Hey, don't forget that Classic Media also plans to release the original Japanese version of GOJIRA this summer. Add that to you DVD "must buy" list!

I will NOT be pounding pavement looking for Space Amoeba on 2-28.

I know how you feel. I live in the sticks and with the only Sam Goody in the area shutting down, that was my last chance to MAYBE locate a coppy, locally. Sam Goody was always hit and miss with finding the kinds of releases I wanted and their prices were always high, but still, it was kind of nice to sometimes find the titles I wanted. Looks like the majority of my DVD shopping for genre titles will have to be made online.

Latest info circulating on Godzilla Raids Again(1955) Classic Media release date is (possibly) September of this year but I will not post this in the "DVD Release Updates) unless(or until) it is confirmed. :)

How did this Godzilla film escape my detection?
Probably because this film rarely makes television appearances and also because it has never had an official Reg 1 DVD release.

I liked the dark atmosphere the most.  Godzilla was scary in this film, much like his first appearance.  The scene where he wades ashore amidst the fog was downright spooky.  The creepy and somber score also added to the melodramatic atmosphere.
So did I. The music sounded very dreary, surprisingly fitting for this grim film.

Let's also not forget that this film is the first appearance of fan-favorite Angilas.  Sure it doesn't end too well for our spiny friend but we all know he returns so no biggie.

Indeed. Two of the more appealing aspects of this movie were Godzilla's "aura" in this movie, and the introduction of Angilas, the second kaiju to hit the big screen for Toho(after Godzilla of course). I thought the rendering of Angilas was very good- hard-charging, fearless, heavily armored monster, who gave Godzilla a good fight. :)

^Hidemi!  She was a real cutie.  Too bad she never got together with her true love, Kobayashi.

Man you've got a good memory for the names of the characters in these films. My congratulations to you sir. Well done. :)

I always try to catch (and remember) the central characters' names in all the movies I watch. It's a lot harder to do with Japanese films however. ;)

I like the name Hidemi. I think it's pretty.

There seem to be a lot of pretty women in these classic Toho Godzilla and kaiju films, and I for one am not complaining. Mr Green

Indeed. So do I. Pictured: one of my favorite Toho kaiju film stars and "petites", former swimsuit model turned actress Yumiko Shaku. who is, IMO, one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen tongue-1

What movie(s) was she in?

Godzilla X Mechagodzilla(2002), Godzilla Tokyo SOS(2003)-in the latter, she has a few brief scenes, and in the former, she is the "star"

Yumiko Shaku is also in the drama/fantasy Sky High and in The Princess Blade(released by ADV films-it is a sword and martial arts film)

thumbs up

I still can't place her. The actresses in all of Tezuka's G-flicks blend together.

If you own Godzilla X Mechagodzilla(2002) she plays Akane Yoshiro, the principal "star" of this film.

Really looking forward to getting GRA on DVD when the Godzilla box set arrives. I know these movies will be dual-language. Does this mean we'll be getting Gigantis, The Fire Monster as well? Banana Oil!
