Hate to say, but being from Michigan, I have no faith in our Lions (pussy cats). Unfortunately football has never been the same for me since Dan Marino left the game and the dolphins. I watch them and keep hoping. I have a tough time changing my ways. I guess my next best team would be the colts. I guess it doesn't really matter, but football is my game, and I watch what ever team is playing and like to root for the underdogs. crazy

Well, Queen Bee, Marion may not be the QB for your Dolphins, but perhaps now that Culpepper has joined the Dolphins, you might have more to cheer for in the upcoming season.

Unfortunately, I see both Trevor Pryce and Mike Anderson signed with the Ravens, I have a feeling those cuts could jump up and bite the Broncos in the behind, come playoff time.......if we even get that far, this season! :(

Marion was an old CB for us. ;)

Latest update regarding the shell game that is NFL free agency:

  • 1. CB Lawyer Milloy has signed a 3 year deal with the Atlanta Falcons
  • 2. Terrell Owens has signed a three-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys
  • 3. QB Jeff Garcia has been signed by the Philadelphia Eagles
  • 4. Signed by the Tennessee Titans- LB David Thornton, S Chris Hope, WR David Givens, lineman Kevin Mawae

  • 5. CB Tyrone Poole has been signed by the Oakland Raiders
  • 6. QB Drew Brees has been signed by the New Orleans Saints
  • 7. RB Edgerrin James has been signed by the Arizona Cardinals
  • 8. QB Jon Kitna has been signed by the Detroit Lions
Late edit: DT John Abraham has signed with the Atlanta Falcons
K Adam Vinatieri has signed with the Colts(meaning Mike Vanderjagt, who Peyton Manning once referred to in an interview as "our liquored-up kicker", is out.

3/22/06-QB Aaron Brooks has signed a two year deal with the Oakland Raiders
DB Chris Crocker has signed with the Atlanta Falcons
In the works: it appears that the Dallas Cowboys are close to signing former Colts kicker Mike Vanderjerk, er, I mean Mike Vanderjagt tongue-1

Well, I havene't updated this in awhile, so a few bytes about my favorite teams:
Atlanta Falcons-drafted CB Jimmy Williams(VA Tech) and Jerious Norwood(RB-Miss. State) thumbs up
Tennessee Titans-drafted QB Vince Young(Texas) and LenDale White(USC) thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up
Philadelphia Eagles-drafted DT Broderick Bunkley(Fla State) thumbs up

Miscellaneous: looks like Dolphins RB Ricky Williams may be playing in the Canadian Football League-recall that he was recently suspended for the entire 2006 NFL season by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue for a fourth positive drug test, the positive test not for marijuana, but for some other substance thumbs down

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has informed the NFL that he wants two NFL teams in Los Angeles. ---In Packmule's opinion one is definitely possible, but two is not. confused

Marcus Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons All-Pro QB Michael Vick, has been invited to the Miami Dolphins mini-camp as a tryout... ... a message to Marcus Vick from Packmule: if the tryout fails to get you noticed, there's always barber college

Former Detroit Lions QB will end up in Miami, eventually. Some acrimony has developed between the two teams over compensation for the young, and to date inconsistent QB. Personally, I think he will do well in Miami.

Frankly, most of the Bowls in the past 5 years have been pretty bad. (Damn Patriots! ) If I was alive then, I might have said the climax of th ePerfect 1972 Dolphins. :D

Actually, I was alive(10 years old). The Super Bowl that capped the Dolphins perfect 17-0 season was their 14-7 triumph over George Allen's "Over-the-hill" gang, the Washington Redskins. This game was made famous due to how the Redskins scored their only touchdown, on a miscue by Miami kicker Garo Yepremian, who, after a botched field-goal attempt attempted a forward pass(looked more like a wounded duck)-the "pass"(if you can call it that) was intercepted by a Washington player and run back for a touchdown. The pass by the Dolphins kicker is still, to this day, widely regarded by most NFL fans as one of the most bizarre plays in all NFL history. eyebrow

As for Harrington, I think a change of venue may definitely improve his success. I see my Broncos grabbed themselves a QB in the draft, but the name and school escapes me at the moment. I think at the end of day one of the draft, those in the know rated the Broncos as doing very well on day one.

This upcoming season may be very interesting, could see some teams not usually in the mix having a good year. As it stands, the Cardinals look like with some of the draft choices and off-season pick-ups, they could be if nothing else, fun to watch!

I'm definitely looking forward to Autumn and the football season. Mr Green

The Denver Broncos drafted Jay Cutler out of Vanderbilt University, a member of the SEC(South-Eastern Conference). Cutler ia a tall, rangy, and physically tough player with a quick release not seen since Dan Marino. In fact there are some NFL people who think Cutler may very well become the NFL's next Dan Marino. There are many similarities between the two. Despite Vanderbilt's miserable W-L record in the SEC, no one could blame Cutler. Vanderbilt is known as one the top academic institutions in the U.S.-that also translates, unfortunately, into tougher academic admissions standards, and puts the school, right or wrong, at a decided disadvantage in recruiting the same level of athletic talent that other schools in the SEC, like football powerhouses Georgia, Florida, LSU, and Auburn, can.
Jay Cutler has a confidence about him, almost a swagger, and performed well at the NFL combines. Will he be a starter in Denver? Who can say? Plummer had a great year last year, and I do not see any reason to think that he won't again have a solid year in 2006. It would not surprise me to see Cutler as the backup to Plummer before the end of the 2006 season. IMO a good pick by Denver. thumbs up

Re: Arizona Cardinals-picked up perennial 1500 yard rusher Edgerrin James as a free agent acquisition and drafted Matt Leinart(out of USC). That, combined with the undeniable coaching talent of Dennis Green and WR's like David Boston and Larry Fitzgerald, makes the Cardinals, IMO, an up-and-coming team. Will they make the playoffs in 2006? That might be a stretch, but an 8-8 record is definitely possible for this improving team.

Picking up where I last off(seems so long ago tongue-1 ) I again call attention to the Houston Texans, who IMO blew it by not drafting Reggie Bush with the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. They selected Mario Williams, a pass-rusher out of NC State. Mario Williams will be a solid NFL player, no doubt, but I think Bush would have lifted general overall fan interest(not to mention sales of season tickets) for the Texans franchise.

In Packmule's opinion the Houston Texans selecting Mario Williams #1 in the NFL draft= thumbs down

Thanks very much for the info on Cutler, I really knew nothing about him, then my Dad brought me down his Sports Illustrated, today and one issue did cover the NFL draft, so that gave me a little more info, but you gave it all to me in a neat little paragraph...thanks!

Matt Leinert is a lot of fun to watch, a solid looking southpaw and I think between Leinert, James, Warner and Green, the Cards could be someone to keep an eye on in 2006.

The Arizona Cardinals may surprise some people this year, no doubt. As I mentioned before, I believe Denver will contend for their divsion, the AFC West. The San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs will always be in the hunt, especially KC, now that they brought new head coach Herm Edwards, and re-dedication to playing defense, to their team. For Denver the only real gaffe they made was allowing RB Mike Anderson to depart(he is now a RB for the Baltimore Ravens).

I was shocked that the Texans bypassed Reggie Bush!

It shocked a lot of people KF. The Texans publicly "courted" Reggie Bush and were in negotiations with the former USC running back's agent until about 48 hours before the NFL draft. It was about that time that there was an announcement that the Houston Texans had signed Mario Williams, a defensive pass-rusher out of NC State. The reason for this abrupt change has been the source of massive speculation, comment, and frankly, almost nauseating over-analysis in the media, especially at ESPN, among this network's small cadre of NFL TV analysts, most notably individuals like Sean Salisbury, IMO a self-aggrandizing blowhard. The reason most generally accepted in all the tripe and often redundant verbatim: the Houston Texans did not want to risk a contract "hold-out" by Reggie Bush, and the owner of the team(Bob McNair) preferred to sign someone who was looking to sign right away. Apparently Mario Williams was that individual for Houston. Make no mistake: Mario Williams is going to be a very good NFL player-he has size, speed, footwork, and great athleticim, a "can't miss" talent who should evolve into, barring injuries, an All-Pro. The Texans owner also mentioned the desire to draft for the long term stability of this franchise, believing that defense(and good defensive players) provide that stability. I cannot argue the logic there but, unfortunately for the Texans, their short-term existence has so far been miserable, as their won-loss records attest. They are also considered a boring team offensively. For these two reasons I believe they should have drafted Bush. confused

I read with interest this AM the reaction of Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb to comments made by Terrell Owens in his book T.O., regarding the Eagles QB. McNabb, in the interview, likens T.O.'s work to a "children's book" and also had praise for T.O. as an athlete, though hinting that Owens was not his favorite person in the world.
I have the utmost respect for Terrell Owens as a professional football player-he is, without a doubt, one of the best, if the best, wide receivers in the NFL. As a person, however, Owens, IMO, fails miserably, and reminds me of Bozo The Clown.

Go Eagles!
