so close to having a great year, last season, may have just pushed themselves to a better 2006 season. The addition of Culpepper to the Dolphins lineup may be very interesting, especially if as mentioned, he has recovered from the knee injury and Williams at RB has another solid season. I know defense is what really holds a team together, but add a solid QB, receiving corp and a running game and that really is a tough combination to beat. Me, I think my Broncos may have shot themselves in the foot with some of their off season moves.....the team I am looking forward to watching this season is the Gary Kubiak helmed, Texans. Depending on their choice for first pick, they could be a lot of fun to watch, this season. |

Indeed, and unfortunately for Denver, it wasn't with a BB gun eyebrow . The two players you mentioned who departed Denver will both be missed, in particular Mike Anderson, a former U.S. Marine and bonafide tough guy who loves to block and knock opposing players on their duffs. He is also an effective, and certainly bruising, runner in his own right. . Despite these two player subtractions I believe Denver will again be a contending team next year, and the AFC West might be theirs for the taking because: 1. new Oakland head coach Art Shell will need more than one season to turn the Raiders around 2. San Diego just said adios to Drew Brees and hello to Philip Rivers, who some experts and NFL insiders believe is another Dan Marino in the making. Maybe, but not this coming season, as Mr. Rivers adjusts to life as a starting NFL QB, basically on-the-job-training. The threat to Denver will come from, IMO, the Kansas City Chiefs. They have a new(and IMO very good) head coach in Herman Edwards, himself a former NFL standout player, a DB with the Philadelphia Eagles. Edwards will help bring defense back to the fold in KC, I think, which should concern the opposing teams on their schedule, because we know they have a great offense. :)
