MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports. MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

Consider this the official forum pet thread. What pet(s) do you own? Mine: a 5 year old male tabby named The Hammer, and possessing a general disposition and attitude befitting his name. I call him "Hammer" for short. If you have a pic of your pet(s) please feel free to post. |

We have one cat, Heiney Butt, he's just celebrated his seventh birthday this past September and he's spoiled rotten and I don't think I can imagine life without him. I'd love to have a dog, but being an apartment renter, we're lucky to be able to have a cat. Here's a couple of shots of him. ![]()

Very nice pics of your cat. I also rent an apartment and find cats are more "apt. friendly". :) |

Thanks very much. :D HB doesn't realize he's a cat, so that's a plus. This is a small four apartment unit and our front door faces outside in the parking area and our next door neighbors at one time had a dog and his house outside.....HB would sit up at the window in the Summer and lay there as the poor dog went totally nuts.....HB never flinched or even looked in the direction of that poor dog....never figured out if he was trying to irritate the hell out of that dog by acting uninterested or if HB is clueless that he's a cat and they can be natural enemies. HB really doesn't act like a typical cat, so I simply think he's unaware he's of the feline species! ;) |

The one picture of HB, looks like he's either voicing his displeasure at being photographed or is yawning...maybe he's doing both!

Do my younger sisters count as pets? :D Moving along...I use to own 2 dogs, 1 a German Shepherd named Duke and Chow Chow named Max. Duke was put down because of old age and Max went insane (not from rabies) so we had to get "rid" of him. I have also found out over the weekend that my alleges towards pets has gotten worse over the years....my friend's cats were almost the death of me crazy |

I've never been allergic to cats, although I have known a few people who were, and their description of their symptoms, coughing, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, sounded just like what I go through every spring during pollen season. lol |

Some mighty fine looking pets, ehre. :) Thankfully, as far as I know, I really don't suffer any allergies, save for a couple of arthritic medications, but never any serious reactions. My heart goes out to any of you that do suffer allergies, as several friends and members of my family have serious allergies and it's not pleasant what they go through. :( |

Would one of those medications include Celebrex? When you speculated, Kimi, about whether you would get another cat after "Heiney Butt" has passed it got me thinking what I would do after my own cat, The Hammer, has passed on. I would want to get another kitty, but it would depend on where I'm living at the time. If my place of residence allowed pets then I'm certain I would have another cat. :) |

Yes, Celebrex and Vioxx are two arthritis meds I can't take and I'm also considered allergic to, Zocor, for cholesterol, because of the severe muscle/joint aches and pains I have, when taking the medication.
That's probably one of the toughest aspects of apartment renting, in this area.....many absolutely forbid pets of any kind and won't even listen to someone trying to talk them into allowing a cat.

And the usual reason for this: fleas. In all of my conversations with apartment managers of those that prohibited cats and dogs this was the number one reason given. |

I can understand the need to protect not only the property, but other tenants from fleas, they can be nasty buggers. HB is feree and clear of those, thank goodness, but I understand why many places won't allow pets, it just makes it tough for people that love having them. |

I gave up using flea powder on my cat, "The Hammer", many years ago, as it didn't seem to work very well. I tried using flea "soap" to bathe my kitty but as he hates being soaked with water I nixed that method of flea control as well. The vet I take my cat to annually for a checkup told me flea collars are only effective at keeping fleas off the collars themselves ( lol ). I settled on these pills I place in my cat's food, monthly, that keep him, and my place of residence, flea free. It's called Program: http://www.entirelypets.com/progfleconfo1.html Sometimes I read about the unusual, even extraordinary, things that pets, namely cats and dogs, often do for their owners, and for others. This article is a great example of this. In New Zealand a nine year old terrier named "George" is being awarded a medal, posthumously, for defending five children from two much larger pit bulls, who had charged at the kids. This dog sacrificed himself, and in doing so, no doubt prevented serious injury, possibly even death, to one of these children. The article link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070508/od_af...B0cJz.rHBsDW7oF Dogs are often referred to as "man's best friend." This dog's heroism and sacrifice is proof of this statement. Rest In Peace, "George" :( |

I always marvel at the exploits of these pets. In this case, I was, admittedly, rendered a little misty by the sacrifice of this small dog, who tried to protect the five children. There are, I think, myself included, many people that could learn a thing or two from this dog's bravery and sacrifice. :( |

Sacrificing one's own safety for someone else always touches me. You might expect that of a parent, protecting their child or children, but for a family pet to jump in and sacrifice itself, that really touches your heart. :( |

That terrier story was a tearjerker. I remember reading about that a while back. More recently I read a story somewhere that after a woman discovered a stray malnutritioned cat under her SUV, she took it home and her dachsund gained some sort of "maternal instinct" and began to breast feed the cat back to good health. Veterinarians said it was an extremely rare occurence that a dog would do a thing like that. However it is these stories that teach us how simple things really are, and after all the differences are set aside we have an obligation as living beings to help one another. On a side note, I will try to soon post pics of our 3 dogs (babies). |

Words to live by. thumbs up I think if more people would apply this statement to their daily lives the world we live in would be a much better place to live in. On the subject of dogs I was once asked by a friend, who has a disdain for dogs and cats as pets, if I thought these animals have souls. Admittedly a long time ago I would have answered "no". Reading the stories of these animals bravery and other heroic exploits over the years changed my mind about it, and I believe these creatures do in fact have souls. |

Im sure of it as well. The biggest medium between people and animals will probably always be communication. But Im sure if we could speak to them, we would learn alot more about life as well as discovering how much like us they really are...I believe first and foremost they simply believe in leading a peaceful existence. Sometimes I think it's that lesson that humans are most in need of being taught.
