To cash in the enormous success of Gojira(1954) Toho released Godzilla Raids Again(1955) a mere six months after the original. I think it is a better than average G film, but it is not nearly as good as the original. Discuss your opinion of this film here. The good and the bad. All replies welcome.

I'm embarrassed to say, I'm not sure I've ever seen this film! Isn't this slated for a DVD release at some point, this year? Out of curiosity, what's the story behind this film and is Godzilla on the rampage against Tokyo or another beastie?

^2 friends who work for a fishing company get caught on this island, and find another Gojira fighting none other than Angilas. They return to Osaka (where basically everything takes place) and inform Dr. Yamane. He described both creatures as "fire monsters," born from fire and composed of it. What that mean, who knows. Goji and Angilas arrive in Osaka, and duke it out. Goji kills Angy, and wanders off into the ocean. Later, he is found on an island covered in ice. A military attack leave him buried, hopefully forever (but if you've seen KKvsGoji, you know he isn't)

Basically, the film sucked. Especially all the Americanizations. The dubbs are crap, the new score is OK, and even the fights are poorly filmed.

Y'know, I'm in the definite minority here when I say that I really enjoyed GRA. All my life until I reached my mid-twenties I never even knew this movie existed. A second black-and-white Godzilla film? Are you kidding me? When I finally saw it I felt like I was in another world. How did this Godzilla film escape my detection?

Anyway, about the film. I liked the dark atmosphere the most. Godzilla was scary in this film, much like his first appearance. The scene where he wades ashore amidst the fog was downright spooky. The creepy and somber score also added to the melodramatic atmosphere.

A lot of reviewers knock the characters as being to bland however I disagree where one of these characters is concerned. The character of Kobayashi is entertaining, endearing, and very likable. His irrepressable spirit and great outlook makes his final destiny all the more tragic.

Let's also not forget that this film is the first appearance of fan-favorite Angilas. Sure it doesn't end too well for our spiny friend but we all know he returns so no biggie.

A cool film in my view that I've enjoyed watching multiple times. Can't wait for the DVD to be released along with the fantastic GHIDRAH: THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER!

I honestly don't think I've ever seen this film, but was sure I'd heard this film might actually be coming to DVD.....anyone know if this is true and if there are any other interesting titles on the horizon?

From what I read on two other boards Classic Media(owned by Sony-?-) is going to release Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster(1964) and Godzilla Raids Again(1955) either during the spring or summer of this year. Other interesting releases: 1. Latitude Zero(1969) on 4-28-06 (as a box and a standard single disc release) 2. Space Amoeba(1970)(aka Yog Monster From Space-now scheduled for 2-28-06(it has been delayed due to some last minute audio tweaking of the release)

Thanks for the info! :) I am sad to see that, Space Amoeba continues to be pushed back in it's release, but if the delay improves the release, I can live with that, I suppose.

I Love it! I think it's one of the better movies in the series. It also has one of my favorite female characters!

^Hidemi! She was a real cutie. Too bad she never got together with her true love, Kobayashi.

In addition to Space Amoeba being pushed back to 2-28-06, Garuda, another MediaBlasters release(a Thai feature about a giant Gryphon-like monster), has also been postponed for release until 2-28-06. FYI. :)

That might be a good idea. I can tell you I will NOT be pounding pavement looking for Space Amoeba on 2-28. I have been disappointed too many times. I will order it online(DeepDiscountDVD or Amazon.com) :)
